  1. I am a big fan of the Lloyd matts. When I owned a boxster, I purchased interior matts and one for the rear trunk. The quality is far superior to the OEM. It also feels more comfortable to the feet. My 996 purchased this past summer already came with Lloyd matts. I don't know how old they are, but feel thicker and heavier than the OEM. I would definately recommend them. Eric
  2. Thanks Loren, I will have my mechanic check them.
  3. I previously asked questions about a squeeking noise in my 1999 C4. Most people thought it was the front hood release, but adjustments did not help. When I drive slowly and go over bumps, there is a sound that I think sounds like the suspension/shocks/? is squeeking. Also, when stopped and I turn my wheel right and left, I can get the same sound. Power Steering fluid is normal. Car is running fine and handling fine. Recently got the weeks aligned. Any suggestions? Eric
  4. Hi Tim: Congratulations! I did the same, traded in my 2000 986 for a 1999 C4 cabriolet. Like you, I enjoyed the Boxster, but there is just no comparison with the 911. Enjoy the car. Eric
  5. Has anyone considered Nitto NT 555? I just replaced my rear tires with these Nitto's on my '99 C4. Had these tires on my Jaguar XJR in the past. They stick like glue, last longer, are definately quieter than the Bridgstone's previously on the car and much less expensive. They go for about $190 for each rear and less for the fronts.
  6. Looks great! I also have a 996 cabriolet. I don't like too much bass, so the additional speakers are not for me, but I am interested in what speakers you replaced the originals with? Would you use the same speakers if you had to replace them again, or would you install another brand? If so, which speakers do you suggest? Eric
  7. Yeah, I guess your right. I was thinking about the fan in front of the radiator, which went on when it decided to. Use to overheat often.
  8. Thanks for the response. I thought the noise would be a problem. I will just stick with the head set units. Even with the wind noise, the head set works well. Eric
  9. I was wondering if anyone installed a bluetooth microphone and speaker in a cabriolet. I was considering this as I use my phone often while driving. However, the wind noise can get loud and I wanted to know if any of you have experience. I currently use a headset which works okay, but it's a PIA putting the set on and off. Eric
  10. I would also go with the 996. You will have less maintanence problems in the long run. I can't speak for the 964, but I had an air cooled 928 in the past and the car would overheat when the weather got hot and the car was stopped or slowed down. Trust me, no matter how much "fun" a car is, there is nothing fun about the temperature gauge inching up as you sit at a red light. For day to day driving i would definitely recommend the 996, if you were planning on driving the car on weekends or everyonce in a while i would go for the 964... the ideal situation would be to have both parked in the garage
  11. It is more of a metallic sound. What do you mean relieve the binding?
  12. Loren: Excuse my ignorance, as I am not very mechanically inclined. When you recommend adjusting the hood latch, what exactly are you recommend I adjust? Am i tightening the spring, loosening the spring, moving something else? Eric
  13. Try "sportscarextras" ebay store. The website address did not copy correctly.
  14. I also replaced mine. I have a unit with LED lights for both the rear brake light and the spoiler light. They are definately brighter than the original and I highly recommend them. They are sold on an ebay site http://motors.shop.ebay.com/sportscarextras/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg The guy who sells these items is the guy I purchased my 1999 C4 from. He used the car as a model, so I have all the items he sells. I also recommend the front bumper daytime LED lights. Really updates the car. Seems the quality of items he sells is very good. He sells the rear lights for $90.00. Eric
  15. It seems to me that different types of interior upgrades go in fads. I remember in the early part of this decade how carbon fiber was the way to go if you have enough money. Now it seems a bit outdated. If you are thinking about selling in a few years, I don't think you will even come close to recoup your investment for alcantara and a few potential buyers may not like it, prefering the original interior. Eric will
  16. I now know the squeeking noise is coming from the front end of the car. Can anyone explain how to adjust the front hood latch? Thanks
  17. Thanks Geoff: Good advise. The noise is only intermittent and does not bother me much. But, I will take your advise and have my wife run beside my car while I enjoy a nice beer in the sunlight. Eric The TSB fix is for the piece above the windshield that the convertible top goes in to. If you don't get the noise with the top down, only with the top up, it's definitely related to the convertible top The problem with squeaks is their exact location is sometimes really hard to track down. After multiple trips to the dealer to fix a squeak that was driving me crazy, the head mechanic and I went out for a joy ride through the canyons until we found a corner where we could reliably recreate the problem. He got out of the car and I slowly drove forward and coasted back for over half an hour until he was able to pinpoint the source of the noise. The fix was easy then. It just took a long time to diagnose the problem. If you can find someplace where you can consistently get the car to make the noise and you have a assistant who can stand outside the car in various locations until you can pinpoint approximately where the noise is coming from, it will be a lot easier to identify where to start checking
  18. Thanks for the reply. It is definately not the top. The top is a 2008 GAAH top and does not rattle. I will listen more closely to the noise. I don't think it is the hood. It seems to be near the rear tires. Eric
  19. Since you are all so helpful, got another issue. 1999 Carerra 4, cabriolet. I have an intermittent squeeking sound, when I am going slow and especially hear it when I go over bumps, like a speed bump. Sounds like it is coming from the rear wheels more than the front wheels. Sounds like something needs to be greased. I am having new rear tires and a 4 wheel alignment done on Thursday and thought you may have some suggestions on what I should have the shop look for / evaluate. Thanks, Eric
  20. I used your WD40 technique. I sprayed the latch and still no light. Used the front trunk many times over the next week. Still no light. Then, for unknow reasons the light began to work and has been working fine for the past few days. Weird? But, I don't care as long as it works. Thanks for the easy fix. Eric
  21. Yes, I get a single beep. I did not know I was supposed to have more than one beep. A few questions, how complicated is fixing a bad microswitch? Do I have to replace the front latch assembly. Also, the light is not much of an issue for me. I can live without it. Does the microswitch do anything else? Any other functions that may not be working? Thanks. Eric
  22. I live in the Tampa area. I don't know any shop which replaces the rear window. I would suggest purchasing a new top with a glass rear window. It is so much better than the plastic and you can use the rear defroster which I used every morning in Tampa. I have a GAHH top which is just as nice as the original. GAHH has approved shops in Tampa they work with that can install the top. I also have a 99 cab, so if you want to see how it looks let me know. Eric
  23. I have a 99 C4 cab. The small light located in the front trunk does not go on. I tried changing the bulb, unhooking the connections, trying with the headlights on and off and nothing is working. Any suggestions? Eric
