  1. Thank you all for your replies, support and advice! Especially the names of people in Atlanta! Gregory.
  2. I need some help/advice. I sold my 996 C-4 Cab and bought the 997 Turbo Cab, with special factory option – no holds barred – just the way I wanted it back in late 2007! When it was delivered, it was extraordinarily rewarding! My girl had the perfect sentence: “It’s the birth of your child---childhood dreams that is!” 2 drives and 82 miles later there’s a puddle of oil on the floor in the garage. It goes back to the dealer (Ray Catena Porsche – Edison, NJ). After 10 days in the shop, with daily conversations starting as a mild repair, by end of 10 days, they’re telling me they’ve done all they can do and it still leaks. They’ve just about rebuilt the whole engine and replaced just about every seal, gasket, etc possible to no avail and I have discovered it’s a “porous block” and need engine replacement. It seems the Service Technicians haven’t seen this problem since 2001. I don’t want a replacement engine. I want a replacement car – exactly as I ordered it. Something I’ll hold onto for years to come as the one thing I’ve given to myself without compromise. However … and here’s where I need your help … I am told that full “auto replacement” procedure takes miles of red-tape, approvals, etc and “if” someone says “yes” … it’ll be several more months for the factory get custom orders like that into the system at this time of year. That sounds like a bunch of ‘donkey dust’!!!! I can’t believe Porsche wouldn’t put someone who has a failure of this magnitude into THIS MONTHS production run. If the sales department is correct, I wouldn’t see a replacement car until August – which means one month later it’s a year old – no way! This also sound like a bunch of ‘already paid dealers’ not knowing who and how to get the right buttons pushed for an immediate, this-month-build solution. So … who’s got contacts and phone #’s for a solution. Or advice on who/what to do for myself. Please help. Thank you in advance for your help. Feel free to contact me directly as I’m sure I need to move swiftly on this: Gregory Saint-James Vigeant gregory@msihq.com
  3. Even the original silver isn't painted all the way in. I've got 18" light weight carrera wheels on my 986. I was surprised when I went to wax the inner part of the wheel and discovered that it's plain gray paint, and not the nice silver metallic with clear coat, that the outer part of the wheel is painted with. Not as noticeable because it's close, but it would be a lot nicer if the whole thing were painted the same as the outer face. Seems the Turbo Rims are painted all the way through. I've spent some time checking this out before I decided to PAY for this option. Alas ... it's only done on STOCK FACTORY RIMS and not on any 'paint-to-match' optioned rims. I agree with you on older and (dare I say) lesser Porsches as my current 02 C-4 Cab is weak on paint deep inside the inner rim barrel. After posting on other sites it seems I'm going with stock rims and saving the money for either a private paint company to powder-coat them the way I want, or just go with aftermarket rims for a completely different look.
  4. I’m upgrading from an 02, C-4 Cab (currently 4 sale), to a custom order 08 Turbo Cab with a build date in late February. Among other things, I’ve ordered every external part “Paint To Match” (Black - except hdlght wshr), including the wheels. Last Saturday, I happened to see another car optioned with the painted wheel and I was appalled!!! They only paint the face - NOT the entire inner barrel. The stock rims are painted fascia AND the inner barrel, but if you order the rim painted to match, the inner barrel stays primer gray!?! Does anyone know if there is a code to have the WHOLE rim painted to match? Am I missing something? Is the dealership missing something? If this is the only way it comes, I’m cancelling the “Paint To Match” on the rims and will order something else. NOTE: The Dealer is Ray Catena in Edison, NJ – I’m only mentioning this for reference as I’ve checked with people I know at Paul Miller and they don’t have an answer either. Thank you for any advice and/or suggestions. Gregory
