  1. Hi guys need your help again i drive 996 c2 tip. This morning when i started the car the key sticks to a position where the air condition and accesories do not work so i turnd the key back a liittle bit and it worked. does my ignition switch needs replacing? any help would be appreciated thnx!:)

yes it sounds like the actual ignition switch needs replacing as this is the component that has the 'gates' and springs of the various key positions in it. some people think its the housing but without switch on the housing you can simply turn the key without any resistance. so change the switch first!

  2. hello peeps had a recon done on a 2000 996 c2 tip the car has all the power drives great in manual mode when I control the gears via the shift button on the steering wheels it changes up and down perfecty when i control the gear changes.

however the problem is in the auto tip mode it goes into 1st 2nd and 3rd at the right speeds and at the right time but will not go ito 4rth or 5th at all not matter what speed you are doing they will not change up ??

I had the battery off for a day or so I thought the box might learn it self but it does not how do I teach it do I need to disconeect battery again ?

best thing to do is get the car connected to PST 2 and see whats going on?

  3. thanks guys but the two replies contradict each other. one says the negative(vacuum)pressure will get higher and the other says it will get less!

anyway i took throttle body off and intake manifold is full of oil so cleaned everything out. TB,manifold and MAF. cleared faults and driven it hard up the road so will have to give it back to the lady and see if CEL reappears in time? oh and the other thing was she had overfilled oil by about half a litre or so so i corrected that too.

  4. hi all

i have a 2001 boxster here with a cel that can take two weeks or few hundred miles to come on. when reading fault codes it says both 1128 AND 1130. I know these relate to O2 sensors on or beyond threshold. after reading forums i was looking towards AOS being faulty? took oil filler cap off and have quite large suction an gasping from engine so decided replace AOS.

for the record it took about 90 mins. anyway point i have is the symptons of removing oil filler cap exactly same as before. can not find vaccuum leak so was thinking what to do next as it may take weeks for CEL to show there is still a fault.this is a customers car and want to cover all the opyions before returning it. would appreciate your views on this(especially you loren)

  5. :welcome:

Since it is only one cylinder I would check the one spark plug and the spark plug connector.

Maybe swap the spark plug to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows the plug.

    Thank you Loren,

I'll check and let you know.

    Cheers

hi there utinacciu, it seems i have a car here with similar problem. i will be looking at it later so will let you know if changing the spark plugs makes any difference to this car. i know number 6 is the most awkward to change. have had cars in the past that have had a set of plugs fitted but it seemed only 5 of them!!

    Hi topmech0,

I would appreciate, actually it is quite a long job to check /and eventually change that spark plug. For this reason I decided to do it myself instead of asking to the service, but I haven't had time yet.

    Thanks

    Cheers

    Utintacciu

Hi Utintacciu,Just Swapped Out My Spark Plugs For New And Taken It For A Hard 50 Mile Drive With No Cel Or Misfire Problems. My Plugs Were About 10,000mile Also And Looked Not Too Bad. The New Ones Have Meant No Cel,No Misfires So Maybe You Can Update Me On If You Sorted Yours Yet? And If So What Was The Outcome?

  6. Topmech0, what part of the World are you in? I thought the 993TT was made in 1996 and 1997 (USA). But I guess a few others were MY 1998 like in Australia, for example. Thanks.

    in the UK.

just to update this engine Cel coming on. I changed the spark plugs and although they all looked to be ok it seems that the problem is cured. Have taken it on the road and given it hrad acceleration for about 50 miles and so far no cel and no misfires or fault codes

  7. When my Pzero's got worn down they got VERY noisy.

    Jim

its widely known that pirelli tyres give a lot of noise as they wear. but however try to get the noise and gently swerve left and right to see if noise decreases and increases more one way than the other as this should discount that you maybe have a wheel bearing issue! if noisier to the right then generally its the left hand front wheel bearing(loaded side) and vice versa!

  9. hi all on the forum, i have a 993tt(MY 1998) here that is giving a CEL warning and has what feels like a missfire at 4500-5000rpm. if you drive it gentle then boost is there and no problems. if you give it heavy acceleration you get the flashing CEL and a misfire with a noise that sounds like detonation or pinking! let the revs drop to 3000 and light then becomes solid until next hard throttle. from the PST2 i get following fault codes. first thing i will do is change spark plugs(no idea how old) and the intake air temp sensor.this keeps coming up as fault.

