  1. CIS or Mechanical? Mechanical (Bosch) My CIS had a similar problem, but it turned out to be a faulty "pop-off" valve vs. "throttle valve". Have you looked over at Rennlist.com at their forums? Great source of info?

I think that one would be the oil level gauge, but its best to check the oil visually by starting the vehicle on a level ground, get it up to temprature ideling and then extract the dip stick. there is a book on the 993 (the essential guide I think) that details all this stuff, much better than the owners manual (which I got by ordering from my local porsche centre) Okay, I know this post is old so don't know if still relevant. However, if you read your manual, you will notice that it says your should never, ever have your car sitting at idle to bring it up to temperature. So, I agree that the car needs to be at temperature for the correct oil reading, but getting it up to temperature should be done by driving vs. idling. Just my opinion.
