  1. Update to my previous post. 1999 C2 I rolled over 120k miles and was hearing a slight vibration. Not long after I got a CEL with misfires so I shut the car down and had flat bedded to local shop I use. Turns out the timing chain appears to have broken probably due to IMS issue. Metal shavings were in the oil pickup so chances are high the piston hit a valve or similar occurred. Getting engine rebuilt to the tune of around $8500 planning on putting another 120k miles on the rebuild.
  2. Quick update. Have 114,000 miles on my 1999 C2 996 3.4L with no major issues except oil/air and water pump.
  3. Yesterday while getting on the highway a guy stopped short for no reason on the on-ramp and I ran up under his truck. Can anyone recommend a good body shop in LA? Also, can anyone tell me how to maybe reattach the side of front bumper that popped loose in interim? (see picture) Thanks!
  4. No still have the stock stereo. I searched prior to posting but then searched more and I think its more likely the worn bushings mentioned in this post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1728 The only odd thing is it does it when the car is parked. So if it is worn bushings perhaps my car is now an earthquake detector. :P
  5. My 1999 C2 is up to 99,380 miles on it. Last time I took it to shop he alerted me to small RMS leak. Going to get that done same time replace original clutch/flywheel soon. Other than that no complaints and runs great! Last year I put 20k miles on the car and only had to change the gas cap to fix CEL, change oil, and replace front brakes. Can't complain about dependability for sure.
  6. I have a 1999 C2 and a few weeks ago the horn went off and i had to pull on rubber piece to get it to stop. I assumed it got too hot in the car and that caused it. But yesterday it happened twice and once this morning. Has anyone had this issue before? If so is it a short or issue with the horn itself? Thanks!

  8. Thanks for the help! Glad it is not too painful a purchase. :clapping:
  9. I have been searching high and low to find the part number and name of the rubber that is under the rear wing on my 996. It is accordion like and I was told by my girlfriend when she was driving behind me that something was flapping about. So I raised the wing to discover that the rubber had degraded and is ripped at some parts. I want to replace it but can't seem to find it on the various parts sites I use. Thanks!
  10. It all comes down to octane and the additives they use. It all is pumped through same pipelines to different parts of the country. Each company just buys time on the line. So if you feel Shell has the best additives then buy Shell. In my experience Shell and Chevron seem to work best in my car. I have had CEL come on in past from no-name places. Plus hard to tell if octane they say is really what it is. Mainly comes down to how reputable the chain is to me.
  11. I have a 1999 996 C2 Coupe which has developed a bit of shake around 70+Mph. Once I get a bit faster the shake is bad enough to where I have to back off throttle. Can someone recommend a good place to check my alignment/wheel balance in LA area. I am in Southbay area but will travel for a place someone has had good experience with. I plan on going to a track day soon and want to be sure the car will not have issues at high speeds as well. Thanks for any help in advance!
  12. I just got back from a run to Las Vegas via Death Valley from LA in my 1999 C2 996. Had no issues and the 1000+ miles I put on car that went by effortlessly. I am 6'5" tall and no discomfort from the seats or seating position. My girlfriend is 6' tall and she was surprised as to how comfortable it was being a passenger as well. Although I am thankful I am not an inch taller or else my knee might get in the way when using clutch. ;) Some Trip Pictures I would recommend to anyone going to Las Vegas from LA to take the extra day and go through Death Valley. It is a beautiful place and great roads both long straights and twisty mountain roads. Just avoid June-September since the average temps then are 100+ F.
  13. I have a 1999 996 C2 and the right headlight is dim but not out when headlights are on. It is the same sort of dim as when you have the parking light on or turn off ignition with lights still on. My question is since it is still dim and not out would it be the actual bulb that is the issue or perhaps the headlight switch or a connection? A bulb is only $12 or so and I found howto which covers replacing the bulb (http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/headlamp/) would this be a good first step to troubleshoot it? Thanks!