    P0112-intake air temp sensor

    P0300-misfire damaging to cat converter

P0306-cylinder 6misfire damaging to cat converter.

this is after clearing all faults and carrying out second road test. any other thoughts of what i should check while head and hands in the engine bay? look forwards to your comments.

  10. hi guys

have a 3.2 boxster (MY00) here that has just had someone change battery for me and strangest thing has happened. i have very little throttle response. have had it on PST2 and the fault code p1502 comes up. if i clear that fault then all is good and car revs fine.......until i turn off ignition and the whole process starts again! any ideas as thought asking here may just save me time until i can start investigating tomorrow. thanks

  11. I'm for sure not a pro here, but I wonder if the residue from the gas evaporating in the tank might have gummed up the sender float and contacts.... maybe cleaning the sender with elect contact cleaner would help. New gas might not remove old gas residue. Just a guess.... good luck.

well guys for the record i sorted it. spoke to porsche and although they say use 28 liter(european) they have had times when it needs less for the calibration to be accepted.they suggested using 20 and with system tester 2 connected keep adding a liter at a time a retry the calibration. it worked at 25liters and now everything is cool!!

  12. I agree with wvicary, that's the question.

the problem was that the car was sitting and battery flat for months. drove the car and it ran out of fuel. filled the tank but gauge did not read full. only about half way. light came back on after few hundred miles. took sender out and when looked in tank there was about third tank full left in there.

  13. hi guys

need some help. have a 996c4s here and want to calibrate the fuel level gauge. anyway when plugged in with system 2 tester and go through calibration of empty tank and fill with required amount it simply comes up with error in calibration. any ideas? checked gauge in drive links and ok. checked sender with ohms meter and seems to recognise the lifting of float. dont want to buy sender until sure this is problem? any ideas loren??

thanks. oh the MY IS 2002.

  14. had the same issue on 993tt and it was definately the slave cylinder!!! the accumulator would give you a hard pedal if defective, especially on the first few pushes after switching off. what happens is the pressure built up by the pump is being allowed into the clutch line and thus causing the resevoir to seem overfilled. change the slave cylinder and bleed....job done! however as the accumulator is screwed onto the slave if you have the money it makes sense to change at same time.

WARNING!!! MAKE SURE YOU PUMP THE CLUTCH PEDAL AROUND 25 TIMES TO DEPRESSURISE THE SYSTEM BEFORE TRYING TO UNSCREW THE ACCUMULATOR!!!!

  17. Fault code 4460 Pressure sensor

Pressure sensor actual value is evaluated and displays an implausible value.

    Possible cause of fault

    - Short circuit to ground/8+ or open circuit

    - Plug connection on stop light switch faulty

    - Incorrect adjustment of the stop light switch

    - Wiring/plug connection between pressure sensor and control module faulty

    - Pressure sensor faulty

NOTE: A malfunction of the stop light switch can cause this fault. The stop light switch must have switched before a brake pressure is recognized. When the brake pedal is actuated, the stop light switch and the brake lights are triggered. The brake pressure on the pressure sensor is 0 bar.

So, check your brake lights first.

thanks loren will check that tomorrow.

  18. Hi All

I have a MY99 C2 cab. I noticed that I have a little slack on the trottle cable. When i put my finger an the cable where it attaches to the trottle body it depress about 1/4" Is this normal? I am wondering if this is related to the hesitation jerky motion I have mentioned on another post. I plan to look into the trottle body this evening How can I tell if it is opening fully? and how can I make adjustments if necessary?

    Thanks

    Christopher

    MY99 manual Cab 57,000miles

    :renntech:

thereshould be a small amount of slack when off throttle. but if you get someone to press the pedal as you watch at the rear you will see if it reaches full throttle without binding on the butterfly too. i dont think this will be linked to your jerky motion?

  19. hello guys

my friend has a 2003 boxster S with 30,000 miles on it. anyway she currently has it in a shop with the old IMS failure. she has been told that she would have had a noise for sometime before the bearing finally let go and it dumped its oil on her drive. only symptons she had was that the check light came on about 30 seconds prior to her pulling over. she then got out and saw oil starting to pour from middle of engine area.

my question is to the people on here is,if you had this failure on your car before then did you hear any noise before the oil leak or light coming on? be interested to know your experiences on this??

  20. well my limited experience (i.e. no track - only autox) the plus size up front helped reduce some of the understeer. Plus it seems difficult at times to find the 225 in the PS2. I have also heard really great things about the Advans, but if you go that way I would think you should buy them all around and not mix.

i know this probably goes against the grain but by stiffening the rear even more should help the understeer but definately tyres first!!
