  1. Hey folk, The other day my boxster became a very rough sounding and hesitatent thing. I plugged in the fault finder and turns out that cylinder 2 is mis-firing. Am planning on replacing the ignition coil but i am a bit unsure where cylinder 2 is? is cylinders 123 on the left hand side or right? and does anyone know if this is a tricky job for an non diy person like myself? does anyone know of any instructions on the internet for this job? many thanks
  2. hey folk, Your advice was spot on. It was item number 8 (lower fork arm) which had a worn bush but because its in a hard place to get to it was hard to tell it was worn until we got it removed fro the car. So thank very much for all your help !! gordon
  3. Hi all and thanks for your kind advice. I have now ordered item number 8 and should have it anytime now. Fingers cross it solves my problem cause it seems every little problem turns out to be a nightmare to fix with the boxster, but hey you've got to love it!! I'll keep you's posted on the outcome. Any issue i have is a vibration coming from the rear when sitting at around 3000rpm. any idea's? Spoke to a porsche mechanic and he said its a common problem and it might be the clutch at fault. Again any advice greatly appreciated.
  4. Hi folk, Am hoping you's can dig me out of a hole again. I have a pretty bad clunking noise coming from the left rear wheel area whenever i go over a bad bump. Its definalty metal to metal noise but i and two mechanics can not source the problem. I have been told they can't find any play in any of the bushes and they can't see any obvoius problems. I have replace the anti roll bar drop link to no evail and now starting to think it could be the wishbone ball joint? The bush on this is split but as i said the mechanic said there is no play in it. Has anyone else came across this or have any ideas to what it could be? I am on the verge of buying a new wishbone but they cost £230 each and would start crying if it turned out not to be that!!any help is greatly appreciated!!!! gordon
  5. Hi Borgein, I had a similiar problem to you and spent ages trying to fix it going through all the procedures you have done. I eventually found the problem which i posted about three weeks ago. Have a look back for my post and see if this helps. As for drying the carpet i pulled back the carpet and placed a hairdryer blowing directly onto it, but not too close as obviously it will get rather warm. I,ve been meaning to post pictures but just aint got round to this. Let me know how you get on. cheers
  6. :P Hi everyone, I thought I’d share my great news that I finally once and for all found and fixed my water leak! Basically I had a serious water leak that was causing my passenger side carpet to become soaking wet and if I left it a small pool would form behind the seat. At first I thought it was the drip tray that was torn somewhere so I gave it a good going over and covered any tears with silicone which did not help. Then I thought it could have been the convertible roof its self leaking so I bought water proofer treatment which did not help the leak but gave the roof a new lease of life (would recommend it). Next port of call was all the drainage holes which were all working fine. I then checked the drainage pipe that is located in the passenger side air duct at the rear wheel arch which had came loose but once again it did not help my leak, so it was back to the drainage holes, foam drip tray etc to no avail. So after leaving it for a while due to losing hope I attacked it again this time removing the passenger seat and carpet which started revealing the answers! The water was coming from a rubber pipe that is located in the passenger side sill below the door hinges which turned out to be connected to the electrical connector block that carries all the electrical cables from the cars main body to the door. This was hanging off letting the water get in and therefore carry on by the rubber drain pipe into the passenger foot well. You can't imagine how relieved I was in finally fixing this! Haha unbelievable! Anyway I hope this post helps anyone that has a similar problem!! If anyone would like pictures i'ii try source some. Cheers :P
  7. hi, i have the same problem as you with water coming in the passenger side. At first i thougth it was the foam drip tray at the back but am pretty certain its coming from the front and ending up in the back due to the crazy amounts of rain we get in Scotland. I've also checked the drip tray and drainage holes but to solution. Next step for me is to take the seat out. I've spent hours and hours trying to slove this and has really put a downer on owning the car. When i eventually find out the problem i'll post it. Good luck!!!
  8. Hi people, Am wondering wat you's guys find the best for cleaning the boxster. i've got full boxster red interior and been looking for a product for cleaning the dash and door paneling. i tried auto glym interior shampoo on a small section of the dash and it left it patchy so abadoned that idea. Anyone know of some wonder products? Also am looking for a product to use on the roof to clean it and also to apply a waterproof protection? thanks for the advice folk.
