  1. Just checking that my vaccuum hoses are hooked up OK....I get full vacuum at idle on my advance line and as I load up the engine the vaccuum decreases. I am going to check the timing tommorrow to verify that the decreasing vacuum does in fact advance the timing as it is a little bizarre to me. The problem I am getting is that the engine lopes along when running along at a constant speed kind of like a chugging feeling. It also back fires out the exhaust in neutral and if I hammer it and let off. The wires are old as well as the plugs so I plan to replace these as well. I bought a new cap and rotor (with a spring activated cutout) and put them in. The other thing that I notice is that when I loosen the distributor clamp down bolt and just gently bump the distributor, the engine dies and there sounds like alot of arcing is going on inside the distributor....
  2. Hey Brother Not sure if you figured this out yet but I just had the same thing happen to me...very scary. I was thinking that I broke a ring or something and I closed the hood for the night and went inside very dismayed....thinking "how could I screw up on an oil change" I looked in the air box and saw oil the next day. I rechecked the oil and found the reservoir empty even though I had added 10 quarts (liters up here) for the oil change the day before. I added enouigh to get a reading on the dipstick and started the engine. It warmed up until oil started pouring into the intake box again. This time several pints poured in until I shutdown the engine. To get the level right, I drained out pretty much the same as I had readded. This time I ran it again with the cap off the reservoir and ran it until I could see oil circulating down the fill tube (with a flashlight). I put everything back together and it ran good and without smoke. In hind sight, I think that you have to consider that everything get drained out in an oil change.,,the reservoir, the crankcase, the filter, the heat exchanger etc. To get this stuff all full again takes some time. I had the best success when I ran it until it warmed up with the cap off the reservoir and continuously checking the level. I agree with the other reply that I think that when you overfill the reservoir, the oil spills over into the intake box but if you just add all the requried oil in in one shot, you will likely see this same thing....
