  1. Hello, i have a 1997 993 Twin turbo; I'm planning to replace the servo pump and the belt as they are worn out. I have a major leak coming from the pump body. On the turbo, the servo pump feeds the clutch and steering system. Does anybody know the easiest way to do it? i have the technical schema of the unit, but i can't really figure out if i need to drop the engine or not to do the replacement. i didn't find any helpful information in the workshop manual. If anybody is familiar with this repair please share your experience! Thank you Best servo pump.pdf
  2. Hello everybody, i have a twin turbo with few work to perform on. i have to replace the front wishbones bushes (i bought the polyurethane powerflex ones)and replace the front differential shaft seals. The front wishbones removal seems pretty straight forward, however, the front drive shafts removal looks complicated. Does anybody know the easiest way to do it? thanks Cedric
  3. Hello there, to all 993 twin turbo owners: is it normal to get 9.5MPG in city? I drive "normally"; ok with few drag races here and there but i mostly drive smoothly. I have the same MPG than with my Escalade that weights twice more Let me know Thanks
  4. the car is a 1996 carrera convertible with manual transmission. The car has the OBD2 diagnostic system. the steering wheel is on the left(it's an american model) 993 618 159 02 anti drive off (driveblock system) unit 315mhz 928 618 260 03 alarm system Everything is stock; no aftermarket alarm; the DME is original the airbag system is present and all stock; no error code i only have one remote key; hope this is not the problem when the ignition is switched on, the car doesn't crank at all, and the dme relay doesn't work; exactly like when the driveblock system works after 1 min off with doors left open. i was before able to start the car half the time; but now it seems to have totally die. Regarding the emergency log in code for the drive block system, i'm not familiar with this. Is this a code you can enter via the PST2?
  5. Hello there, I need all your help before I go crackers my 993 do not start anymore. Before that, the car started erraticaly, sometimes yes, sometimes no. The car doesn't crank, the DME relay doesn't click, only relays kl 15 and kl X work when i turn the key( i don't know what is their function). As the DME relay doesn't work, the fuel pump doesn't start. The dashboard lights up normally on key positions 1 and 2. Battery is good of course. The remote key / alarm seems to work correctly. First thing i did was to plug my PST2 in the diagnostic socket to pull out some eventual error codes. By the way, I read somewhere that if the driveblock system works, the car cannot be scanned; do you know if it's true? However, i went through the car with the PST2 but the diagnostic of the DME end Alarm units / immobiliser came free of any fault code. After that, i changed the DME relay; didn't changed anything I tested the pins from the DME relay socket, and i found out that no signal shows up when the key is turn on position 2(ignition). I took appart the ignition switch and tested it; the unit worked fine. I had for that to dismantle half the car (you need to take appart the knee protection trim ; what a pita). I put off the seats and had a look on the alarm unit on the passenger side and the driveblock on the driver side, i checked the connections and interior circuits without any clue of damage. I'm now waiting for next week to be able to switch the driveblock and alarm units from another 993 to see if it would come from there. I'm for now really thinking about a Driveblock / alarm unit failure. If this doesn't change anything, i wouldn't know what to do next... What do you think? Any idea or suggestion is welcome!
