  1. The right rear caliper is not operating properly and appears to be stuck ie disk is not shiney like the others. Otherwise the brakes seem fine Please describe a fix. Thanks

Tap the sticky caliper with a mallet, if it doesn't start functioning correctly a caliper re-build may be in order. If the car has been idle

for a bit, that could explain the issue.

  2. Leave a storage bin open or change-out your OEM radio! :)

Mystery solved. I was wondering why people were asking about beeping. Mine always beeped, but now I realize that was due to the third party radio that was installed when I bought the car.

Bolobar, I think you can fix this with a (get ready for this!!!!!)..............

    a piece of tape!

Send ToolPants a PM for advice.

I think this was meant for the Timbo, the OP.

Would that piece of tape be meant for one of the two IR sensors by the rear view mirror?

  3. Hello,

    Has anybody experienced the following?

    Specs.

    Boxter 1999

    Tiptronic 5spd

    2.5L

    USA car.

Here is the question, When starting the car and putting my foot on the brake pedal to engage the automatic mode I can see the transmission going to 1st speed. ( hence the light on dashboard ) But as soon as my foot is off the brake pedal it automatically advances to the 2nd gear. Continuing the drive and braking to a complete stop will not return to 1st speed. The Transmission will not go back to 1st speed until I power down completly and remove the key... Can anybody refer me to a troubleshooting proceedure or should i bring the car in to the dealer?

Thanks ahead of time for your time.

    Knickknack.

Have you tried using the buttons on the wheel to manually get it back into first?? If that shifts it back into first everything is fine.

As the other chap mentioned, the car starts in second, unless you stomp the pedal for a fast take-off. Then it automatically shifts

    into first gear.

Sounds normal to me, but check the buttons for the first gear overide to be sure.

  4. As mikefocke mentioned once before,,,

There is a UK company that could replace with 05 997 larger bearing, larger effective seal.

    http://www.autofarm.co.uk/engines/water_cooled/shaft_tech

There is a bearing on the end of the shaft. I have been told Porsche went from a double to a single bearing. I was told the year but forget - I think 2001. This is why you seldom hear of intermediate shaft failures on the older cars.

    Picture is a 2003 2.7.

    post-6728-1216512921_thumb.jpg

TP, can the bearing be removed from the case and shaft from behind that cover? Thanks.

Usually there is a lot more damage than just the bearing (a whole lot more).

I was wondering if it could be replaced before failure. According to Tool Pants, guess not. Thanks.

I thought I read that there was a change on the 2.7 engines starting in 2004. Was it the bearing being upgraded??

  5. I purchased a 2004 Boxster from a dealership recently with 29k on it. I am suprised (yeah I know) that they

didn't mention I would need the 30k service to keep the warranty in effect. Does anyone know what the dealer will do for the

1k they say it could cost. Is the estimate they gave me sound about right.

I plan on a diplomatic negotiation for a discount on the service, but seeing how they somehow forgot to mention it when I purchased

the vehicle I am somewhat leery.

Any advise to this new Porsche owner would be greatly appreciated. :thankyou:

  6. I can't seem to find one locally, unless I know the author.

Would anyone here be able to help me locate a Bentley manual??

    I like to tinker. :)

    Beelzy:

You can get the Bentley manual at Amazon.com. Price is reasonable.

    Regards, Maurice.

Many thanks for the quick response. I will check it out right now. :renntech:
