  1. more info...from Tirerack.com this time... they tell me they can do a set of [presumably "new"] Mille Miglia "Cup 3" wheels (whatever those are?) with the same Dunlop winter tires mounted for $1895 + about $80 shipping in my case. now, the problem is that, while Tirerack does quote a 10x18" rear wheel, they claim 52mm is the correct offset, while the alleged official oem porsche rear wheel, for this application, has [according to Wheel Enhancements] a 47mm offset. so, they can't both be right. someone is wrong i think and i'm thinking it's unlikely porsche would provide the wrong-sized wheel for their own car...unless Wheel Enhacements just got their facts screwed around. i do like the sound of $1895 a whole lot better than $3,000.....but not if it's the wrong size rear wheel for the application.
  2. have '02 C4S coupe, in same situation as you...here is what i have learned... Wheel Ehancements (in so cal) can set me up with used front wheels + new rear wheels (more on this later) + some Dunlop winter tires for about $3,000 i would prefer to save some bux and go with used rear wheels also, but you need an oddball rear wheel to drop down to 10" width (oem rear is 11" width) with the correct offset so that you can fit a winter tire. winter tires are not available in 295/30-18, must go with 265/35-18 and therefore need a slightly skinnier rear wheel, but it's a different offset than the normal C2 10x18" rear wheels (i believe). the reason the rear wheel is "oddball" is because it's a special offset (if i'm understanding things correctly), presumably to properly fill out the rear wheel well area. in other words, if you simply used a standard C2 10x18" rear wheel i'm guessing it would leave a funny look to the rear of a C4S car. therefore, you probably have to go "new" for the odd sized rear wheel in order to get them (or at least this is what i was told by Wheel Enhancements). can also get a solution from Tirerack.com but i have not yet gotten a quote from them.
  3. for those who deal with the "big leather" options (leather dash, leather vent louvers, leather EVERYTHING) in high sun geographies, is there a well-known, widely accepted, common sense procedure for making all these crazy leather surfaces survive? bought a pre-owned C4S, has leather freakin' everywhere in the cockpit and i'm a newbie in p-car "big leather" land :) i know the no-brainer stuff like park with a sun shield in the wind shield, but i figure, at minimum, i should apply some sort of annual leather protectant treatment or something, preferably with some sort of UV blocker. is it worth bending over at the porsche dealer parts counter for some magic snake oil....or are there other well known, established, time-tested alternatives? thanx!!
  4. did all C4S's ('02 is specific year of interest to me) get the 3.6L motor? or did some get the older 3.4L? was '02 first year for the C4S? any known 1st-year bugs with it? base wheels are the solid-spokes, right? (not hollow spoke like the turbo) any known weak points on a C4S? (other than the usual M96 issues like RMS, porous castings, etc). am thinking of buying a CPO-warranteed C4S...anything specific i should watch out for? hidden exclusions on CPO warranties? seems like it just extends the basic factory bumper-bumper warranty to 6yr/100k miles (vs. basic factory 4yr/50k). for grins.....anyone have any thoughts on how implausible / impossible it would be to convert a C4S over to be a turbo? not planning to do this but the thought struck me as an interesting idea if i were to keep this car long enough to kill the M96 motor. thank you to all for any feedback on these questions! Kirk
  5. on stock wheels? traversing 3 foot snow drifts is not envisioned but something other than a "summer only" tire seems in order to drive a C4S year round, no? anyhow, i didn't find any all-season tires in 295/30-18 at tirerack.com. just wondering what most people do. i'm not terribly interested in full-on "snow" tires (no Hakapilitas or Nokias), just something with a rubber compound that doesn't go rock hard (i.e. no grip) when temps drop below freezing. thanx for any feedback. i searched messages but didn't come up with anything on this.
