  1. Inspect the brake assembly...any debris? Are the rotors wearing evenly or are they warped?

pads and discs are new so cant see these being the problem.

loren i dont know when the fluid was changed last i think i will do it is it a big job? hard ? should i get it done or attempt it myself is there any diy article?

could the problem be the abs sensor ? where is it located

    cheers

  2. My wife absolutely LOVES my 2002 6-spd C2 coupe. She needs some surgery on her left foot, so has only driven it once. We drive everywhere in it unless we need the cargo space of one of our SUV's. She has seen from Day One (we have been married 25 years) how important my rides are to me. At first she resisted my buying this car (I've had it 10 months), but then she recalled that her mom refused to let her dad buy his own plane, and it was a real downer for him. He already knew how to fly, and had the bucks.

Having the right wife is THE ticket! It also might help if the car is reasonably comfortable and dependable (no unseemly breakdowns, no loud mufflers, or distortion-riden sound system, good air conditioning).

Might be worth mentioning that my previous fun machine was a motorcycle, which was bought with the anticipation of my wife learning to ride, or at least becoming a passenger on weekend rides. She got cold feet and neither happened. She supported the idea of my riding, but was in silent fear every time I rode. The 911 is our 4-wheel motorcycle, one we both enjoy in town and on the country roads in Texas.

is that it 12 replies --- shame on you all you porsche owners lol

  3. hi there all

    i have a 911 c4 couple i love it its fantastic!

every car i have owned has been a porsche i love them, however my daft mrs dosnt understand what a porsche 911

is all about. ive told her its all about power, handling, the sexy lines, status symbol and most of all the heritage.

can you guys who know the score back me up and i will show her this thread later .

    cheers !!!!! B)

  4. Yes, Bilstein are gas shocks. If they leak or fail they need to be replaced.

Cold weather definitely will affect shock rebound and performance.

Your car is 10 years old this so further inspection of the shocks (for leaks, or deformed mounts/bushes) should be done.

cheers loren hoped you would pick up on this

    quick question

the shocks were only fitted to the car brand new around 12 months ago. i have just found the invoice.

so cant see age being the issue.

will the cold have caused damage to the shocks or will they just preform bad because of the cold and be ok again when the weather gets better?

how will the cold effect them?

are they easily replaced if i need a new shock or is it a big job ?

  5. hi there was wondering if anyone can shine a light here

    i have a 2000 c4 coupe

wen i bought it had yellow upgraded bilstien shocks on the rear.... are they gas ? do they need regassing? can it be done?

recently i have heard a knocking from the rear right hand side when going over bumps in the road

i think the damping may have gone or could it be bushes ? i have no idea when i push down on the rear end there seams to be still some damping on the rebound.

it has been -10 c temp this week with snow and ice - could this be the cause of the problem?

thanks for all the help in advance guys :renntech: :renntech: :renntech:

  6. My MY02 Targa was equipped with the BOSE system with the standard CD220 Becker head unit. The sound was pretty dreadful with distorted/overwhelming bass....even with the bass tone control set at a minimum position.

I replaced the Becker head unit with a Pioneer AVIC-Z3 nav system and magically the audio improved immeasureably.

I would second bgwvdave's suggestion that you try to find a shop where you can selectively exchange "up-speaker" components. Your new speaker set-up probably just exacerbates the poor quality of the Becker head unit. I would definately start with the head unit..."garbage in = garbage out".

    Bill

is my amp built into the headunit then or is it else where

do i just chage the head unit or the amp or both ?

  7. A MY2000 would not have BOSE at it came out in MY2002. MOST is fiber optic wiring that cam out in MY2003.

Your amp (if you have one) should be in the front trunk on the right side next to the spare tire.

