  1. OK thanks I'll query it - I,m sure the diagnostic's equipment will be Porsche specific - it's a well regarded independant. Assuming codes are as you say where is likely source of air leak?
  2. Could be I guess - they have said P 1138 by email - could be a typo I suppose!
  3. My garage tells me I have codes P1130 and P1138 showing - what are the likely causes? 1999 Carrera 4 tiptronic.
  4. I had exactly this problem - it was the plastic cover on the centre latch which had broken and come loose therefore not making the switch properly.Cheap fix - just glue the plastic cover back on.
  5. Thanks to everyone for your help - I can get it fixed now.
  6. Yes thay,s it Dharn - the oil is leaking out between the hexagonal head and the casting. Is there a sealing washer or is it the tensioner that,s failed. How do you change it - can you just screw it out and screw a new one in.The engine is a Porsche re-manufactured unit with only 20,000 miles on it ,would you expect such a failure? Thanks for the response!
  7. Hi Loren - I,ve just been looking at cab713,s post a bit further down the page headed oil leak and he,s included two pictures. The right hand one shows the bolt I,m talking about !!!
  8. Thanks for the speedy response - I can,t match what I,m looking at with the diag. The plug sticks downhill and is like a large hexagonal screw with the end machined out to make it hollow. It is about 10mm from touching the anti roll bar and more or less in line with the Variocam word cast into the engine.Oil pressure relief sounds sensible - I just can,t make the drawing fit - I forgot to mention that my car is a 1999 C4 tip.
  9. I have an oil leak when the engine is running ie.when it,s under pressure, from what appears to be a plug screwed uphill into a casting on the side of the engine just by the anti roll bar. This is on the left hand side of the engine looking from the back. The "plug" is hexagonal and about 30mm across the flats. It looks as though there may be a washer or gasket under the head of the plug which has failed. What is this component - does it just unscrew - is it an easy DIY to fix it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
  10. Me and the co-pilot (wife) set off a couple of weeks ago with the sun out and temperature at -2C. Heated seats on and heater blowing hard - brilliant!!If its dry get the hood down.
  11. I am about to fit a ballast resistor which I got from a breakers to one of my radiator fans. The one on the car has white,green/white and green wires while the new one has white and two greens.Does it matter which of the green,green/white I connect together - obviously I,ll connect both white wires!
  12. Have you made any progress in finding the fault yet? I have exactly the symptoms you describe.
  13. I want to adjust the handbrake on my 1999 c4.How do i get access to the adjusting nuts on the handbrake lever. How much of the centre console do i need to remove and how do i do it,Havent been able to find this info with a search.
  14. Ive just replaced the air con condensers and wan to replace the dessicator before recharging the system.I,ve got the part but can,t see where or how it fits .Can you give me some instructions please . My car is a 996 c4 - 1999.
