  1. Im reading alot of different reviews on these. Some stating that it fouls up the maf, some saying it doesnt block out the dirt as good as regular filters and others stating they had no issues. Im just wondering if its worth the purchase or if I should just stick with the replacement filters? Any feedback would be great.
  2. There has been a lengthy thread recently from a company named Casper Labs on their replacement bearing. Try seaching that name. Interesting...Thanks. There kit looks pretty good but how good are they? For $300 thats a killer deal but how long do they last is the question. If the LNE is proven than I'd rather spend the extra $300 and get that. Im just wanting to put this in and not worry about it for at least another 60k+ miles! Im not finding a website and found the ebay listing but thats all Im seeing other than that one Renntech thread? Are they still in business? Thanks for the info! I tried reading more on it but its really hard to find any definite info on when it failed, failed to due to install, mileage, etc. I was trying to find more info on symptoms of it going bad with no luck. I guess Ill probably look into getting this done soon. How's the installation on a tiptronic? Or is it best having this done by a professional? If so that goes back to my other question does anyone know a good reputable shop in the eastbay in Northern California who does excellent work for a reasonable price? Yea I saw that. They sell the LNE and another kit which Im assuming is somewhat like a OE kit.
  3. Ive searched and still confused as there is so much debate on this! Anyways Im not seeing much of anyone else offering upgraded bearings for these cars? Is LN Engineering the only company that offers these or is there anyone else equilvlent if not better? Also just want to confirm from what Im reading this isnt a permanent fix from what Im reading on LNE website but more of a preventive Maintenance? That goes back to when will I know this will have to be changed out again? Cant do it when my clutch goes out as its a tiptronics. Ive read even with the upgraded bearings some have still failed after a few thousand miles?!? Im still debating if I want to hit this out in the next few months and if I do does anyone know of a shop here in the Eastbay area that is reasonable priced and can do this? Also while that is being done is there anything else that I should have them look at or replace? Thanks in advance!
  4. Ok so now that Im on here doing more research and reading up on things and my parts supplier stating that my next project Ill want to tackle is the IMS Bearing, RMS Seal and since Im there the AOS! Anyways Im hearing alot of conflicting and much debate information........ Tiptronics are less prone to failure compared to manual? Use thicker oil than factory recommended? If that may be the case what Mobile 1 oil should I go with? Is this something that can be done at home or is a shop recommended? Can your insurance company cover you for engine failure? What are good signs to look for of a failing IMS? Noise? Amount of Leaks? Location of the IMS and RMS? Is it in the bell housing? Motor/Tranny? Thanks in advance.
  5. Got a quick question regarding the coolant and redline water wetter. I didnt really flush the old yellow/green coolant from the system when I did everything and added the new pink coolant which they are both compatible but Im also thinking of putting in redline water wetter will that be ok to have that many mixtures of coolant and additives in the car? Im thinking it shouldnt be an issue but I figured I just post to confirm. Also for the ones that added the water wetter any noticable differences in temp? Minor? Gradual?
  6. You wouldnt happen to be local would you? If so you able to let me do the vacuum at your place to bleed the system?
  7. Yea I was just told this would be just as good and can be done yourself but thats why I was freaking out on the temps and drove it straight home. Ill probably check it out again today worst case scenario Ill take it in and have it done the right way. Just want to make sure that the coolant leak was a fluke so Ill probalby drive with the valve closed this time. Im surprised Porsche uses tap water considering the car and how much they charge for everything! They could at least go out of there way a bit to get distilled! Gee's! By the way anyone ever encounter like a whirling sound up front? When my radiator fan kicked on I felt the suction on the drivers side but nothing on the passenger side? Just a whirling sound coming from that area? Im wondering if my fan is shot? Do both kick on or does the passenger kick on at another time? Is it common for these fan to fail? Ill probably be hitting that out today as well as cleaning the air ducts.
  8. The original leak has been resolved I found the crack on the old tank and replaced everything like the pump, thermostat, tank, etc. Found no leaks when I started it and let it idle. Before when I stated it I noticed the leak right away right above the exhaust tip so I know it not that. I drove the car around for more than 30 minutes yesterday with the vent pulled up the entire time so Im just wondering if it leaked due to that? Lets just say it was the AOS why would it start leaking out the blue now? Because of the water pump? Pressure? Just dont see that happening. Throttle body was clean and Im not seeing any signs of a bad AOS.
  9. Ok after doing some searching on the net it appears that normal temperature is between the 8 and 0. Can someone confirm this. When driving the car previously I never really kept an eye on the water temp so dont remember where its usually at. As for the leaking I still cant figure out where its leaking from. I started the car after it cooled down a bit and still can seem to find where its leaking from? Could this have just been a fluke? Could it have leaked from the breather? I did drive the car around with that valve opened. Just closed it last night and will be topping off the fluids later today. Im tempted to drive it around again but the leak is sort of concerning!
