  1. Anyone out there in Renntech land ever rig up a "mute" button for the PCM system....or perhaps re-program another button to accomodate this function. I don't want to have to search down menus to mute the system while driving, or turn off the entire system just to mute the radio for a minute or two, while talking on a non-bluetooth phone. Or..... if someone has a wiring diagram that indicates how the non-factory add-on bluetooth systems mute the system, I could probably tap an external switch into that. Thanks for any help you guys/gals can offer. Ed 2007 997 C4S
  2. RFM - Thanks for the quick answer. The voice of the Nav "Lady" is fine, I just wondered why the radio couldn't be muted/turned off when using the Nav system. Thanks again. Ed Oops - I just checked it again and it appears that if you "mute" the radio, it will stay muted until you touch the volume knob. Even after using Nav, Trip, etc, it will stay muted until fooling with the volume knob. Guess that's the answer! Thanks all. Ed

  4. This may be a foolish question, but I can't seem to find the answer in all of the Manuals. I have a 2007 C4S and can't figure out how to turn the radio off without turning off the entire PCM system? At times, I only want Nav without radio sound. When I "mute" the radio through the "Audio" menu and then go back to the Nav Map screen, the radio continues to play! Is this normal or am I missing a way to mute it or turn it off? Do I just have to turn the volume all the way down and live with it? - doesn't seem like the kind of thing the genius Teutonic engineers at Porsche would overlook. Either the PCM or I am out of kilter! Thanks for the help. Ed
  5. Here's "The Rest of the Story" - After checking with Porsche NA, measuring both the original wheel steering wheel and the new "thicker" wheel a zillion times and checking a new C4S on the Dealer's floor with the XPA option, I actually did, in fact, get the XPA option "thicker" wheel. The thicker wheel is only about 1.5cm thicker in circumference with softer leather and believe me, really not worth the extra cost. If I had known, I would have opted for the Porsche authorized Techart thicker wheel! Thanks to all of you for your help and sorry for wasting Forum space with this nonsense. Ed
  6. Loren: Maybe we've finally gotten to the bottom of this. If you're certain about the part number, what apparently happened is that they put a regular C4S wheel in the wrong box. All of the C4S' on the floor have this wheel and none of the stickers say "Sport Wheel Option", so this new one and mine must be the "standard" C4S wheel. I measured my original wheel and the one in the box and they're both 9.5mm in circumference, top and bottom. (and about 11mm at the 3/9 o'clock bolsters) Not "thick". I'll check further with the Dealer next week and post my results. Thanks for all of your assistance. By the way, you're right about the MSRP, it's outrageous. Ed
  7. Loren: Thanks again, but that's not the correct part number. That's the number that was on the box the new wheel came in, but it's the regular "sport wheel", same as the one that originally came with the car. Unless, of course, the "sport wheel" is actually the "Thicker" wheel and the one in the box was incorrectly packed. I'm attaching a pix of the label on the box and any further info you can dig up would be of help. Thanks. Ed
  8. Loren: Thanks for the reply. The wheel I'm interested in is listed as an option by Porsche (XPA, I think) and is designated "Thicker Steering Wheel". Attached is a picture showing the difference between "Sport" and "Thicker". Ed
  9. Sorry to waste everyone's tome and space on this Board with my Steering wheel problem, but does anyone have the Porsche part # for the "Thicker Steering Wheel"? Not the "Sport Wheel", that's what my 997 Carrera C4S came with. My Dealer can't seem to get it right and ordered the "Sport Wheel" for me - it's exactly what I now have. I'm having a difficult time trying to convince them of the difference, in spite of pictures, measurements, etc. Incredible, especially for a wheel that costs $1K plus. I would have done better buying a couple of hookers! Thanks guys. Ed
  10. BERTY987 Thanks for the quick reply, the measurements are very helpful. My 2007 C4S has a standard wheel with finger grips, but I wanted a thicker one and ordered the Porsche option to replace the wheel on the car. Unfortunately, it looks relatively the same to me (haven't measured it yet) and requested that the Parts department call Porsche to confirm that they shipped the right "Thicker Wheel", despite what the number on the box indicated. If they accurate, this was a lot of $$ for a miniscule difference. The pictures I've seen on the net of the Porsche factory "Thicker Wheel" really appear to be a substantially thicker wheel than standard and they all have the finger grips. I'll try to attach a comparison picture and hope I'm doing it correctly (If you can't see it I screwed up!). Thanks again. Ed
  11. Does anyone out there in Renntech land happen to know the circumference (taken at several different spots) of the rim of the Option XPA "Thicker Steering Wheel" for the 997? I just received one from Porsche parts and it appears to be the same as the original wheel on my C4S. Thanks. Ed
  12. Either blade on the fuse is hot. Ground goes to the chassis. Aft of the fuse box is a suitable nut for the ground. If you lack either tiptronic or the rear wiper, those fuse slots will do. Thanks, I appreciate the info. Ed
  13. After paying for the 997 C4S I have no more $$ left!! Great ride though and I must admit a lot better in all respects than the 1988 930S that I had since new. Thanks for the fuse info. Ed
  14. I want to hardwire my Passport to a switched fuse. Question (probably dumb, but I don't know the answer) - I've run and hidden the wires around the window/door molding, etc, but don't know how, or which side of the little flat fuses to run the hot and ground wires to. The car is a 2007 C4S and unfortunately I'm used to an older car with the glass tubular fuses. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Ed
