Wish I could help but I never saw the parts or the sunroof when it was disassembled so I can't say. I know when I was exploring routing my Sirius antenna into the back of my Cayenne a kind wizard on the board sent me some exploded view drawings of the back end from a Porsche manual, perhaps someone has a similar doc for a 997-1 sunroof to help you out. That's a good idea. I found a link from Pelican Parts here: http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/origi...997_KATALOG.pdf, but my brain ain't so good with diagrams. From what I can gather though, I've been gumming up the wrong pieces. I've been putting the stuff between Part 1 and 7 on the sunroof diagram (Illustration 811). It looks like either part 7 is rattling internally or is bumping against part 9 (a different part number than yours, but from your description the same one?). If anyone figures out a DIY fix without needing parts, I'd love to hear your paint-by-numbers fix. I'll try a few more myself tonight...I'm beginning to wonder if it's the roofliner itself that is the issue (one of the parts replaced on yours). Thanks again Bob!

Hi Bob, not to be a pest, but you've helped me figure out my problem. I've had a very loud "slamming" noise happen everytime I go over a particular bridge in my daily commute (or other rough patches) while in PASM mode. I would have sworn it was coming from the suspension, but if I put the tip of my finger between the closed sunroof at the back, it instantly stops. I've been trying to do the "poor man's fix" since my car is not under warranty (little rubber sticky things between the sunroof and frame of the car), but I can't find the right spot to get it to stop. Is there any chance you could post a photo of the parts that are slamming together (assuming you know them)? Thanks!

I stopped by this thread because I took you literally! I thought you picked up new wheels!! I absolutely love them and have been looking (sort of casually) for a deal on the Sport Wheels for months. If you want to swap yours for my stock Carrera S' (plus cash), let me know! ;-) Or, better yet, your 2008 for my 2005?? Thanks. I bought an open kit from Ebay (serves me right, I know). The seller said he sent me exactly what he received from Porsche. He said the reason for selling was that he found the original NAV DVD from his car after buying the kit but because the kit was opened it could not be returned. It just didn't make sense that the NAV DVD would be dated 05.2006, when all the other disks were 08.2007 (consistent with the TSB), but you never know. The title of the Ad was for a "2008 PORSCHE 911 NAVIGATION DVD", with the body of the ad saying "This Navigation DVD is the most current version used in all 911 models", "This Nav. DVD can also update your older 05, 06 and 07 version to the 2008 version in few minutes" and "This is the 2008 updated maps, with all the new streets and point of interests (POI) and Restaurant and ETC information". The seller purchased the kit in May. As a longshot, could that somehow make a difference? Otherwise, I guess I could ask the seller to complain to Porsche about a mistake they made in packaging up the kit in an effort to get the correct 08.2007 disk?? Dear C_potato: Did you buy that from an eBay seller named losangelesporsche? I got taken from this guy... No, but my guy came through for me in the end after I complained (we swapped disks).

Thanks for the replys guys. Paul gave me the smack I needed. I was thinking of trying to save a few bucks given the global credit crisis, but with the price difference--% wise--I really wouldn't be saving anything. And I checked the Michelin website and the 295s are not rated for an 11.5 rim.

Hi, I'm thinking of picking up the Carrera Sport Wheels (11.5J x 19H2). The TSB says to put 305s on the year (I guess because of the 11.5" width vs. the 11" stock), but do I really need to do so? I've read on the web that different size tires can fit the same size rim? Any issues with putting the 295s on these wheels? Thanks in advance!

This can't be a good sign. When I turn the car on, it will now frequently say "System error: Amplifier, Navigation System not available." If I kill the ignition and start it up again, it seems to work the second time (although this behaviour just started this morning). Unfortunately, the car is no longer under warranty. Any idea if this is a simple software fix at the dealer or is the Amp/Nav hardware failing? Thanks

Good idea going straight to the horse phlevin (I even tried ordering them from Sunset Imports--which I love dealing with--but they didn't show them as being available). I suppose because the Nokians are not a common brand in the US, their distribution channels are not as extensive as other tire manufacturers. I ended up ordering them from tiresbyweb.com (Josh was great to deal with over there and the prices were very good). From my credit card statement, it looks as though tiresbyweb is really "TIRE FACTORY OUTLET IN - OWOSSO, MI". It's very strange, but 4 local Tirefactory stores weren't showing the "WR N0's" as being available, only the "WR G2's", which aren't Porsche specified and don't come in the necessary rear sizes. And, truth be told, ALL the local Tirefactory stores were less than helpful (no return phone calls, no offer to call the manufacturer/distributor, etc.). So I'm having them shipped to, and installed at, my (sort of local) Discount Tire store, which just installed a set of tires on my wife's SUV. One upside to the Nokians vs. the Sottozero's that I had not appreciated--if you're in a climate like I am that can get some milder winters--is that even though they are winter rated, they are an all season tire and so should wear better in higher temperatures. Anyway, bottom line is Josh from tiresbyweb is the guy to go to for the Nokians. EDIT: To clarify, I just confirmed that there is no relationship between Tirefactory.com and Tiresbyweb.com (also Tirefactory.net). I know it's early in the season, but I wanted to make sure I had winter tires. The Nokians are actually better than I thought they would be in dry weather. Road noise is less than the PS2s (at least worn down PS2s) and handling is really quite good. Not quite the "driving on rails" feeling of the PS2s in 65 degree dry weather, but way better than I imaged for a winter tire! Anyway, just wanted to leave a parting "plug" for Nokian and Tiresbyweb.com (no affiliation with either).

The Nokian tyres are actually very good winter tyres. Very good grip and quite stable even at high speed on dry tarmac. Much better than the recommended Michelin Alpin. You should ask for these specs: WR 295/30 R19 100V XL N0 WR 235/35 R19 87V N0 They are very easy to get in Europe. Just spoke to Tirerack (the official Porsche North American tire supplier), even though the Nokians are not listed on their website. Apparently, there has been a significantly scaled back production run this year and all available stock is going straight to the dealers.

I know this sounds a little lame, but I cannot find a store where I can buy the 19" Nokian WR tires that are approved for a Carrera S (as set out in the TSB). I am looking for anywhere in the Pacific Northwest (Seattleish area). From the Nokian website, it looks like Tirefactory is the exclusive distributor in this area. But I have called 4 of their stores and not one has known what I'm talking about (which makes me think the tires are not in their computers). They can find the fronts in the "WR G2" model, but not the rears (because they don't come in 295 for the "WR all weather plus"). Anyone know something I don't? Where can I buy these from? PS: They don't appear to be sold online either.

I was in essentially the same boat as you (other than the new GT3 part!). I'm not sure about your software version, but I would bet dollars to donuts you are at Level C. And if you read the Bulletin as many times as I did ;-), you would have noticed that "If the display shows Model Level B (05024xxx) [NOTE: NOT C], only the navigation module needs to be updated." I'm guessing Level C already has the updated navigation software and no update is required. To close the loop on my earlier message, I did not put the 08.2007 Navigation Update CD [000.044.901.40] into the DVD drive. Since the new NAV DVD works fine, obviously, as Berty suspected, the NAV software had been updated via the files on the 05.2006 DVD [although, somewhat oddly, it did ask if I wanted to Update the Navigation Software when I inserted the 08.2007 Navigation DVD into the DVD Drive--and my Navigation software version is now: 00179436 / 3306]. I would bet if you simply put the new NAV DVD in the drive, it will ask if you want to Update the Navigation Software and then you will be good to go. And no "update" CDs will be required.
