  1. Just to let you guys know that a loud squeaking noise that sounded as though it was coming from the rear cabin of the car was actually coming from the rear spoiler assembly. If I pushed down on the very top left of the spoiler on the rear deck lid, no sqeak, when I let it go, squeak. So, I just wanted to let folks know who would swear that the noise is coming from INSIDE the cabin that it may, in fact, not be, and that they may want to check the rear spoiler however unlikely it may seem given on where the sound seems to be coming from. [edit: the real culprit was finally identified--see my post below]
  2. This is an easy do it yourself project. There is a tech bulletin here in DIY Section: part 32/07 9110 navigation update to walk you through. You need one of the extra CD's to upgrade PCM to Level C if you are not there already and you just pop in new Map DVD. PM me with questions. Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out exactly which CD I need to upgrade to "Model Level A: 04202xxx" from "Standard version: 04035xxx". I'm old school (early 2005 with Version 1.0 software). I've done a bunch of searches and read through what I believe to be the relevant TSBs. My read of 9110 32/07 is that it refers you to "911000 Spare parts requirements for PCM2.1 and/or BOSE amplifier" to get to Model Level A. My read of that TSB is that I need CD part number "000.043.205.46.xxx". My dealer says he won't sell me the disk alone and that he needs to do the install, and, on top of that, that I need to buy a new NAV DVD in order to get the upgrade CD. I already have the new NAV DVD, but I can't find the upgrade CD on Ebay. Any idea what specific part number I need (which .xxx do I specify)? And where I can get it? Would Sunset be able to help? Also, my dealer just installed a new amp under warranty and it now as a warning mark beside it. From what I can gather on this Board, it really doesn't matter as long as the amp works. True? Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks guys. That's pretty much unanimous on the PS2s. I'll stick with them. Just a quick follow-up...my dealer is saying I should get snow tires for the winter. Would you recommend snows or all-seasons if I'm not going to be actually driving in much snow? I'm wondering what would give better cold weather, wet/dry performance.
  4. Gundo, did you have any luck with this? I'm thinking of picking up a set of wheels/tires with the TPMS system and was wondering whether any extra hardware (receiving modules, wiring, etc.) was needed, or whether PIWIS changes would do the trick. Thanks.
  5. Hi guys. I live in the Pacific Northwest and use the 997S to get to and from work (~ 50% highway, 50% city driving), and for some moderately-spirited weekend fun when dry (no tracking). I don't plan on driving it in the snow, which does not happen much where I live. Instead, we get a lot of rain. So I'm trying to decide whether to get a non-approved all-season tire (RE960AS) or an approved summer tire (PS2) and just drive much more carefully in the rain. I currently have PS2s that I will have to replace soon, but just got the car and haven't had a chance to test them through our "wet season" (which is pretty much all-year long except for a brief period in the summer). The trouble I'm having is that I've searched the threads here and elsewhere (and read websites like tirerack.com, etc.), but I can't seem to find a direct comparison of "Ultra High Performance All-Season" vs. a "Max Performance Summer" tires. I'm trying to understand, for example, how a 9.0 "wet performance" rating in one category would compare to another. I'm assuming the ratings differ across categories of tires on a relative basis? I'd love to see cross-category comparisons so I can see how much I'm sacrificing in each category. Bottom line is that I'd sacrifice some dry-weather performance for improved wet-weather performance. Will the RE960AS be significantly better than the PS2s in wet weather/resistance to hydroplaning? If so, will they then be significantly worse than the PS2s in dry weather handling? I'm not pushing the car to it's limits by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't want to end up with a car that doesn't handle like a "Porsche", because of the all-season tires, for the occasional times on dry pavement that I want it to. Any thoughts?
