  1. After about a year my driver's side wouldn't always light first try. Seemed to be getting worse.

I contacted CQ (5000 K kit) and they said to send the components in and they could be tested.

I said I didn't fancy having my car torn apart for a month.

They suggested that I buy a motorcycle kit (one side) and swap out the components.

I asked if everything was the same and they assured me that it was. Wrong - the kit had been

redesigned/improved (better) and none of the plugs were the same. I installed it and it works ok.

I sent the original parts back immediately. CQ gave me a return authorization number and assured

me that I would receive a credit ($92.00).

Now, 2 months later and no refund. I emailed them and have never received a response.

    My move (again)?

go pick up a new set from ddmtuning.com

that's where i got mine.. they're $29 i believe now for the set, with lifetime warranty... or a couple bucks more for slim ballasts (that's what i got)

  2. Here is a link to a video on how to install aftermarket Xenon HID lights with Ballast in your Boxster or 911. Its very easy and takes only 30 minutes per light. Everything plugs in smoothly, no wires to cut.

    http://www.youtube.com/autosupermart

Interesting......My kit was more complicated including an igniter and a large capacitor as well in series with the ballast. I wonder why I had those problems. I may write these autosupermart guys and ask some questions about their return policy and the probs that I had.

    Thanks, Bob

i'm wondering about the complications and difficulties...

my install was so easy, and the kit as super cheap... and from a reputable seller (not just any ebay whatever)

bulb went in, drilled a hole in the headlight cover for the wires (came with grommet too, to waterproof), then plugged those wires into small box then that box into headlight thing... one piece, easy as hell

  3. 2 switch batwing from a 996 should be 996 552 335 02 01C. Same as a 986 batwing except it has the 2 holes for switches. On a 996 they are for heated seats switches.

There are 2 different style blanks. 1997-1999 was a smooth oval, just like your 1999. 2000 up they were shaped like the switches. 2002-2004 is matte finish. Prior years were gloss finish.

is that round thing (i think used for wiper interval if you have that option?) available separately? i was wanting to put a button on that...

  4. Time for a new battery?

the LED seemed as bright as the one in the working unit, just the flashing speed was VERY noticeably different... i guess i could give that a go first...

swapped batteries... original remote worked with either battery... spare flashed slow still, didn't keyless, but still lets car start & drive

  5. When i bought the car, they gave me 2 keys visually similar and then one with a tiny grey head and no alarm controls (valet i assume)...

i've been using one the whole time and it works fine... but i tried the other tonight and while it opens teh door and starts the car, the buttons don't function... i press and hold the button and the red LED on the key flashes slowly, vs. the working one that the red LED flashes quickly...

    any idea?

  6. Copy/pasted from another forum, just looking for help for him..

I was driving home last night and noticed a tick tick tick coming from the engine. I recently installed a K&N and thought the filter was hitting the pulleys. That's what it sounded like initially. However, after pulling in my garage it sounded a heck of a lot worse. Here's video with sound of the noise. Please turn your speakers up. I have a sinking feeling about this...

    video: http://img.photobucket.com/player.swf?file...97/VID00001.flv

The engine only has 69k miles on it. No fluids are leaking and no CEL's have been thrown. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

    and someone replied:

Have some one stand behind the car with engine lid open, look down closely at the back metal plate of the K&N against the engine pulley. You notice that there is a allen screw locate near the pulley on the K&N plate. What happened is that the designer of the K&N didn't see the screw location is too close to the pulley. Feel the allen screw for shaving. If the head screw was shave then you need to move the intake further out. There is not much room but it can be done.

    to which he replied:

Exactly what I thought last night. I pulled the filter box out and it still exists. It very very much sounds like it's coming from the crank case. It's a very very consistant tick...if you increase the idle the noise increases in kind. It's very rhythemic...the wierd thing is that there's no tick tick tick tick TOCK sound like a rod got thrown.

any help would be appreciated! Thanks

  7. will definitely take pics to show you

as a comparison, i have a pic of when i upgraded the rest of my lights to LED... you can see normal bulb-color in my trunk lit up and the LED in my license plate... i think the difference there will be similar to the difference in regular h7 bulbs and the 5000k hid h7's

What bulb / size did you use for the license plate and where did you get it from?

I've been trying to find one to match but I don't want to spend too much experimenting

    Thanks,

    azzar0.

i think there's another post i made here on RT with LED info, if you search my posts...

i got it from ebay user cal-motor ... it's a festoon LED... they come in 37mm, 39mm, and then the next one whch is i think 41mm... i believe the license plate is 2 x 37mm ... the trunk (front and rear) are each 1 x 41mm

  8. i'm gonna get these:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-HID-WHITE...sspagenameZWDVW

i just purchased some 5000k HID's so they should be pretty close

These are very close to the ones I got, but mine are a little more blueish, which matches my HIDs. Since you have a lower temp HID then these would probably work just fine.

Take pictures and let us all know how it comes out :)