  9. As far as the hardtop goes, they all work up to MY04. The early ones have "ears" on the lower rear. Are you talking about the vent in the dash? Edit - Oh, and Welcome. :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: wow that was a quick reply! thats good news about the hardtop as there quite hard to get a hold off. Regarding the vent i was talking about the side air vent just in front of the passenger side rear wheel. reading back my post it was not that great eh haha.cheers
  10. hi people. Am trying to remove the passenger side air vent without breaking it. Anyone got a a easy way of removing it? Also am wanting to buy a hardtop for my 2003 model boxster but been told that you cant fit a earlier hardtop to a facelift model. Is this the case?? thanks folks :D
  11. hi everyone, Once again i am still trying to get to the problem of my water leak behind the passenger seat. i've checked the drains and they are clear but on inspection of the left rear drain having the wheel off i discovered a pipe that came from within the wheel arch/air vent area exiting into the left rear wheel enclosure (next to the drainage pipe) was rattling about unconnected, does anyone know wat the purpose of this plastic pipe is? I checked the right rear enclosure and there is no pipe there. Am hoping this is my problem with water if so how do i get the air vent off to get back in to connect the pipe??? Also does anyone go through a lot of batteries in their remote control keys? As usual your knowledge is of great help . Thanks all. :renntech:
  12. it Gordos3: Be VERY VERY careful in monitoring water that is ending up under your seats and correcting the problem ASAP. There is a central alarm control module under one of the seats (left seat on U.S. cars, not sure if it's under the right seat on UK cars), but you can't miss it. It's a large square metal box directly under the seat. If it gets flooded, you are looking at about a $2,000 repair. It also controls the ignition and a number of other functions. When it gets wet, you can sometimes resurrect it by opening it up and drying it out but it's much better to prevent it from happening. Removing the seat is a very simple matter. There are four torx bolts holding down each seat, but you can get them off with a 10mm small drive (1/4 inch) regular socket if you are careful. To take the seat completely out, you will have to disconnect the large connector under the seat. DO NOT disconnect that connector with the ignition on or turn the ignition on while the connector is disconnected or you will set off your airbag light. That can then only be reset with a PST2, PIWIS or Durametric unit. There is the possibility of setting the seat on the ground next to the car without disconnecting the connector, but it does get in the way a little. If you go that route, you don't have to worry about the airbag light. As far as diagnosing the water leak problem, fill a quart jar with water and put a pan on the ground just forward of each rear wheel to catch the water as you pour it down each drain hole. The drains exit just forward of the rear wheels. If you have a full quart after it all drains out, your problem lies elsewhere than a clogged drain. Be sure to check each foam liner drain tray for any rips or tears, especially in the area directly beneath the V-levers that operate the pushrods of the convertible top. If you ever had one of those pushrods break and the V-lever rotated with the broken pushrod dangling, it will invariably cause a tear in the drain tray that will in turn cause water to leak into the passenger compartment. Regards, Maurice. Maurice i think you have just hit the nail on the head there with your last bit of advice cause only three weeks ago my girlfriend was trying to lower the roof for the first time without me showing her wat to do. To cut a long story short she broke the roof resulting in the wat i think is the pushrods bending to 45 deg resulting in them dangling. With me operating the roof trying to figure out wat was wrong these could have torn the drain tray as am sure the water has just started to come in after this incident. Do you know if you can buy the drain tray seperate? is it expensive do you know? and how hard is it to fit? maurice your wisdom is greatly appreciated in helping my situation.
  13. Now's the time to buy them if you can afford the gas. I've seen quite a few around here for under $30k. I thought they'd hold their value much better than that. http://houston.craigslist.org/car/731189193.html hi . i understand how you's are feeling regarding the price of gas but honetsly you's still have it sooo good the now compared to the price of (gas)petrol in britian. Right now for a litre of regular gas in glasgow will set you back approx $2.40 thats $10.80 a gallon. now thats expensive.
  14. hi people. This is my first post and hope yours can help me out. I just recently bought my 2003 boxster and so far it been great but recently I've been finding water under the passenger seat. Am sure yours all know that scotland is continuously raining so when i got in the car this morning after a heavy rainfall there was a puddle behind the passenger seat. I had only dried it out the previous week so know its def got a leak. I.ve checked the drainage holes and they seem to be fine but am lost to where else it could be coming from? i checked the passenger foot well and that feels potentially wet also. I was thinking of trying to take out the passenger seat but i don't know if its an easy job? Am after happy motoring like my mate has with his nsx so any help or info would be greatly appreciated!!
