    I just ran the Big Bend Open Road Race on Saturday April 26th. My 2006 997 Carrera S has the Sport Chrono Plus option to monitor time and mileage but the odometer and speedometer are off so it doesn't help any. The race has a laser triggered speed measurement, not radar which can be affected by sideswipe etc. My speeds were all off, speedometer showed 72 MPH and laser measurement was 70. Speedometer reading of 117 was laser measured at 114. Length of the course is GPS measured at exactly 59.0 miles, my odometer showed 58.6 miles. The purpose of the open road race is to finish closest to an exact speed. My target was 110 MPH and I finished at 110.198 MPH. The winner, in a Corvette, finished at 110.008 MPH. A Porsche should be exactly measuring speed and distance. Why have it measure inaccurately? That seems ridiculous for such a precision manufactured machine. My PCM display showed an average speed of 107 MPH at the finish compared to the 110.198 MPH actual. The race measurements are accurate and verified by dozens of other cars with much closer times. 80% of the 152 entries were corvettes, only 6 were Porsches. We need to get the factory people involved in improving accuracy. The tolerance between a piston and the cylinder wall is measured to the thousandths, why not have the speedometer accurate too!

    I just finished running in the Big Bend Open Road Race on Saturday April 26th. There were 152 cars entered and 80% were corvettes. Only 6 Porshes entered and of those 3 had mechanical problems and didn't finish the race. My 2006 997 Carrera S did just fine and was a blast to drive. This is my second Porsche, first was a 2001 996 Carrera. My close friend and my Brother both drive 2007 Corvette Z06s and I got to drive them. Their acceleration off of the line is far superior to the Porsche but handling at 120+ MPH has to go to the Carrera S. Neither of their cars feels like the Porsche in the turns, they feel like the rear is about to slide out even though it's not. Sound levels in both cars are about the same, options are similar but we get a back seat. It takes them 500+ HP to equal my 355 HP. I could have bought either the Vette or the Carrera and my garage has the Porsche. That's my opinion from just having driven both vehicles less than a week ago and at high speeds.

    The B-K bracket for the 997 is different than the one for the 996 and mounts between the seat motors and the frame. Their website has great instructional photos. The bracket is part # R-2035. I think the 4 nuts on the seat may prove to be the easy part. Thanks for the responses. I will post results after installing.

    I talked to a couple folks during a DE day who managed to install the BK bracket w/o removing the seat, but they did remark it was a bit of a squeeze. I think they loosened the front of the seat somehow and then tilted it back to get access.

    I need to install a fire extinguisher for a rally. I found one mfg by Brey-Krause that looks worthwhile. Their installation instructions start with " Step 1. Remove seat from vehicle". Is this as easy as it sounds or is it going to be difficult? Is there another fire extinguisher mount that is easier to install?

    I just bought a used 2006 Carrera 'S' 3 weeks ago and am in love. I replaced my 2001 Carrera and went from 305 HP to 355 HP. I have the sport chrono option and it's stopwatch and timing options are a great addition. I shopped for 4 months before finding exactly what I wanted. In that time I found that when the models changed in 2005 the prices forward stayed the same, in other words a 2006 costs just about the same as a 2005. So why not get one a year newer. If you can work with a dealer and get a Porsche certified car, the warranty will be extended for another 4 years and to a total of 100,000 miles.