Check your option codes (on the sticker under the front hood). If it does not say M490 or M680 then you do not have an amp.

    cheers loren

reason i ask is because i have changed all the speakers in the car to alpine speakers and have taken out the tuned ports in the doors and have done the MDF-DYNAMAT baffles mod for the doors with 16cm alpines aswell

and to be honest it sounds worse than it did before!!!!

i cant turn the base up past -1 or it all distorts and sounds like something you would find in an old van!

i am thinking that the next step is to change the amp to get a better sound what do you recon ?

  8. Not sure what year you have, what stereo system, Cabrio or coupe? At any rate I have attached the diagram that should apply to your amp location. Should be in the bonnet (trunk in front)

just behind where the spare tire is located and behind a metal shield.

You should do a search on this site as lots of folks have had lots of discussions about preferences, challenges, and issues with the stereo systems. If you have the MOST set up or BOSE it will be

even more complicated. Many choose to just replace all components due to the odd 6 channel configuration.

Good luck, and remember to do a search here as there is already lots of info.

    DC

    mine is a 2000 coupe

it has 2 speakers in the front doors and a cdr22 and 2 speakers on the dash and 2 in the rear quarters

i def no it isnt a bose system what is a MOST system

  9. As far as I know, you cannot. The reason is that Porsche has already configured the alarm to beep once in certain circumstances - the one described above (where something is left open - in my case I have heard it when I haven't fully closed the front trunk, etc.), and the other situation I'm aware of is when you intentionally disarm the interior motion sensors. In order to intentionally disarm the interior motion sensors, you have to double-click the alarm (hold...lift.hold...) or alternatively using the key in the door, turn...center.turn.... This still sets the alarm for the doors, but inactivates the interior motion sensors, and the Porsche alarm provides you with confirmation of this by honking the horn once (at least on a 1999). I also owned a 1999 Boxster, and it exhibited exactly the same behavior. I had to begin using this feature on our Boxster because the alarm would go off in the middle of the night once every couple weeks. It really pissed off the neighbors. Finally, inactivating the interior motion sensor took care of that problem.

    oh

also you sound as though you would know how do you set it so the doors automaticly lock wen you set off driving?

  10. hi just wondering if anyone knows how or if it is possible or not to make 996 standard alarm bleep when it is locked or unlocked.

    i love that touch :renntech:

Nope...you can rig it to sound, but that just means one of the sensors is tripped...some folks will open the center console to do this.

that will make a horn type sound wont it? and will it do it when the car is opened?

also if it is left open for some time will it not set the alarm off?

  11. I have 1997 993TT. In 4th gear and above with the peddle to the floor at 4K RPM the turbo spools up to .8 bar, there is a sudden sputter and hesitation at 4,200 RPM. Some poppiong can be heard from the rear and the RPM will not climb any higher untill I let off the accelorator. There was a fault in the mass air meter, it was relaced; no help. New, stronger pop off valves were installed, no help. It was discovered the previous owner installed a V-Chip. An authorized V-Chip rep reconfigured the fuel-air mixture and the turbo settings. This helped for a short time. However, after letting the car sit in the garage for a couple months the problem resumed and to a greater degree. After throwing good money after bad, the porsche dealer could not correct the problem. There is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator in the car. The V-Chip representative does not think it is a fuel problem due to the O2 readings. Could this be a wastegate issue? I do not have access to a 4x4 dyno to fully diagnose. Does anyone have any suggestions?

have you checked the coils / plugs?

  12. ok guys i have a big problem

today i tryed to remove my headlight and noticed that the bolt in the little hole you put the tool in isnt there

    what do i do now?

my driver side has it but not the passanger?

is there any other way to get it out?????//

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

make sure you are have taken the right plug out as there are two and can be easily mistaken the one you need is the thick one that stands out.

failing that you will need to remove your wheel and wheel arch liner and manually relese the light

ok so if i remove the wheel and liner how do i get the light out just push it forward? or...????????????????

no there is a bracket that needs relesing 1st try to do it with pliers or a screwdriver if you take your other headlight out you will be able to get an idea of what you are dealing with and best way to relese it
