  1. Just wired an ipod and figured I would steal power from the PSM switch and ground through the radio frame. Only now the ipod is always on. I thought PSM power was switched with the ignition? In fact, I recall my tester telling me this too. Any ideas what I have done wrong? Maybe grounding to the radio frame? Any electrical guru's want to help.

    Thanks!

I'm not a pro at this by any means, but there have been many posts about the problems in connecting ipods to the radio system and many posts about psm issues as well. Re the psm, "been there, done that." I'd hold off doing anything additional until the issue has been thoroughly vetted. There is a recent thread about installing a Kenwood head unit, with gps, etc., that accepts ipods that you might want to check. The electrical system involved with the psm seems to me, imho, to be too touchy to mess with. good luck, hope it works out well for you.

  2. Izzy, I don't know if it makes a whole lot of difference, but I stick with OEM blinker fluid.

It blinks smoother and quieter, and the reverse tilt function also swivels smoother as well.

Worth the few extra dollars IMHO.

well, I like the 15-50 blinker fluid, but many here prefer the 0-40. I use Red Line, but most use Mobil 1. Have to be careful not to overfill your blinker tank, or you will get blinker fluid running down your leg when you hit 125 on a hard right auto-x corner. Let the blinker fluid wars begin... forget all the previous oil wars, and "just have fun." Cheers and happy Christmas to all.

  3. Please help! I purchased a used set of PSE cans, and when they arrived, they sound like there is a lot of metal shavings rattling inside them. Are they shot, is this just the beginning of the end, or are they ok? The seller has indicated that they sounded great on his car, and recommends that I install them to see how they sound. I know it is not much to install them, but I am in a cold area, so it will be a bit more of a project. One actually sounds like it has a larger "chunk" inside.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

They're shot. sounds like the baffles are worn out.... like the sound from a worn-out cat converter when the guts start to come loose. hope not, but imho.... :(

  4. I have a 2004 C4S Cab and it has the Bose Radio. Am interested in a nice but reasonbly priced Nav system w/bluetooth. It does not look like there is much room for it, but would welcome suggestions and photos of installations. I know I said reasonbly priced, but I have no ideas what reasonably priced would be.

  5. Hi Guys

picked up a 2003 C4S 6 speed manual ,im noticing a noise when driving(its louder on the highway),hard to explain it sounds like when a coffee pot is at the end of the brew ,any idea what it could be,its a 1 owner car with 23000,clean car fax, hard to explain(sounds like coffee pot perking fast, the rougher the road the louder it is,had a porsche tech drive the car he said he thinks its tires,i needed rears anyways so i put a set of Sumitomo HTR 111,noise is exactly the same so rule out tires,i had it checked again at the Porsche dealer, they said they think its wheel bearings, had them both changed and still have the noise,is this common with the 4S?,does the 4WD system transmit tire/road noise different?,just wondering if anyone has noticed this in there cars,i also have a 99C2 Tip and it is very smooth

    any input appreciated Thanks Albert

Nope. My 2003 C4S is my daily driver with about the same mileage. Never noticed what you describe, although road surface does effect tire noise. I like Bridgestone 050 pole position's. Hope you solve this interesting question....

  6. Do NOT use belt dressing on a serpentine belt. It states so on the spray cans. V belts sit IN the V of the pulley, so the dressing can help them seat properly. Serps seat against both the front and back of the belt and dressing actually makes them slip more. I have unfortunately proven this fact on a different car, and could not clean the old serp belt, which was only about 2 years old, enough to make it work properly again and had to buy another belt. All quiet again. I had been using Dayco belts, which cost a bit more, but just went to a standard grooved serp and it is quieter than it was with the Dayco. If you have a "performance" belt, that has a different pattern than just the grooves that match the crank pulley, then that is probably the source of the noise.

Do not use any belt dressing on a serpentine belt. Belt dressing is for V belts only. good luck,

  7. Okay, so I was rushing home yesterday, not feeling well and I was speeding in the TT (go figure). On my radar detector, I have X-Band disabled as California has not used X-Band radar in years and don't remember the last time I saw an officer using X-Band.

But he got me going 83, radar detector never went off. Anyone in CA noticed X-band recently or heard anything?

And yes, thank goodness that I'm a giving guy and donated to the wonderful organization of the CHP 11-99 Foundation. It saved my behind just as it does for the spouses of those great officers.

    :thankyou:

    Ben

Oregon State Troopers, generally great guys by the way, are using x-band.

  8. Discovered this weekend that keeping the PSM off does not actually cure the problem...

Its much harder to get the front wheel to lock / pulse but it did happen twice in a 50 mile canyon run. Same situation -- left turns only. Only its much less perceptible with the PSM off.

My guess is whatever is causing this initiates the reaction, then the PSM kick in which makes the problem worse. But given it seems to be initiated with the PSM off, it seems like it is not a wheel sensor problem.

Any other ideas beyond having the wheel bearings checked? Also if I have my mechanic check the wheel bearings anything specific to check for?

    Thanks again,

Tounor, was this ever resolved? Happened to me once today in a tight left. Others?

  9. agree with all the comments above!

speaking from a slightly biased standpoint (mine's a 2003 C4S in So. Cal. too), i think the 996 C4S is the best-looking porsche you can buy at a "less than supercar price". Another factor to consider is that there were many, many more C4S produced than the other p-car models in MY2003. This "should" help when looking for parts, etc, but can't provide any definitive proof of that assumption... Of the total MY2003 p-car factory production output (approx. 29,500), one quarter of them were C4S coupes.

also see numerous comments in most desirable post

    totally agree.....

  10. I'm curious is your Porsche your daily driver, how far do you drive, and what were your previous daily drivers?

My '09 C4S is my daily driver and I drive about 2500 miles per month.

Since High School my daily drivers have been: '?? Opel Station Wagon, '72 Mercury Comet, '77 Toyota Celica, '81 VW Rabbit (Diesel), '83 Datsun 280ZX, '94 Infiniti J30, '90 Honda Accord, '00 Pontiac Trans AM, '02 Lexus LS-430, '07 Lexus SC-430, and now the '09 C4S.

    03 C4S daily driver for about 1 1/2 years. 79 911sc daily driver for 326k miles.
