  1. Hi Sylvan, I sure will! I can see there is alot of debating about this in forums, but there are no really easy understandible explanation. You have to take a little from different places and add together.. All are correct in some ways but there are many that are full of missunderstandings also.. I hope to have a 100% solution in a week or 2, then i will post everything i know as clearly as possible for everyone to read and ask if they so want.. We are a few together who is finding a solution at the moment.. Sincerely Åland
  2. :renntech: I just bought a -99 996/C2 with the 8 bit system in. I later bought a 16-bit system with the original 2002-1 cd for germany so that one is now installed and running nicly with the old German cd 2002-1. Now, i am in Finnland and therefore need the scandinavia cd and not the german cd, + a little newer would be nice B) . When pushing AC-button and right button i get info: PONA642D and PCM/IDIS V3.85.. (the 16 bit nav system is a 996.642.122.12 so that one should be the latest there is before pcm2 came along). I understand that the pona part is correct (PONA642D) by reading in other forums etc. but the pcm/idis should be V5.43 to be able to use the new opel/Vauxhall cd:s.. How can i upgrade to get this version? I heard that you need both PONA and IDIS right to make it work? is this correct? I also heard that only PONA is important?? Wich one is the importent one or is it both? I bought the Navi from a guy that have used 2007 Opel cd:s for portugal in it, but i dont know what his IDIS version was. I guess that his PONA was the same since i now have his machine and my understanding is that the Pona is for the Nav unit and the IDIS for the PCM (screen)?? Am i totaly out flying here or have i understood it correctly? Please advice anyone!! I'm bought at ebay a new opel cd70 2008/2009 scandinavia and waiting for it to drop in to the mailbox anytime, so it would be nice to get it to work with this.. Will this have the V5.43 in it? Sincerely Åland (an island between Finnland and Sweden)
  3. Hi, Does anybody have a hint on how to disconnect the airbag on the passanger side of a 996 c2 MY99? I live on an island between Finland and Sweden (Scandinavia) and will have to travel to Sweden for installation of a disconnection bar for a child seat. Dont have a Porsche dealer on my island.. Problem is that i have to take my child with me on this trip and i dont want to drive with the airbags hot on the pass side.. I know i will get a warning, but is there a way to safetly disconnect pass sides front and side bag (100% know its out) and 100% know that the other airbags in the car still works? Like a temporary solution until fixed by a Porsche center... Please advice...
  4. A note on tuning your engine. Regardless of what you do, whether it is software or exhaust, etc, make sure you verify what the engine parameters are after the mods. Particularly timing and A/F ratio. This can be accomplished by using a scanner and taking a reading of the sensors at various engine loads and speeds. You should also record your warm engine vacuum reading at idle with A/C off. Unfortunately, many backyard tuners as well as professional tuners, make changes and later find out that their mods make the engine run outside safe parameters. It is always good practice to log the readings of all sensors prior to making any changes at various engine loads and speeds. Regarding the specific mods mentioned; a more free flowing exhaust will cost you lowend power but may free up engine breathing at or near redline. A freer flowing air filter, assuming it draws air from outside the car, will give you some improvement in throttle response and some more power, but nowhere near the additional power many companies claim. Biggest benefit of an open filter (cone), is the change in engine sound. As for tuners, this will get you the most power improvement but at a substantial cost. Tuning of an NA engine simply involves timing changes as well as may include modifications to the fuel maps. Bottom line is that most of them result in only moderate increases in power and some obtain the added power from leaning out the engine, which, in most cases is safe for the 996 since the factory program is set to run slightly rich. Like I said, log the readings of all sensors on your engine BEFORE making any mods. To make significantly more power, you would need to go with forced induction or chemicals to increase oxygen levels in the cylinders. So i can see that tempering with mapping is to risky and to much work.. Is there a risk with just changing the exhaust and mayby the filter?? Thanx everybody for responding.. And yes, i guess that the next one will be the Turbo car, but i just bought this so i think it will be good for a couple of years.. Jan
  5. I have a MY99 996 C2 and would like to add some extra power. Can you that have experience please comment of results and equipment you use. Like ECU, Exhausts, Airfilters etc.. It would be nice to get some feedback before you spend a fortune on something that is total waste of money.. So, the best way to get good power without having to sell all you own
