  1. Thanks for telling us about Jehnert. The rear doorboards are exactly what I've been looking for! I have 6.5" MB Quart mid-range speakers that have been sitting in my garage for two years.

Galaxy S, Xoom.... you're not a fan of Android, are you? LOL. (Me too! Java Developer) Have you heard about Torque OBD 2? http://torque-bhp.com/software/torque-android-obd2-adapters/ (I have no affiliation with this product.)

Could be a nice addition to your teched-out car.

BTW, here's a link to my DIY sound system install: http://dougturner.dyndns-ip.com/porsche/sound_system_2009/

  2. Thanks very much Loren.

    BTW, just donated.

EDIT : Is the photo you posted for a 996 or a Boxster? I removed the six T40 torx-headed bolts and moved the passenger rollbar assembly to expose the area beneath it. The relay carrier is not there! This has turned into the case of the missing relay carrier. Where else could it be? The car is a 2000 996 C2 Cab. Thx.

  3. Unfortunately, after replacing the battery, the LED is still solid red. The microswitch is NOT stuck in the down or on position. When pressing it, one can hear the distinct "clicking" of the switch. Any other advice? Currently I'm physically unlocking the driver side door with the key. Once I'm inside the car, and close the door, I hear the door locks actuate, and a solid red light appears on the door switch in the middle console. I've never experienced that before. I use the switch to lock and unlock the doors, and the red light on the switch turns off. Sounds like I need a new pcb board in the key?

  4. I think the only solution is to buy the Euro rear bumper cover.

I did a DIY removal of the bumperettes. After removing a few bolts, the aluminum bumperette frame is exposed. I ended up removing the whole rear bumper frame, then drilling out the rivets that hold on the bumperette frame. Best advice is to have a quality body shop plastic weld the EXACT SAME plastic type (vw, audit, etc.) to fill in the holes. Afterwards, a paint job. You can install the bumper yourself.

  5. Hey y'all,

I've perused Renntech for a number of years, but this is my first post.

I flew four hours each way yesterday to go see a 2001 996 Cabriolet with 51,000 miles and Tiptronic.

While it is in great shape, the plastic window appears to have separated from the cloth on the upper left corner an some point, and a bad repair job was attempted.

There's another spot on the canvas that looks like it has a couple inch "snag" in it.

Overall, I think I would want to replace the top. Glass window is a thought too, although it may be cost-prohibitive.

Has anyone done this, what's the best brand to use, and do I dare attempt it myself?

    Thanks!

Edit: Anything else in particular to be cautious of on an '01 Tiptronic? Is the $240 pre-buy at the dealer a real good idea?

A local shop in Kansas City replaced my worn-out canvas top with an aftermarket GAHH top that has the rear glass window. The top is very high quality. Total cost parts & labor $2300. I do a lot of work on my car, but the canvas top is not one I would want to attempt. The shop does ALL of the convertible top work for dealers in the KC area... and it still took them 1 1/2 days to complete.

  6. I'm putting together a pictorial instruction for the PSS9 installations, but it will be a few weeks beofre I really have the time to finish it up.

Wow, a lot of educational material has surfaced since my posting on this thread. Perry, did you end up posting a PSS9 installation pictorial? If so, please share. If not, could you please email me Bilstein's instructions? Sending you a PM with my email address. Thanks!

  7. I think your combo would be fine IF you had the correct aftermarket suspension components to prevent the rubbing. I have 19" Champion Motorsport RG5 wheels with rear Pirelli P-Zero 295/30s and front Michelin Pilot Sport 235/35s. But also have the Bilstein PSS9s coilovers. What will also help a lot is to roll your fenders.

Lot of good info in this thread too: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996/142...eels-996-a.html

Good luck. Let us know what you end up doing!
