  1. JoeA,

I have had both a C4S and a C2S, both driven in winter snow. I got a 996 C4S, with your exact thoughts in mind, to have a daily year round driver, the AWD was great, then I had the opportunity to get a 997 C2S, which I still have, and with which I have just completed my 3rd winter. I have not seen any difference with the 2 wheel drive car, over the 4 wheel drive. They both had Pirelli winter tires, which have performed well. Given your choice I would go for the newer car with less miles, the thing to think about is the aero kit in the snow and ground clearance, otherwise go for the 2007.

Good luck and enjoy your new cars.

  2. Ok guys, here is my quandry. I am trying to decide between a 2006 C4S in Atlas Grey, Tiptronic, Sports Chrono, Nav, Which looks ok, but I would want to modify with a different set of Rims, possible facelift with AeroKit, PSE 48k miles with CPO. or 2007 C2S (also CPO) Manual has the Aerokit, has the nice RIMS, still does not have PSE. I intend to use the car year round, yes even in the snow, however, I am told the difference with a C2 and C4 with Snow Tires would be negligible. So - is the C4S a year older has the additional 10k more in miles over the C2, worth the AWD? Any advice would be appreciated. I currently own a 99 C2.

  3. Unless someone swapped out the original it should be PCM 2.1.

    How are you checking it?

Have you done the firmware updates?

I had the dealer check the software, it is 2.1. I have been lead to believe that the dispaly head i need, to make my SAT radio project work, has a TEL button on the bottom and a SOS button on the top, and that the AM/FM function button is combined into one. My PCM has none of these features, it has and ORG button on the bottom and no button on top except the disk eject button. Regarding updates, I have done the NAV map update, andas I said the dealer computer review said I have 2.1 software.

I purchased the car from a dealer, and had NAV added before delivery, perhaps they swapped the PCM.

I am open to suggestions, before spending $ for the 2.1 PCM.

  4. I have a 2005 C2S, I have 75K, and it is going strong. I stay on top of the maintenance and away we go. I had two earlier Carrera' but I keep them boxed and shined. I love this care and drive it everyday. I would suggest that if you find one have it thoroughly checked. I put 60K of the 75K.

    Enjoy

    Hi All,

I was wondering for those of you with high mileage 997's (say, >75K miles), how are they faring? Do any of you have one over 100K miles yet?

As the current owner of a 01 CLK430 that i've put 160K miles on over the past 10 years with almost no problems (outside of normal maintenance items), and someone who is considering a used 997 with maybe 50-60K miles, how have your high mileage 997s been doing?

  5. I purchased a 2005 C2 equipped as your 07 is. I had the OEM nav added at the dealer. The lack of a touch screen has not been a problem for me, the system does not seem slow compared to other vehicles I have driven with integral nav. Like any new system, at first it took some getting use to. I like the built in, as opposed to the "stuck on". In my previous 911's, I had the talking Garmin, but never again. The Porsche folks are slow to change, but I contend ity is because they seek to do the best job for the car. As you can tell I am partial.

    Just one person's view.

I just became a Porsche owner :D I bought a 2007 Porsche 911 C4S Coupe that came equiped with PCM2.1 with CD changer and telephone module; however, I recently discovered that it doesn't include the NAV system (no DVD drive in the trunk). Now, a few 911 owners that I know who have used the NAV system from Porsche claim that it isn't very user friendly, not touchscreen, a little slow, and not always very quick on calculating routes. I'm looking for some feedback from other 911 owners who have had the factory NAV and replaced it with a 3rd party unit or simply added a TomTom (or other hanheld GPS).

My car is a CPO car and I'm not interested in replacing out the factory CD/Stereo unit at this time as it will void the warranty coverage on the car; however, I would still like to know what other users think of the factory NAV (when updated to the latest version). Thanks to all.

On a side note, I'm trying to confirm if my PCM system is updated to the latest software/firmware:

    PCM: 05395BD1/4505 (Model C - I believe)

    System Soft: 05462AD1/4605

    Amplifier: 00017600/3105

    CD Changer: C38/3003

If it matters, the car includes the Bose Surround System as well. While I have spent the better part of a month researching on RennTech for most of the information I needed, I would appreciate any clarification one can provide on these outstanding questions I have, thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

  6. Hi all,

Just wanted to know if there was anyone else who had this fitted, as mine has packed up and has taken the navigation stuff with it, being on the MOST loop. I sent the product back to NAV TV who allegedly upgraded the software, however it still doesn't work properly. (Reports no Ipod, no way of controlling from PCM). I am thinking of binning it and getting a Mostbridge, but first I'd like to know if it is worth them replacing it as they have offered, or go down the refund route.

Does anyone have positive experiences with this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam

  7. What is the nominal/normal engine oil temp for the 2005 911 2S? I have had this car for just over a a year. Until just recently the engine oil temp has held steady at about 190-200. Now it seems to be creeping up, on a couple of occasions as high as 225. The ambient air temp is in the range of 83 - 90 degrees F.. Last year with similar ambient the temp stayed in the 190 - 200 range. I have checked to insure that the air inlets in th e lower fascia ate free of leaves or other trash. Should I be concerned?
