  1. Hey, I'm just reportng what's happening, Maybe the batteries I'm buying at Target are " a poor batch". I talked to my Porsche mechanic and he said that they once had a bad batch of batteries. Could a reprogramming of the keys change this? The LED light only goes on when the button is pushed. First day nice bright light, second or third day dim light, and fourth day vey little light.
  2. I am having an irritating problem. I have a 2003 Boxster, bought secondhand in 2008, that came with two keys. This year finally, both keys started having battery problems. I replaced the batteries in both keys. The problem I'm having is that the keys are only lasting 1-2 days. After two days or so, the keys tranponders don't work and the light barely flickers. I bought a battery tester to check the batteries and have found that the keys only work when the reading is on the extreme green (GOOD) setting. Once the battery has decreased slightly, but still in the "GOOD" range, the keys don't work because the signal is too weak. So what's the best solution? I called the local Porsche dealer (Santa Barbara) and they told me to get a new transponder would be $183, with a $70 reprogramming addition. I've looked at the transponders on my keys and they look to be in good condition. It's just the battery usage that's driving me nuts. Plus the rubber band that goes in both keys has been stretched out beyond hope, which makes the keys hard to seal completely.
  3. I've been having a problem for the last month or so that has become aggravating. I received two keys and a valet key when I bought my used Boxster three years ago. Both keys worked well, though definitvely showing use. A month ago, i had to finally replace the watch battery in both my primary and secondary key. Since then I've run into a problem that has become a nuisance. The watch batteries don't last in the keys. They are 3V Lithium batteries and they are only lasting 1-3 days. by the third day, the light barely lights up when I push the button. One question, I have is can this be fixed by reprogamming the key? I called the local Porsche dealer and they charge $70 to reprogram all three keys. Will this fix the problem? What could be draining the watch battery? A new remote is $183 so If I have to pay for a new remote on top of the reprogramming of the keys, I'm looking at $275 (incl tax) out the door for one new transponder and two re-programmed keys. You can buy a lot of watch batteries for $275 and money is tight. Any suggestions welcome.
  4. Finally went and bought a gray, 2003 Boxster w/ Triptonic. I'm a 52 yr Financial Analyst who has always driven cheap cars. Manager specials (my VW Golf), Toyotoa P/U w/ rust, Toyota Camry (great car), two Saturns (never again) and so forth. I thought cars were a necessary evil, there used to be little mass transportation in this region of California. I've admired the way the Boxster and the opportunity just came up for car that met all my variables (local seller, decent price, Tiptronic), so I decided, what the hell. My insurance is going by $500 a year, but that's not too bad. I still have to clean the garage out so I'll have to get a good outdoor cover for now. The adventure begins...
