In the next months I hope to buy a 996.
I am undecided whether to choose a carrera 4 tip (2002/2003) or a TT (2001/2002).
I have read a lot respect of RMS and I have understood that the TT is uninjured from this defect.
I concern to the breakups or porosity defects of the cylinder/block that can happens to the 996 carrera motor, is possible that does also happen on the TT,
or the cylinder/block is completely different ?
I hope to have been clear in my weak english.

the 996tt has a version of the earlier type bottom end. as per 993 and 964 so isnt effevted by the RMS or IMS failures that 996 carrera and boxsters suffer. i think i am right in saying that 2005 onwards carry a modified shaft so if you want to avoid these problems then i would go for the TT model on my02. just my opinion.

if your looking for a replacement without spending opc money then here in europe we use alot of DANSKE exhaust parts as much cheaper and fit perfectly. sounds ok too. am not saying its the one to use but as you well know that the saying "you get what you pay for" is definately used in this situation.

Hi Folks,
I have just changed the battery in my car (99 C4) and now the fuel gauge has an error in it. Prior to changing the battery, the fuel gauge read at 1/4 full. With the new battery fitted, the gauge was on empty and warning light was illuminated. I went and filled the car up (I made absolutely sure that it was full) and the gauge now reads 3/4 full. Switching the car on / off makes no difference to the situation.
Any suggestions?

it sounds like you will have to take it to OPC or an indy with system 2 tester. the gauge will have to be recalibrated. its a strange sequence but in general tank must be completely drained and a measured amount(think its 28 litre) put in and gauge then calibrated with the porsche system 2 tester. oh and that figure is european,not US litres. yours are about 0.9 of ours!!

The trans should slide straight on with no real problems. I find best way is to put the trans in to any gear and if no luck then slowly turn half shaft flanges as you push toward motor. There maybe a possibility that you have slightly moved the centre disc of clutch as you have been struggling. I would remove clutch,check the centre disc on the trans input shaft(to check correct fitting), then using clutch aligning tool refit clutch to flywheel and try again. Good luck and hope you have a buddy to help as its so much easier with two pairs of hands.

sounds like you will need the plates to fit in the rear of cams and the lock pin for tdc on the crank. make sure you get the correct info and tools or could have an expensive repair bill if cam timing is incorrect.
