  1. Good point re connectors.  sometimes things do come loose.  

    I doubt that would happen in both doors at the same time, unless the car had been apart for restoration or painting or something that required both door panels to be removed.

    I'm not sure that's likely.

    Only other possibility is that the fuses were rewired to accommodate a radar detector or other accessory and were not properly remarked.

  2. Try using a wire coat hanger bent into a hook shape.

     

    There is a little plastic pull in the right door jam that is used if the fuel door lock doesn't open.  I found mine broken off for no apparent reason.  It may have been hung up in the door, I don't know.  But it was easy to turn a wire coat hanger into an emergency fuel door release tool.

     

    Same thing would probably work as a mechanics hook to grab the rear end release cable.

     

  3. you might check out the cost of a new control panel unit.  

    I know from numerous forum topics that the each dash unit can be taken out and dash positions rearranged.

    So maybe there is a way to test your control, and if faulty maybe swap it out for a replacement.

    Or, if everything else fails, change it just to see if a new one might solve the problem.

    (This posting is revised to correct the year and model of my friends Boxster GTS.)(and again to note car is a 981.)

    I have a friend who went to Germany and came home with a 2015 Boxster GTS.

    He has asked me about new tires and I could only tell him about my adventures with my 911SC and 996 C4S.

    What is the current thought re putting new tires on the Boxster?  Anyone?  Anyone?

    Does anyone have a positive, or for that matter a negative opinion, on replacement tires.

    My friend intends to put on 4 tires and I've advised him not to mix and match manufacturers.

    I run Michelin PS2's, N3, on my C4S and like them way better than any others.

  6. 3 quick and modest points:

    1.  try Red Line 10-40.

    2.  this thread seems to argue against installing the DOF to the IMS.  I'll be facing this issue in approx 25k miles when I plan on a new LNE bearing.

    3.  Carefully listen to the cats.  I had a clicking sound similar to what you describe that was driving me crazy, and my inde heard it in the left cat.  Replaced.  Solved.

  7. Does your car have the smokers package, meaning do you have a cigarette lighter?

    If so, check the lighter plug.  It may be that the lighter is engaged, not working, but still draining the battery.

    Just a thought...probably not correct but worth a check.

    I use my lighter plug to run a GPS, or to backfeed a trickle charger to the battery when away and not driving for more than a week.