  10. Got another issue with the coolant. I just got around to driving the car today and took it out for a spin and noticed that the temp gauge started to go past the 180 and got to the end of the 0 before I turned it off. Drove it straight back home. I parked the car and heard something hitting the headers sort of like a frying sound (when water or something hits something hot) and saw coolant leaking. I cant seem to find out where its leaking from? The tank is brand new and all hoses were fine and clamped down. How do I know if the coolant sensor is bad? But technically it shouldnt leak from there anyways as its not inside the tank!?! Im drove with the breather valve open could it be leaking from there? Is it still not bleed correctly? Any help would be great.
  11. I just replaced the passenger side about 2 to 3 years ago and now the drivers side is giving me issues. Is it common for these to go bad? When replacing the passenger side I noticed that the regulator is fine but its the cable that was tangled up. Is there anyway to recable the track or do I really have to buy a new one? Just sucks that these things are not cheap to replace and it appears to be the cable everytime!
  12. You may have a point! Maybe theres just a way of fixing the area thats cracked and leaving the rest of it alone??? Ill call locally and see if anyone is able to do it. Worst case scenario Ill just try to fix it myself and if I ruin it I ruin it. Thanks for the info!
  13. Really I swore Ive seen a thread somewhere where they were able to fix it using a resin. Ill have to see if I can track down that thread. I just dont know if I really want to try it as Im afraid of ruining it. If Im able to fix it that would be best as Im not sure if I want to put money towards another set. If the carbon fiber itself was damaged than it would probably cost more money to fix it but I believe just throwing on a clear resin shouldnt be that hard or expensive. I just figured I try to see if anyone on here dealt with something like this before hitting up a few body shops, etc.
  14. I have door sills where the carbon fiber is in excellent condition but appears to be just the Clear / Resin coat that is cracking and lifting. If anyone has any experience with repairing these and or / is willing to help me out would be great. If not I dont mind paying you either as long as its reasonable in price. If not anyone know any shops / individuals in the Eastbay or Northern California? Would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  15. Don't totally give up. Logray rebuilt his engine with no previous experience. I'm not saying you could do it yourself but I'm sure there are guys near you who can do a rebuild. Do you even know what the damage to the engine is? I have been where you are and I agree.. I wanted to throw up... Do a lot of research now and compare your options.. Then make a decision... I'm a bit confused about your insurance as well... Collision and comprehensive do not cover engine failure. What kind of policy do you have that would pay for an engine failure? (unless you mean a warranty policy.) Phillip +1 to above post!
  16. Thanks! I didnt see anything on there stating it was concentrated or not so I just assumed it was and mixed it 50/50. update on the process: Everything has been replaced and filled. Confirmed no leaks from hoses, fuel lines, etc.... Started the car and topped it off and keeping an eye on the gauge. Warmed the car up and was sitting around the 180 mark. I saw it climb a little past 180 at idle so I turned it off. Wasnt able to drive it for 30 minutes as people stated to get more of the air pockets out of the lines. Probably will try that later today or this week. Is there any additional processes Im missing to bleed the system?
  17. That is correct. Old and new Porsche coolants are compatible. Thanks Loren! One more question is the coolant premixed? I just pour it in and Im good or do I still mix it with distilled water? Nevermind I believe this is concentrated so it will have to be mixed with distilled water! Ill touch base once everything is in and driven to bleed the system!
  18. I have an issue with coolant! I bought some coolant last weekend as I was planning on tackling this job this weekend. Anyways the coolant that came out is greenish yellow and the porsche coolant I picked up is pink. I got a few drops in it and stopped after I noticed the different colors in coolant. Im assuming I shouldnt use this coolant with the exisiting coolant in the car correct. **** I was really hoping to have this done by today!!! *update* I just read online that the new coolant color is pink/red in color and is completely compatible with the older version of coolant. can anyone confirm this?
  19. Ok so I hit out the expansion tank, water pump and thermostat yesterday and it took forever! I think I spent most of my time trying to get the expansion tank and water pump in and out of the car! When people talk about a PITA!!! They were not Kidding! I found a few other things I needed to replace so didnt finish the car yet. Should have coolant and will double check leaks, etc and should be up and running by today. Oh by the way the water pump gasket comes with the additional gasket attached for the coolant drain unit. Does anyone actually change that out as well or do you just cut it off and just use the water pump gasket? Sort of a stupid design to have both of those attacked! I had a hell of a time cutting off the old one due to the lack of room!
  20. Off topic.....I didnt know insurance could total a car due to engine? How do you even go about with insurance on that?
  21. I was checking it out earlier this week and its definitely coming from the tank area. Ill be changing out the thermostat and water pump as well while Im at it. Ill also be double checking the hoses and everything else to make sure they are working or connected as should! Hopefully I dont have any issuess doing this all tomorrow! Glad to know yours worked out well and was fixed at a low cost!
  22. Im sure it has its benefits but I figured with all the debate going on I would just stick with a stock thermostat. Cant really go wrong with OE as its made for the car. If this car was modified or tracked I would have probably gone with a lower thermostat or even better aluminum radiators.
  23. Yea I was doing further research on the thermostat and search the forums and other forums and there is alot (ALOT) of debate over it! I ended up just going with a stock thermostat as alot of people stated for me to save the money and just put in a stock setup so thats what I did.
