  1. I replaced my heater core. It's now full of air and not coolant, the manual says to perform a coolant bleed procedure which seems straight forward enough. I have been told on other forums that its "imperative" that I use a vacuum tool. Given the relatively small amount of air, can't I just perform the bleed procedure without any worries of cracked heads etc? Just want a backup on this considering thats what the manual suggests.
  2. I'm in the process of replacing my evaporator and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on getting the A/C unit out AFTER the dash is removed (which I'ved done). Where exactly does it connect to the car? What do I need to remove, I have the factory manual but it doesnt seem detailed enough
  3. Yes, I have(had) fingers protruding from my contact ring. That's the same part. I'll go ahead and order another one. As you say, there is no sense in jeopardizing safety over 100 bucks. Question is: what is involved in "re-setting" these things? How will I know if this unit is ready to install or needs some type of calibration as written on the unit itself?
  4. I am removing my dashboard and had to use quite a bit of force to remove my steering wheel. In so doing, I snapped the little protruding fingers from the airbag ring. I still have one of the fingers and can epoxy it on, the other one snapped off completely. How much are these suckers? Is this something that is so precise that my jury-rigged epoxy fingers wouldnt work? Thanks
  5. thanks for the replys. I suspected the throw out bearing and not something more grave myself considering the noises started immediately after a new engine install and had never been there before. It's a standard dual mass FW.
  6. Rather frequently (but not always), I come to a stop, put it in neutral and let out the clutch and I can hear a marked "dry bearing" or "marbles rubbing together" noise from what seems like right below the center console storage box. If the clutch is depressed it completely disappears. If I quickly press it in and let it out, the sound sometimes goes away. It doesn't always happen, sometimes the tranny is dead quite. I recently (< 3000 miles ago) had a new engine, clutch, and flywheel installed. This sound never occured before. Perhaps throw out, clutch alignment, etc? My mechanic supposedly heard the noise and said it was typical gear noise, suggested an oil flush. Anybody have gear noises disappear after a tranny oil flush? Any ideas or experiences welcome. Thanks
  7. Be careful. I started my engine and had copious amounts of white smoke, water had been sucked from my brake booster into the engine. Bent a rod in fact. White smoke is indicative of either water or coolant. If it "smells sweet", its coolant i.e. likely a cracked head or cylinder. If its water, likely from the booster or a small amount that got through the intake. The best thing you can do is pull out one/all the plugs and see if anything drains out, then determine what it is.
  8. I have searched in the TSB's and DIY's and haven't found any instructions for how to replace the outer sunroof rubber/felt seal. I am ordering part 996 564 211 01 for reference. Any suggestions?
  9. I had a significant amount of water collecting on my driver's side rear seat. I took out my entire right rear interior to track down the source. Please let me know what these are. What is the black line in the first image? Is the second tan line my rear sunroof drain? Sould it have that kink in it? It looks like it was kinked in manufacture by a heat stamp (i.e. factory) Thanks