  6. just had an interesting diagnostic.. the Dual mass flywheel could be faulty and give erratic information to the sender. This could explain the misfire and the difficult starts.. i just wonder how to make sure. it's a pretty serious repair, and i have to make sure it's the real cause. i would have to remove the engine. i should maybe first have a look on the flywheel position sender? there should be one or two flywheel sensors that send signals to the dme. if there would be a real problem with the dual mass flywheel, i should probably have a fault code from the dme? please let me know if there is a reliable way to diagnose this. Cedric
  7. yetserday, as i took the car for a ride, the motor was almost running normally at idle. it was too good to be true, this car drives me crazy. it was very difficult this morning to start the engine; then the car ran rough as always and even stalled at cold. thought first that my DME relay was dead, but i exchanged it with another one and was the same thing. When hot it was a little bit easier (maybe ) to start. it must be a related problem. regarding the wiring harness, there was no recall about that harness on that car; i checked with the vin in a Porsche center. there are a lot of wiring harness, so did you mean the engine harness or the DME harness? ok first, i have to tell that the Durametric device i use on that car is a real crap. Slow and erratical communication, and finally failed almost all the time. Gives wrong informations. i don't know if i had a bad one, anyway, i'm done with durametric. only worked on few cars before dying. I'm about to take back an original PST2, and at least it will be a real reliable professional tool. So, i took it to a guy i know in the city, with the bosch hammer, he found out that my "temperature sensor was dead"; actually the one i replaced. Plugged or unplugged the sensor gived nothing. So it can be the sensor itself, the DME wiring harness, or the DME itself. I will test it tomorrow with a multimeter and see if i got something in the wiring harness. I hope i won't have to change the DME wiring harness because it's a pretty expensive part; it connects the 2 knock sensors, temperature sensor no.2, and the speedometer sensor. i don't know if it explains everything, but anyway i have to fix it. the porsche mechanic told me it's a known problem on 993s. we'll see tomorrow. Cheers
  8. Hey everybody, i look for the shop an oldschool bosch KTS 300 "hammer", with the card module covering 993s. I don't need an expensive PST2 or piwis, as i only work on 911 964 and 993. By the way, if anybody knows how to create a copy of the card module, it would be great. I was thinking about buying an empty kts 300 device and loading a card module copy in. I know a guy who has one with the correct program, and i could copy his software. I don't know which kind of card it is. So guys if you have info about that KTS. Let me know, i think a lot of people here would like to do the same. Cheers Cedric Paris, France
  9. Hi everybody, i'd like guys to have your opinion about a little dilema. I'm about to buy otherwise a 993 carrera S or a Carrera 4S and I don't know which one to choose. If know exactly the technical specs of those two models, but i don't know which one is the most desirable and collectible. It would be more a collector, than a real driver, because i already have an upgraded C2 for the track. I'd like to buy of course the car with best residual value in case i would have later to sell it to upgrade to a Twin Turbo. The production figures show that the carrera S was produced at 3714 units and the carrera 4S at 6948 units; so the carrera S should be more valuable than the 4S? Here are the offers i have, both cars coming in same condition with same mileage and for the same price: 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera S Black on Black 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S White on Black Does anybody have an opinion about that? cheers
  10. well, as expected, i changed the temperature sensor, ... and nothing changed. By the way, for those who never did it, it's a real nightmare to screw in. So, i turned my attention on another hitch i noticed when the car runs; When the car is running, i can ear the intake system blowing air in an unusual way, somewhere in the distributor circuit. I think there is a leak somewhere as i tested it with a spray. It appears that the intake manifold seals let the air go through, so i will replace them all tomorrow, as it has a heavy impact on the engine idle. Under the intake distributor, i found an air pump with ducts, and i think this one leaks to. I will check it all, change the seals, and try to thighten everything better. This air leak has to be fixed. By the way, it's a real mess of ducts, and wires everywhere on the intake distributor, and removing that stuff was a pain in the ***; i expect a great deal of pain when i will have to put it back. Anyway, i will try to fix the air system, then, if it's not that i will try the fuel system regulator, then maybe ignition, and if it's still not working i think about hanging myself :cursing: i will check the ignition distributor by the way, but i think i should better fix that air problem first. so if you guys can help, please let me know
  11. Hi there everybody, i have an mechanical problem with my 993; it's a 1996 carrera 2; i'd like guys to have your opinion about it. When i start the engine, the motors runs well untill it gets hot like 5 or 10 minuts later. Then it runs really rough, not irregularly, but very heavily and loud, like an old diesel. Acceleration is really poor, but motors seems to runs better at high regime. It looks like if the mixture would be too lean or too poor and the motor "coughs". There is no noticable smoke or leak. When scanned for fault codes, i had 2 strange codes that showed up: - upstream oxygen sensor cylinder 1-3 - fuel pump relay / final stage after that i changed, the DME relay, and the four oxygen sensors, but nothing changed at all, and i even still have the same oxygen sensor error code taht came back. It could be so many things that i don't really know where to start; it could be a fuel delivery problem, a defective EGR valve, fuel pump, fuel regulator, temperature sensor, vaccum leak, worn out valve,...? i asked yesterday to a Porsche mechanic, and he told me first to change the temperature sensor, which is a very well know problem on 964's and 993's. I will replace it tomorrow and see what happens; but i don't really feel optimistic about that. If you guys have an idea about that, please let me know, that could be really helpfull. thanks Cheers Cedric
