  1. You're correct-the lighter is not hot with the ignition off on the SL500. I have the battery alligator clip attachhment for the Porsche battery maitainer but I can't figure out how to attach the clips' connector to the cigarette lighter connection on the battery maintainer? Could you please help me on how to attach the alligator clip cable to the battery maintainer? Thank you! John :D
  2. Does any one know if the Porsche battery maintainer can be safely used on a 2006 Mercedes SL500? If so, does the cigarette connection work or does it have to be connected via the alligator clips directly to the alligator clips in the Mercedes? Thanks, John
  3. I just saw on Bloomberg TV an announcement That Porsche was recalling 18,000+ 911 cabs for the top raising/lowering mechanism. Does anyone know the details (year, VIN numbers, etc.)? Thanks! John
  4. Loren, do you mean 1.33 qt is the difference between the upper and lower grooves or between the upper dot and the upper groove? Thanks again, John :D
  5. The dipstick on my 2003 C4S has an upper and lower groove with a dot outside each of the grooves. Should the oil be filled to between the grooves or between the dots? My dealer always fills the oil to the level of the top dot which is slightly above the upper groove and I'm thinking this might be a little too much oil-is my analysis correct? Anybody know the volume difference between the upper dot and upper groove in case I need to drain some oil out? I wish the Porsche owner's manual had more specific information on the simple stuff! :soapbox: Thanks, John
  6. Recently, I changed the sidelights on my 996 C4S from U.S. amber/white light to European clear/amber light. Only after changing the bulbs did I see in the owner's manual never to touch the bulbs with bare hands to prevent any grease on the bulbs. My questions are: 1. What is the worse case scenario if I did get fingerprints on the bulb? 2. Can anything be damaged? 3. Should I preemtively replace the current amber bulb with a new one being very careful only not to handle the bulb with my bare hand? 4. Does anyone have the part number for replacement amber side light bulbs? Thank you for your help! John
  7. Loren, how difficult is the replacement of the ignition switch-does anything need to be torn apart or does it come out easily? Thanks again, John
  8. I'm having intermittent trouble starting my 2003 996 cab. Sometimes. but not all the time, when I try to start my cab (by turning the key all the way to the right, of course) nothing happens-no cranking, nothing. I must go through two or three cycles of returning the key all the way to the left and try starting again in order to get the car to crank. Like I said above the problem is intermittent and only occurs about 25% of the time. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks, John :help:
  9. Could someone please explain what the 997's Active Brake Differential (ABD), Traction Control (ASR) offer above the PSM available on the 996? Are these improvements or cost cutting measures? Thanks, John
  10. We'll my 2003 Cab is going in for the seats to be replaced as part of the recall on Wednesday. How difficult is it to remove/replace the seats? Should I be concerned? Thanks! John :drive:
  11. I heard the seat recall is now going on. Do you have any information on what needs to be replaced (complete seat including leather or just an interior part?). Also, have you heard what seats need to be replaced (power vs. manual, sport vs. regular, etc.). Thanks! John :help:
  12. My 2003 996 had approximately 100 miles on the odometer when I bought the car new from the dealership. I was wondering if an over rev (the kind resulting from shifting into a lower gear at too high a speed) had occurred on the car prior to my purchase if I would be able to prove that by a date stamp (or mileage stamp) in the car's computer? Otherwise, although I have only put less than 50 miles driving the car home to date, Porsche could always argue I was at fault and not honor a future warranty claim. Any insight as to what additional data is tracked in the car's computer along with an over-rev incident would be greatly appreciated. John
  13. Does it apply to sport seats, standard seats, etc. Thanks for any insight, John
  14. Does anyone know what code(s) need to be programmed into the computer of a 2003 996 C2 Cab in order to allow one to open and close the cab top with the key remote (like is possible with cabs in Europe)? Thank you in advance for your help! :clapping: Best regards, John
  15. Does anyone know what this recall is about and what cars are affected? "TSB Number: 5/03 TSB Title Campaign - Key Remote Control Replacement Issue Date: JUN 03 " Thanks, John
