  1. I'll do the easy one. Your first point - you can stop worrying as they all do that. Its to do with the geometry of the suspension and there is nothing wrong, Your other 2 points are more difficult and I'll have to leave that to someone more knowledgable than me. Regards, Mike
  2. I have been advised about some HID kits for around £50 which sound interesting and much cheaper than I thought they would be. Anybody got experience of Kits from eBay seller "j_a_m_performance" or indeed any other kits from other outlets sub £80 that are reliable and fully compatible with Porsche ECU/bulb failure warning systems?
  3. I'm thinking my standard halogen bulbs (especially when on dipped) are not as far reaching as I would like. In a previous driving life (the bad old days when I had an SLK) I used Osram Silverstar bulbs. These were brighter and whiter than standard bulbs and gave generally better results despite being the same Wattage rating as the standard bulbs. I now see that Osram do a newer bulb called Night Breaker (although they still do the Silverstar as well). Anybody know how these (or indeed the Silverstar bulbs) perform compared with OEM bulbs? Any problems with these and the plastic lenses that the Boxster has? Do I need to change sides, fogs, mains and dipped at the same time? Any other suggestions (short of going for HID lamps).
  4. As far as I know the over revs were when the previous owner had the car. I thought range one meant hitting the rev limited at 7000 and range 2 was 200 above limiter ie 7000-7200? The wheels I have are the Standard OME Boxster S wheels (albeit my cars a Boxster not an "S")
  5. I bought my Boxster in March this year (it was first registered 25th May 2006) and when it was in my OPC more recently I asked that they give me print out of the over rev record. The report showed 655 ignitions in range 1 and 44 ignitions in range 2 - I assume this is nothing to worry about? Further down the report it reported "total distance". This was recorded as 17952.000. Not sure if this is Miles or Km but if the latter then this would equate to 11154 miles. My speedo stated ~11600 miles (I didnt actually check it at the time hence the approx figure). So if units are Km on the DME report then there is just 400 miles that's unexpalined but if the units were Miles then the difference is over 6000 miles. My questions:- Is the "Total Distance" the distance the car as travelled ie equals speedo distance? Is the DME units Km or Miles? What scenarios would expalin the difference? A fact that may have a bearing on this is that a month earlier I had the PCM swapped out under warranty (single cd was not working). Is this data storred in the PCM or elsewhere? Also shorly after I had the PCM swapped out, the service indicator warned that a service was due sometime in early June although 2 year service should have been due in May had it not been service by the OPC as part of the purchase 2 months earlier. Is the service data storred in the PCM or could this just be a coincidence that the original dealer forgot to reset the system when he serviced it? Can anyone explain these apparent discrepancies ?? Mike
  6. I am looking to replace my existing titanium/silver coloured "Boxster" badge off the boot with a Chrome version. Yeh my wife says what for aswell ! Anyway, any guides on how to get the old one off and suggestions of where to get a new Chrome version from?
  7. Anyone tried the Bosch Aerotwin blades (or other manufacturers equivalents) in place of the OEM blades My OEM passenger blade is curved but not sure you can get aeroblades that are curved - any comments?
  8. Yes they are all Mitchelin Pilot Sports (N rated) I guess I will go with just 1 new one on the front for the moment then. Thanks for the advice.
  9. I have had my Boxster only 4 weeks (fitted with std 18" Boxster S wheels) and already have a puncture in near side front caused by a nail. Local Porsche Centre has been able to source 1 Mitchelin and proposed fitting that to replace damaged tyre whilst leaving all other tyres OK. The fronts have about 6-7mm tread having done 10,000 miles whereas the rears are down to 3-4mm. I dont want to waste money buying tyres I dont need but will I get handling problems mixing new with part warn on the front. I realise that these tyres are very difficult to get and Porsche may be trying to avoid having to pay towards replacing all 4 tyres if I need to go over to a complete set Bridgestones (assuming they cannot source another new Mitchelin for the front off side). Should I insist on both tyres being replaced or just go for the one??
  10. PCM software is Version 3.3 The other stuff is:- PCM 05024ed1/4705 Sys 04514bd1/5104 Nav 00174436/2906 Phone 05034b54/0305 CDC 38/3003
  11. I'm a fairly typical 5'11" although I'm not the slimmest guy in the world! I was thinking of trying one of those devices that clamp onto the belt to stop it being pulled tought by the initia reel - just a little worried if this adversely impacts effectiveness of the pre-tensioners?
  12. Thanks for the suggestion but I tried moving the seat forward and back and up and down a little but to no effect. I guess if I adjusted it enough it might make a difference but then I would have other "comfort"problems. Someone has suggested one of the those seat belt pads from motor accessory shops but I'm not sure that's what I want either. Is there some sort of extension bar that would effectively move the pivot point of the belt behind your shoulder. Any other ideas?
  13. I've only had my Boxster 987 for less than a month and I must be a wierd shape or size or something but on a long journey I become increasingly aware of the the pressure of the seat belt against the side of my neck. Does anyone else find this or know of any solution?
  14. Shouldn't the 2008's come with the most up-to-date version? They no doubt do but I didnt get my copy from a 2008 model. I thought a late 2006 version was better than the 2005 version that britairdog already has. But if soemone has a 2008 UK version - I'm interested in getting a copy too ;) Mike Mine is a 2008... but the dvd is from 2007 Looking at the TSBs, it seems that 08.2007 may be the latest release todate. I think this latest version is associated with Software Version Model Level C, whereas Nav DVDs from 04.2005 upto but not including 08.2007 are associated with Software Version Model B. To go from Level B to level C requires you to load software updates via a couple of CD before you load up the later Nav DVD. PS Obviously DVDs supplied in US will be different to DVDs supplied in UK but I think the DVD Version numbers Vs Software Levels still applies. Can someone confirm all this? Mike

  16. Hi Pop, Thanks for the feedback. In my case the target is blank fort all 5 sub-systems even in the case where there is a tick against the sub-sytem (Navigation). Do you think this loss of "target" was caused by loading the newer DVD or might it always have been like this? I've only had a car a couple of weeks and didnt know about the software check menu until after I tried loading the new DVD. Putting the old DVD back in and accepting the software update doesnt change this situation. Is getting the OPC to reset everything going to cost the usual arm and a leg or is this something they can do whilst I wait (under warranty if its possible that it was like this when I bought it) Mike
  17. My Boxster 2.7 was first registered in May 2006 and came supplied with a PCM DVD dated 04.2005. The DVD is marked 997.642.255.03.7L5.919.859.AP. I have recently got hold of a newer DVD (10.2006 marked 997.642.255.05.7L5.919.859.AP). My question is can I just load the new DVD and accept the software update or is there something else I need to do? I've read other posts about having to load software updates via CD first - is this only if youre trying upgrade from pre PCM2 to post PCM2?? PS If you press the "main" and "trip" buttons on the PCM panel together you can check software levels loaded on the system. In my case of the 5 items listed (PCM, System, CD changer, Navigation and Phone) all of them except for the Navigation has something like a warning triangle sign. The navigation entry has a tick. Everytthing seems to be working but why the warning triangles??
  18. Hi, I have a copy of a 2007 model PCM2.1 DVD - labelled as 10/2006. The code on the disc is 997.642.255.05.7L5.919.859.AP. Contact with your email address if you want me to send it (about 2GB of data). Mike
