Okay, i've been having this occur for the past year and wasn't sure what was going on. But I"ve isolated the noise. Here is the run down. Lets say i'm at a light resting on a slight hill. Foot on the brake. If I lift off the brake while depressing the clutch and engaging first gear that is when the clunk noise occurs. It happens when the car is in slight forward movement from a braked stop to gear. The noise does not occur on a stand still situation. IE, foot never leaving the brake, or a level surface while shifting into first. Any thoughts on the culprit?

i have a similar issue, replaced one drop link and will do the otherside as soon as the snow melts around my area. Hope that solves the clunk noise.

not terriblly hard to diy with the writeups found here. Plus you could get yours rebuilt for half the price they are quoting. Or even one from Oklahoma Foreign salvage yard for 100 bucks. but yeah, if you are going by official numbers 300 bucks for labor may be a bit high, but not far off.

well, I wouldn't say a lot of the problems with the 996 are user abuse. Since I've own mine I've been replacing components left and right. I've never worked on repairing a car so much in my entire life. Now, that said I enjoy the work. The Mods and people on this forum provide a wealth of information to perform just about any service. But in the end I wouldn't have expected so many components to go south. The service history on my car before I got it was extensive so it's been a constant repair since birth so to speak:)

I think my indy charged me 400 bucks. You can do it yourself with the diy directions on this site, I would have but my waterpump blew as I was driving down the highway and had to get to safety before I damaged the engine. So while it was at the shop they replaced the (first) cracked coolant tank as well.

+1 on Dharn55's comments. I have the same car as you and my oil pressure is always around 5 on cold start, then after fully warmed it idles just below 2.

Hey Kristian, can you post a pic or more details of that plumbing joint and how you used it?

i don't know, but my car is loud at highway speeds for sure. I flushed the front differential and gear box and the noise remains. As an asside I can put it in neutral at speeds and the noise doesn't change, so i'm fairly sure it's not my tranny.

this is probably not the same problem, but I thought I would share it anyway. I had a very similar sound occuring in the same conditions. Turns out that side's front head light was out also because the vertical socket housing had broken at it's base, letting the light become unplugged and the cord and broken plastic to "bounce around" at high speeds and making the noise.

when my engine mounts started failing i too had one side of my exhaust hang lower. Replaced and they evened up.

no, one because the pressure of the coolant helped "push" out any little piece of plastic that broke off in the hose...two, i only lost a little bit of coolant and added some distilled water to make up for the 1/4 cup or so that i lost. But if you need to do what you see fit in terms of loss during break and repair and messiness of the black plastic nozzle removal.

BTW, you will need some long needle nose pliers to get the leveage to bend that factory hose clamp off. Also be careful in picking out the old deterioted black plastic nipple from the hose.

look at the price. Look at the sellers name and item location then add it up to, ah...nah. You are better off with proven tech that will last not tinfoil. jmo

yeah, insurance is going to pay a portion...but i get to write the check for the first 500 bucks:( All in all it was 1200 dollar repair. I absolutely hate paying money for repairs that are cosmetic. But what can you do. Little bstrds are building a lot of negative karma pulling this crap. I understand flaming poop bags and toliet paper stunts, but taking a key down the side of a mans ride...wow.

vandalism. Anyone had good results from repairing someone who took a key to the 3 panels on one side of your car!?!? Are those kits worth it? Or should I just pony up the 500 deductable and get the shop to do it? Thoughts?

what is the front joint boot? I changed my diffs fluid just a few weeks back and didn't have to do anything regarding joints or boots.

or you can spray paint the old ones with the wurth silver power coat paint.
