I have a new teq rb in the fs section if anybody needs one.

Wow the car drives great on a track. I spent the whole weekend at Sebring and passed our region's instructor's school. I'm getting nationally certified as well. The -20mm is the way to go if you want to emphasize handling and you're willing to give up some ride compliance over bumps. The other thing is you're going to scrape the under-nose spoiler lip thing.
Very cool indeed, do post your experience over on rennlist as well. Are you gonna do the LSD as well, might be more hassle than it's worth.

it must be my manual driving skills. lol
any recommendations on where i can go to learn how to drive manual in the nyc area? i think i better learn how to driving manual properly before i mess up my car (also, so i can beat m3s) =)
jason
Not sure a porsche is a great car to learn a manual on, drive a beater is a better way to learn.

I have been changing the oil in my 996 for the last 30K miles and change it every 5K-7.5K and NEVER had to add oil between changes. A couple times between changes I have maybe added .5 qt but that was after a hard weeekend on the track. I have a tough time believing that anything more than what I experience is normal.
I still use a qt every 1000 miles or so, more at the track. I run too light a grade though, 5w30, it's what's readily available around me, I'll be switching back to 0w50 to see if that makes a difference. I did try stp a while back, really slowed the use alot.
It may be common, but it ain't normal to use that much oil.

Isnt the C4S coupe lighter then the E46 M3 coupe? So with the M3's 13 horse power advantage it should be a drivers race given a 6spd. I think BMWs SMG is lightning quick, so a SMG M3 might have a slight advantage.
Going to Motor Trends site they list the following
2004 C4S
0-60 4.6 (seems fast)
1/4 mile 12.9 @ 108.7
2005 BMW M3 Comptetition Package
0-60 4.8
1/4 mile 13.3 @ 104.4
Of course every magazine has different numbers, car and driver had totally different numbers for their m3 for when it was new and when it had 40K on it so I didnt know what set to use.
I've never had any problems lapping m3's at the track, frankly they just get in the way. I don't usually 'street race' , but a m3 just could't keep up with me tonight on the LIE.

Ditto what a dell said, run don't walk. 525$ is too much for thar POS anyway.
If it's good, it ain't cheap, and if it's cheap, it ain't good!

Very impressive, good 'ole KC engineering (I'm from KC myself), I'm def gonna try it this winter.
Did you use your elevator motor or a TT version for the functional blade?
-
Is the blade now functional?
-
Looks great, I'm gonna try it myself this winter. A9, I'd pass on the mishagt2 wing, I had it, just too in your face, you'll be tired of it in a week.

What offset are the wheels?
Make sure they will clear your brakes as well, sometimes, the 17in. wheels fit but you need a spacer, 5-6mm to clear the brakes, and that will need longer lugs......

Does anybody know if 2002 996 C4s OEM Wheels 18 by 8.5 and 18 by 11 (225/40R18 ZR 295/30R18 ZR ) will fit on a 2001 996 C2, which currently has 17" oem wheels.
Help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ross
Only the sport technos will fit, as they have the same nb offset, et63. The stock C4S/TT wheels have a et45 offset, can't work on a nb car.

how do you like that airbox, 99c4?

First off, this issue has been discussed almost everywhere here. Clearly, there is the camp that feels changing intake/filters makes a difference and then there are those that feel it doesn't largely because of the following:
"Why wouldn't Porsche have increased inflow in the first place if that was all that was required for easy HP gains?"
That's a good question. I don't have an answer. But, I have undertaken some simple performance mods on my motorcycles and dynoed it all things equal except for the change. It's unbelievable what a freer flowing exhaust and intake did for my bike. And it was ABSOLUTELY noticeable on the road...scary noticeable from stock. Now, perhaps the bike benefitted from shedding 20 lbs from the stock exhaust to aftermarket, and perhaps it's more noticeable because bikes are SO much lighter. But, whatever the case may be, it just makes sense.
And the reason it makes sense is because Porsche has something called California emissions that it has to deal with. The minute you start sacrificing performance for the environment, you start to give up a little edge. Accordingly, intake/exhaust mods from after-market companies that are not beholden to these emissions standards should add some measure of power. The REAL question is, "How noticeable?" I guess that's a matter of perspective and perception.
As for me, I haven't modded my 911 yet, but I am getting very close to swapping out the exhaust and the intake (or at least the filter). We shall see...
Don't waste your money.

Get snows and you can go through anything, no problem.
-
Three that I've used:
DeMan Motorsport in Nyack, NY
Farnbacher-Loles in Danbury, CT
Rennwerke in Elmsford, NY
--- Tom
Who would you recommend out of the three
TKX Racing, formerly RPM, Taso 631-424-3640
-
Prob cam cover, sprays more/ more noticable at high RPM.

I wouldn't pin my hopes up on them turning quiet over the next two weeks, they won't or you will get used to them.
My GHL regular version (not loud) are just slightly louder than stock at idle/ less than 3k rpm, when you hit it, they are louder than PSE. I think they are the pefect compromise, I have no regrets.
-
Thank you Bob and Don. I will be checking all the bolts, and re-torquing further to make sure they are tight.
Worse case, it is too loud for a Cabrio, and I will order PSE's and sell the Fabspeeds on E-bay. I will see if I can borrow a decibel meter and post results.
Fabs are loud no doubt about it, my brother had 'em on for about a month, couldn't take it and got some GHL quiets. Another friend has them and loves it, muffler sound is a very personal thing, always try to hear them first. BTW PSE ain't quiet either.
-
Your offset is stamped on the outside of the rim by the valve stem, 11J 45 or 63 for example. I bought some knockoff rims on ebay and some TR snows, works ok, way cheaper than porsche.
-
Mine just pops in/out, no clips at all.
-
Glad it worked out for you, sounded like a nightmare install, my brother and I put his in a little while ago and it was a *****. Anybody that says it is easy hasn't done it, I'm actually doing mine this wknd.
Those guys should make the car right free of charge. Some of these 'tuners' are out of control. Good luck.
-
Shouldn't be a major prob. BTW what finally happened with your roll bar?
-
Bav, it's part of the security system in the car, mine did it so much the dealer ended up replacing the radio. Still does it, not as frequently though.

When I disconnect the battery will it interfere with the computer?

Been there, done that, got the t shirt!
PSE, zero hp. Fabspeed/GHL probably a small gain.
Airbox, 1-4hp, a guy dynoed a fabspeed one awhile back (with BMC1 I believe). One guy actually lost power on a dyno with the evo box, who knows.
Really the best mod for a C4S is the X73 suspension, total transformation of the car into a very aggressive Mr Hyde. Usually go on sale a couple of times a yr. at Suncoast, Braman porsche at a descent price. Gert sells it too, but with the exchange his prices blow.
I may have a set of GHLs for a C4S if you're interested. PM me
