  1. I am still having this issue. Let me be more clear. The seats in my 996 c4 move forward and back.

When I pull up the (poorly placed) handle (apparently designed buy the same guy that designed the key location) the driver seat slides forward by its self

When I do the same on the passenger side the seat does not slide forward by its self I need to push the seat forward.

There must be some spring or strut that pushes the seat forward that has gone bad on the passenger side. Does any on have a parts diagram for the seats so I can find this part?

  2. Ok another strange thing on my 1999-996 C4

If I over fill the oil OR let the gas run too low in the car then I get a CEL. The code is for an O2 sensor #1 on bank #2.

Once I put gas in the car or take out some oil the light clears. Yes yes I know the simple solution of not putting too much oil in or letting the gas run too low. Any idea on what could be happening? Any estimates on O2 sensor replacement?

    Thanks

  3. Two beeps means that there is a fault in the alarm system.

You will need the Durametric Software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester to read out the alarm fault codes.

My bad I think I was unclear. Right now when I set the alarm a get 2 blinks. I would like to get 2 chirps of the horn so that I know that the alarm is set. On other systems I have had it was just a dip switch setting to make this happen.

  4. 1999 996 C4.

Is there any way to change the stock alarm so that it chirps 2 time on alarm set and chirps one on alarm off. Right now it brinks the turn signals 2 on set and once on off. I have a hard time telling if the alarm is set in the sun. of course winter is coming in Seattle and I will not have this issue for the next 6 months but it would still be nice to know

  5. this item is listed on Ebay and i was wondering if any have had experence with them. do they really add 12HP?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Acces...d=p4506.c0.m245

my understanding is that an engine needs some backpressure. bypass removes just about all of it so you'll experience some loss of torque at low RPMs. as to whether or not they'll add 12 HP, the only way to know for sure is to dyno your car with them. try getting on a dyno check the HP and then get on the dyno again without mufflers. this will show you what changes, if any, you'd experience with bypass pipes.

its has been proven that NOTHING ADDS ANY SIGNIFICANT power increase to NA engines other than a SC. i have had muffler by-pass pipes.. and other than sounding wonderful... do not add HP... and for street use are not good as they shift the torque curve way up... noticably.

make your own with 90' stainless elbows, weld straight sections to them... get a shop to flare out one side so that they slide over the exhaust.... add tips... or not.... WAY CHEAPER...same result

cool thanks that is what i needed to know

  6. A MY99 3.4 liter will take 8.98 US quarts with filter change. You can just take the filter off - pout out the contents and put it back on.

The only way I can think of too much oil causing a cell is if it gets sucked into the intake (which likely means a bad Air/Oil Separator).

You need to have the code read - as it may not be related to the oil overfill.

I could be wrong just ask my wife! but if it was the Air/Oil Separator would i not be getting smoke?

    haveing the codes read today.

  7. What model year please? (so we know if it is a 3.4 liter or 3.6 liter as they are different)

You need to get the fault code(s) read - there are literally hundreds of faults that turn on the CEL.

    1999 so i think that is a 3.4 liter.

I know there are a large # of codes that turn on the CEL. but i was wondering if any are related to overfilling to oil? and if simply draining some oil will correct the issue.

  8. Ok so my 1999 966 C4 was running fine but I needed to change the oil. So I took it to the local guy and all is fine. 2 days later I get a check engine light. I know these things may not be related but thought I would ask when I remembered that my car took 9.2 QT of oil before the dip still read full. According to the owner’s manual it should be full at 8.6.

So right now if I check my dip stick I am not over full on oil also the gage on the consol show that the oil is full but not over full. But the car took more oil than the manual said.

So I guess my question is can over filling oil cause a check engine light?

Any other thought on check engine light as it relates to oil change?

  9. anyone know where i can get one?

Is there something in paticular that you need out of it? If so I can look at mine.

    Will

    Thanks

What I am looking for in info on the onboard computer.

I notice that when you put the key in but don’t start it is rind through this check program for 30 seconds

But I have not control of it and can’t really see what is doing. Are there controls for it? Programming? Etc

That all I really want to know

  10. This question might have already been covered but I cannot find it so bare with me.

I love my car but HATE several things about the design. I will not even go into the Key location because I will just get pissed off. But I digress.

OK there is a tail fin control that is located on the fuse box cover. NICE PLACE! Let's put the radio and heat control where you can't reach them too. Anyway is there a way to and parts available to move it to the center consul?

sorry for the rant i really do want the information.
