  1. Not sure what you mean by "cheaper than the dealer". Parts at cost +15% is the best you can get short of being a dealer. If there are parts cheaper than the dealer then PNCA and PAG are overcharging the dealer and selling to suppliers cheaper? Not sure I agree with that. Use Loren's advice to buy from Sunset Imports....they are top notch with great customer service and some of the best prices you can find. The only way to get parts cheaper than the dealer is when an odd part is WAY overstocked and they just wanted to unload it.
  2. Thanks Kevin! Great tip......I would love to see the pics. Dell
  3. 3 "legit" options: 1. Carrera 2. 911 3. 996 And I agree with Tony and Azura...DO NOT put the GT3 badge. Think about it this way.....what od you think about the MB owners that put E55 AMG on their E430?
  4. Thanks Loren. Do I need anything else like new sensors, etc.? Or....can I just use the ones I have on the car right now?
  5. Loren, What are the part numbers for the BoxsterS red brakes. I think I am going to order them for my 996. They are a direct fit correct? All I need to order is the 2 front and 2 rear calipers correct??? Thanks again for all your help! Dell
  6. Thanks Jeff, I got an email from Sandy earlier that explains that. I guess I got a bit confused on the previous post. Dell
  7. I can't beleive how many "unknowledgeable" parts dept guys there are! Your best bet is online or Sunset in Oregon for parts. Dell
  8. Wow! Sandy that was extremely thorough. And very much appreciated. However, I am using the spoiler switch for the spoiler specifically and the FWL swithc for the OBC hack. I raise/lower my spoiler with the TT spoiler switch and did a mod to get it to light up as well (just tapped into the outside pins of the cab top switch and ran those splices into the outside pins (#3 and #5) of the TT switch to get night illumination with the parking lights on. What would I need to do to get the FWL switch to illuminate when I turn the parking lights on? It looks like my door lock switch is the same type of switch as well as the defroster switch-----are one of those 2 switches ones I can tap into to use for night illumination? Hopefully I am making sense. Thanks again for all you input! Dell
  9. No problem. Let us know how it goes! Dell
  10. Yes you do need the tool to remove the cover.
  11. It is a Boxster (see his reply above the picture). Also, that IS NOT the oil filter, rather it is the filter cover that you need to remove with the filter wrench remover. The actual filter is a cartridge that slides off/on underneath it.
  12. Do you currently have a certified car that you bought or thinking about buying one? If you have one then you should have gotten a packet in the mail similar to the picture I have attached. If you are looking at purchasing, then you need to sit down with the dealer to ask those questions.
  13. Do a forum search......I have seen a picture posted several times.
  14. Just keep a positive outlook, things can ONLY get better. A few words of wisdom though. Change your signature to show what you are proud to own not what is the problems with ownership (I see you have already taken the old lady out of the signature). Get the problems fixed and if a P-Car is what you want to own, sell it and purchase a new one (or a certified/warranty) for worry-free ownership. Best of luck and happy motoring! Dell
  15. I think I am with Corey on this one. By the way, what does the old lady reference in your signature mean? Is that for real or a joke? If it is for real, do you honestly believe that? And if you beleive that, what bearing does that have? I would say worse since I would not trust some "old lady" to maintain a P-Car properly. I saw this post over on the Rennlist board and while I sympathize with you, there is some point in time that you have to realize that "stuff" happens over time to a car and this falls into you have "to pay if you want to play". But, with all that said, I would definately try another dealer and start fresh. That may be your remedy. It could very well be the dealer. Just remember, you are NOT the original owner and will NEVER know how it was treated, maintained, etc., etc., etc., no matter how much "paperwork" and "documentation" you have. Please don't take this as an attack at you but rather a reality check since these boards are for technical help, etc., and an invaluable resource to help YOU (or point you in the right way) fix your car and advice not to see "who can claim to have to WORST car". ps. with regards to your class lawsuit idea......you already have the strongest action you can give Porsche....it's called don't buy their product. It amazes me the number of people (albeit very small) that just complain and complain yet still own this "car" that is such a sore spot for them. Not sure I quite understand.
  16. Pretty car...but not sure what you mean by your PS request. You can create a "register" for your car in the "garage" section. That is a great backdrop for the car with the ocean and the sun. Nothing like that here in Las Vegas!
  17. Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday......I didn't get an email notification about the post. Anyway, I just placed an order with Phil at Sunset yesterday and the price of the oil filter went up $2 (all Phil could explain was that Porsche changed the part number). How that equates with a price increase is beyond me...but then again I wouldn't understand most of the fuzzy pricing Porsche does. I am looking at my last invoice and I paid 15.17 for the wrench and .15 for the seal (gasket) As for the time to change the oil I pushed about 45 minutes. But, I totally took my time. I let it drain till I just about saw nothing left come out. I would suggest getting a torque wrench so you don't under/over tighten the drain plug (I did and stripped it). But then again this was my first and now I am totally confident and would NEVER pay anybody to do it. Plus my wife thinks I am pretty talented since I can change oil. Never understood that but I will ride that wave as far as it takes me! Good luck with the oil change. Happy Motoring, :drive: Dell
  18. That's what I figured. I guess I will leave it dark. Thanks for the insight though Berny. Dell
  19. Thanks you!!! Great Ride
  20. I second that Berny! We need to find a hack that makes the tail go down with 1 touch instead of holding it down (I usually count 5 slowly). Dell
  21. Just did my first DIY oil change and I didn't do it to save money necessarily (even though I would NEVER pay the dealer price of $300 for the oil change) did it more for the "hey, I did it myseslf" factor :): 9 qts of 0W-40 Mobil1 ($45-50) Filter $10 from sunset in Oregeon Filter Tool $15 from sunset. First Oil Change $75 Next and all subsequent $60 Not paying the dealer $300 and doing it myself: priceless. I know,,,,,,I know,,,,how corny could I be? Couldn't resisit since it popped into my head as I saw how my post was looking. Dell
  22. As AZURA said, I am pretty sure (99%) that when you raise the spoiler with the button, it will NOT go back down until you use the button to lower the spoiler. I learned this in a way similar to what you are asking.....I wanted it to raise when I was on the highway but never got to hit 75 so I raised it at 55 and when I got home......STILL UP! I have noticed that if I manually raise it AND then go over 75 it will lower itself since it was tripped at 75. Hope this helps. Besides, why would you want that thing up ALL the time (i.e., when it is parked, etc.)???
  23. Oh my Lord! Even with DSL I am having a heck of a time opeing the Renntech page, please make them smaller! Great pics by the way :)
