  1. Hi there,

I just had my 2000 996 convertible in to a reputable shop looking for the source of a loud bearing kind of noise coming out of the back drivers side of the car.

After having it for a week and a $2500.00 bill to replace the dual mass flywheel, I just picked it up.... and the noise is still there - as loud as ever!

I'm just waiting for a rental car in his lobby, and he tells me he will have to take it apart again and keep looking....

Please - any suggestions on what this might be would be completely appreciated!

    Thanks.

P.S. Any leads on a good shop in the Toronto area would be great too - I thought I had one, but this is getting to be a little upsetting - thanks.

  2. Hey there,

This really is the place for trouble shooting questions to be answered.

(the mechanic didn't really have a good answer to this one!)

I have a 2000 996 convertible - the door glass on the drivers side quite often (at least 50% of the time) hits the frame of the top when the door is being closed. (such as it doesn't roll down that little bit like the passengers side)

The passenger side goes down a little bit more than the drivers side, and clears the frame without issue.

Not sure if it's related (but most likely is knowing my luck!) - but the drivers side window also makes a little "thud" when it is just about all the way down.

Is this maybe an adjustment that needs to be made - or is it a mechanical issue that needs parts to be replaced (sensors or a motor?)

Please and thanks very much for any advice.... (as per usual!)

  3. Thanks Maurice,

I read those over the weekend and they gave me a little insight as to what and where the problem might be.

With the back panel removed (as shown in the photos for filling the reservoir), I actually saw the small leak - my problem is that the hose is not sold on it's own (as far as I can find) and the cylinder cost is around $700.00

I was just hoping for a magic solution or maybe a trick that someone has come across for not having to pay that sum for something as simple as a damaged hose.

That is a good thread though with the helpful photos....

    Thanks.

  4. Just got back from the mechanic this afternoon regarding the top operation on a 2000 996 convertible.

The top moved 2/3 of the way from opening the lid, unlatching and almost finishing it's cycle - but coming short every time.

It turned out to be a "slightly" leaking hose, which I thought wouldn't be such a big deal.

He turns around and tell me it's not that simple and that the entire "operating piston" has to be replaced because it was designed not to come apart.

Just looking for a second opinion and hopefully a cheaper alternative than the $800.00 parts price I was given.

    Fingers crossed....

    Thanks.
