  1. free! You can do it inside 5 minutes. Your manual shows how. Basic turn of a special tool, light slides out, new light goes in, turn tool back to lock light in place. DONE!
  2. OUCH! I was afraid of that. Looks like I will go with the Euro M030 for $1K. Once again, great info. Cheers, Dell
  3. Loren, one other question. Is RoWM030 the only choice I have to upgrade the car with factory parts? I know the X74 is for 02+, but just wanted to make sure I have no other options to weigh. Cheers, Dell
  4. I cannot answer your first question but $2400 is ludicrous. I did mine without the stalk for about $50 (swithc on the dash). If you want the stalk instead of the switch, then talk to ToolPants. He has done numerous OBC retrofits and can tell you the cost. I would say less than $500 but dont' quote me.
  5. The oil extractor is a great thing but I only use it in my MB b/c that is what MB reccommends b/c of the placement of the plug (oil will get on vital parts). As for the porsche, the oil change DIY is so easy that it would be MORE work to do the oil extractor.
  6. Sorry, 6-speed.
  7. Just wanted to verify what I was told: Euro (RoW) M030: 000 044 500 15 I just want to make sure this is NOT the US ride height since the US 030 doesn't lower the car at all and the Euro is 20MM front and 10MM rear. Thanks, Dell (2000 996CAB)
  8. There was a thread about this recently (with pictures and all) so you might want to do a search on the topic. If I am not mistaken the crest is bolted to the bag so it does not fly at you when it deploys.
  9. defrost?
  10. No wheels:) Looks like it is resting on the ground!
  11. This has been asked many times. Do a search here and as well over at rennlist.com in the 996 forum. You will find more threads that you probably care to read :) Good Luck with your purchase and welcome to the board.
  12. George, sorry to take so long to get back to you. Just PM or email me in the future since I didn't get an email notification on this thread. As for the switch, it was covered under warranty so I wouldn't know what they would have charged. However, this would have been a fairly simple DIY since I have already mastered the art of removing the rear center console :) WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! Cheers, Dell
  13. And 1095 isn't the right price? You are kidding right? I bought mine from B-Wine for 1095 shipped. If you get shipping included then you did fantastic at 1095. Their list is about 1900 and cost about 1200. As Jeff said, these are normally sold as a loss leader which helps garner more business. FYI....You'll pay upwards (if not more) of 1K on eBay for litronics. Best of luck though.
  14. Myy apologies :) Very valid point. I am very interested to see the "road ahead" for Porsche.
  15. How do you mean it makes sense to you? ....That Porsche should produce a $50K car that has performance numbers that rival (or exceed) the 911 so that the lower price rung buyers will bite? Not sure I follow your logic.
  16. I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. Like most, I will just wait till the official word is released from PAG. Speculation and assumption is not a very valid game.
  17. Sure miss it. Not particularly liking the LV desert. Only 1.5 years left.
  18. Schwweeeetttt!!!! Ivan, are you down in Alamo Heights? Looks very familiar to me. Lived in SA for 23 years.
  19. The A/S is the paint color Porsche uses for the aluminum look pieces. Just a suggestion, I would buy the A/S center console and sell your current one rather than paint it. It is quite large to take on yourself. That is something left to the professionals. The smaller pieces are much easier though. PM me if you are interested in where I bought my A/S center, etc.
  20. Sunset in Oregon will get you dealer cost + 15% if not you can go used on eBay (usually do not come with the airbag though). FYI....Sunset is the link at the top of the page (porsche parts at dealer cost).
  21. What was not nice? I think after 5 posts you are not entitled to become the ad hoc admin for this forum. Hang around a bit longer and get a feel for the flow of the threads and then chime in.
  22. I guess you don't know what "trim" means. Trim identifies the level which is inclusive but not limited to the items that are specific to the that model (i.e., suspension, engine, etc.)
  23. 986 is the Porsche designation for Boxster through 2004. 987 is the designation for the all new 2005 Boxster. The S is just the trim level. YOu can have a 986 or a 986S. Or with the 2005 you can have a 987 or a 987S. Hope this helps.
  24. correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't you have matching tires front AND rear. I don't think it is reccomended to have differing tread patterns on the front than on the rear. Personally I would order the same tires for the rear and then the next change will probably be in line for all 4 when you can swithc to a new marque.
  25. So I have been following this post over on my mercedes web forum and the thread talks about too frequent intervals between oil changes. They even posted some independent guys "research" into this and that the frequent changes can actually HURT the engine. I checked the Mobil1 site and can't find a thing. I am not going to follow the 12K mile interval reccomendation (frankly I think that is TOO long an interval). This is reccomended for both P-cars and MB's. I do a 5K interval and wondered if anybody has info that can support or debunk any claims that freqent changes can hurt the motor. I just can't understand how a frequent oil change could actually hurt the motor. If that was the case we would be putting in used oil into our cars instead of fresh oil and filters! Some people do 3K changes, some 5K, some 8K, and some 10K plus. I am sure up to about 8K is the best. Anybody want to chime in on this?
