  1. To confirm: passenger side? I thought that the only major electrical junction under the cowl was driver side. Finally, "remove the DME" - I do not know what you mean, but I assume you are referring to the fuse box that is at that location (that the PSM unit is beneath that).

    Yes the DME and PSM control unit are on teh passenger side. If you lift up the cowl on that side you will first see the DME. If you remove this you will see the PSM control unit underneath. The PSM control unit is integral with the ABS hydraulic unit. This is all assuming you have a LHD car...

  2. There is no pump for the tank vent system. What you are likely hearing is the tank vent purge cycle. The DME opens the tank vent purge valve which allows engine vacuum to pull the vapor out of the carbon canister. When the fresh air valve (which is part of your ORVR system) sticks open you will hear this noise during the purge cycle. Having this valve stuck open will not cause a check engine light or any other problem. The hole that you are putting your finger over is connected to the fresh air valve of your ORVR system which is why putting your finger over it changes the sound.

  3. In order to have the correct amount of oil in the transmission you need to fill it until fluid emerges from the fill hole when the fluid is 40C. So really you need a durametric or equivalent to do it like Porsche wants. You can change probably over 80% of the fluid without opening the cooler lines. The fill process gets more complicated if you open the cooler lines as well.

  4. My rear cup holder won't stay closed. I am guessing it's broken and can't be fixed. Does anyone know how to remove and replace it? Just want to make sure I don't break anything else.

    Pull out the cubby that's right above it. You can just pull it straight out, a small screwdriver will help you pry it out. Once that's out there are two spring clips on top that hold it in, one on each side. Press the springs down and pull the cupholder out. Cheers if you can figure out how to fix it.

  5. 0937 fault is a garbage fault, thats probably in every Cayenne out on the road. As for your brake booster faulty warning that is a real fault and will need to be diagnosed. An old battery will cause some random faults in these cars but I've never seen it throw one of these. A few things to check before spending any money... Check the operation of the electrical vacuum pump and see if you have any vacuum leaks in the lines running to the booster.

  6. If it were me.... I wouldn't bother with the coil until it actually gives you problems. It might be sooner than later but it also might never act up. They're not cheap.

    These coil packs are actually cheaper than most of my other cars, Aren't they around $40-50ea ?

    I thought they were around 80 but I could be wrong.

  7. I just bought a 00 Boxster S and I am trying to figure out if a noise is normal or if it is a problem. The noise is coming form under the fuel lid and it sounds like a air compressor or some kind of pump. I found a hole on the front side of the fuel compartment under the fuel lid, when I put my finger in the hole the noise stops. Does any one know what this is and what the hole is for. Please help

    Check your ORVR valves, you likely have one stuck open.

  8. Your struts have nothing to do with the your ride height. That's your springs. The springs hold up the weight of the car, the struts dampen the oscillations from the springs.

    Removing the struts on a C2 is quite a bit easier than on C4 so both you guys are lucky on that front. You can remove the struts without any special tools really. Most of the nuts and bolts are either 13mm, 16mm or 18mm with the exception of the axle nuts on the rear, which is a 32mm. You'll also need a 10mm allen to loosen the brake calipers. A ball joint removal tool is handy for removing the control arms from the wheel carriers. Once you get the struts out of the car you will need a spring compressor tool to compress the spring for safe disassembly of the strut.

    I'm not a race guy but I don't think its possible to corner balance a McPherson strut setup, only coil-over type suspensions. It is possible to replace a rear strut without loosening any alignment eccentrics but I would recommend any alignment anyways.

  9. New coolant is going to look different than coolant that has been ran. I would look under the carpet in your rear trunk and check for coolant leaking from your coolant tank. Coolant from a leaking coolant tank can pool up in the under the carpet and escape from rubber plugs in the trunk compartment and end up in that same area.

  10. I replaced the vent valve on the motor and reset the error codes, oil change next

    I would also search in the direction of the purge flow, due the P0441 fault code, to start with. Do an oil change with approved oil (0W - 40 or 5W - 50) as Dennis suggest, you never know.

    That sounds like a good plan. The tank vent valve is a common failure and almost always the cause of P0441 and/or hard starting after fill ups.
