  1. Just out of curiosity, is that the airport in Fort Worth? Nope, it's an airport in Tennessee. The hangar of the guy I bought it from. After looking at the latest numbers in Excellence, I would say I got a nice deal:)
  2. Found out the previous owner, did it intentionally when he put in white face gauges. He was getting a lot of speeding tickets, so he adjusted the needle! lol. at least I know I am not crazy!! thanks all!
  3. The wheels are 17" Borbets. So, I know that will have something to do with the discrepancy. Didn't think it would be that m uch though. But as long as I know, it's no big deal. I looked around, and it looks like the plug wires need to be replaced. So, I think that might be my culprit as far as the running goes. Will check the sensor if the wires don't do it. Thanks!!
  4. So, I just bought the 87 Cabrio, with 5spd manual..and I have noticed only 2 small issues. First is, the speedo is about 10mph off. It does have aftermarket Borbet wheels. Is this a common issue? Anyway to correct it? Secondly, when first starting the car, it will idle and sometimes die. It fires right back up, and will go. But once the car warms up, no issues. Also, coincidentally, when the car first starts it runs just fine, but seems like when the car warms up it REALLY COMES alive! The car never misses, or runs badly, but when it warms up it feels MUCH stronger. Is this common?? I appreciate the info!
  5. I am buying it! :) Can't wait! Always wanted a 911! Will definitely going to be checking this place out thoroughly!!! Thanks for all the help I am going to ask for in the future!!
  6. Greetings, may remember me, I was asking about the 74 Targa. Car needed a lot of work. So, I found an 87 Cabrio. Dark gold color, with black top. Guy that owns it, runs a European repair shop. So, he has taken great care of the car. Everything works as it should. EVERYTHING. Rear window is clear, drives like new. 100k miles, new tires, Borbet wheels, in just great condition. Can get it for 14,000. Seems like a heck of a deal to me. There are 911's around here with 160k+, and they are going for 20,000. Seems like that isn't that far out of line. So, the 14k for this car feels VERY good. Any thoughts?
  7. Thanks for the reply Loren! The car is in TN, and I believe it's been here it's whole life. So, should have stayed away from salt, snow, etc. As far as carbs or not, I didn't get a great look at the car. The owner wasnt around, and I just did a quick drive by of it. The person who was there, knew nothing about the car. I am going back on Saturday to get a better look at it. I will take pictures then! I am a BIG fan of older cars, and I am just looking for a fun run-about. Don't need it to be perfect, just reliable! Thanks for the reply!!!
  8. Greetings all! As the title eludes to, I am looking at a 74 Targa. Guy says it's been in his family since new. Currently the car is probably about a 7 on a scale to 10. Body looks solid, interior would need seats and doors recovered. Says there is a 3.0 in the car now. Car has been sitting a little bit. He curbed it pretty bad, and bent passenger side wheels. Took them off to get repaired, and it has sat since. Appears everything works, except odometer (which appears to be relatively normal for these cars). Guy says he was daily driving it, until the accident. Been very upfront, telling me the car will pop out of 2nd. So, MIGHT need a new clutch, or even tranny rebuild. IS there anything in particular I should look for? There are no wheels on passenger side, so cant take it for a spin at the moment. Gonna call a local Porsche shop, and see if they have a couple of spare rims to throw on it, to get it there for a check up. Guy is asking 9000 obo. Seems like a very reasonable price to me. I am fairly handy with a wrench, so I can do some stuff on my own. And, I am prepared to spend some money to make it decent. Not looking for a 10, but a nice 8. A good driver, that looks good. Thoughts??? Oh, one last thing. As I was checking it out, noticed levers near gear shift. Think they said throttle and heat???? What are these??? and one had a toggle switch on it. Any clues??? THANKS!!!!
