  1. Two questions: 1. Which parts and tools would be different for a 997-1 (3.8 litre motor)? 2. Where can I obtain a Maintenance Schedule? The stack of manuals that came with my 2nd-hand '05 C2S coupe didn't include one. Thanks.
  2. I think most Porsche drivers find it easier to roll their right foot, with the left side on the brake, and right side on the accelerator. I'm getting used to the ball-pinky-toe technique, and I can rest my heel on the floor during the process (the advantage of big feet!). Like 70Sixter, control of the throttle input is still a bit ragged, but I'm getting better at it. And it's lotsa fun too!

  4. Sounds just like mine, and it's got 24K. I'm the car's second owner, and I bought a four-year extended warranty. The original factory warranty will be up around Feb/Mar next year. As I said in my first post, watch this space. In the mean time, I'm loving the car and immensely enjoying its performance.
  5. It's not attached to a fob; I keep it as a spare should I do something stupid like misplace my regular keys or somehow lock them in the car--like I said: something (really) stupid. I don't keep it in my wallet for fear of bending it (I sit on my wallet), so it goes into the pants pocket.
  6. Hasn't happened yet, but it did with my cell phone. What WOULD happen if I accidentally laundered (I keep it in the little coin pocket of my Levi's) the plastic pocket key? I just paid $280 (!!!) for a new one, and I'd rather put the money toward a few tankfuls of gas.
  7. I'm trying to find a solution where I can continue to rest my heel on the floor at the base of the accelerator while rolling or rotating my foot while braking. It seems to require lots more practice than the more intuitive (to me) Alfas and old Bimmers I've owned. Heck, even in my old Mazda 626 and Honda Civic, the operation was easier in the traditional manner. Maybe I just have to get used to the Porsche method. That means lotsa practice, and THAT means I get to drive my car even more!

I love my recently acquired '05 C2S coupe, but I'm still having a little trouble adapting to the pedals for heel-and-toe double-clutch downshifting, and I'd rather not install aftermarket pedals. Is the primary method toe-heel, where the toe pokes the accelerator, or is a simple rocking motion of the right foot preferred? I have a size 13E foot, but that doesn't seem to hinder me; it's just that when I'm applying the brake, I twist my foot for the heel to tap the gas in the traditional manner, but more often than not, I miss the pedal altogether. Any tips or suggestions will be helpful. Thanks in advance. Rick

  10. What can I expect to happen if and when the intermediate shaft lets go? Will it go BANG-clatter-clatter, or will the motor just die? I have a 2005 C2S Coupe with 6-speed and about 24K miles with no oil leaks. Also bought a four-year extended warranty that'll kick in around Feb/Mar 2009.

  12. Looks like a lotta Chicken-Little-sky-is-falling talk to me. I noticed in other forums, e.g. Roadfly.com, that the threads on this topic ended about the middle of last year. I'll keep a special watch for any RMS leaks in my inspections though.
  13. I'm seriously contemplating buying a used 997 around the middle of next year. Yesterday, I stopped by a local and reputable independent Porsche shop of long standing and asked one of the shop's owners if he services 996's and 997's. He said yes, "up to a point" then warned me to get a thorough inspection and title check on any prospective purchase, because those models had engines "blow up" from what he felt was an internal defect. He also advised me to check the internet regarding this matter, and I was disheartened--devastated really, that there are indeed reports of such catastrophic engine failures. My question is, do these failures involve mostly 996's and are they related to the RMS problems? Also, are there any steps beyond a comprehensive inspection, that can be taken to minimize the chances of one of these failures occuring? Since I'm brand new to this forum and am not (yet) even a Porsche owner, I'll accept links to other topics within this forum that may answer my questions. Thanks in advance.
