  1. Don't ever believe the CPO things again. I bought a 04 cayenne S cpo on internet, when the car arrived, it is totally different from what the cpo report described the car. The hatch door strut doesn't support the hatch door, the microswitch on the hatch was broken, the bumper had a big patch of touched up scratch, side molding came off, I just replaced all 4 brakes and rotors (less than a yr), wipers was bad, changed the drive shaft last month and the back bumper spoiler are all scratched etc. All the above items were not covered by the cpo except the drive shaft.

I called the dealer and they ignored me, I called pcna and they ignored me too.

CPO is only PCNA and dealers' marketing scam, it doesn't reflect the condition of the car. The dealers found a car and it "looks" ok", then they will pay PCNA for a extended warranty and take a chance to sell it to you !

  2. I am looking to buy a used C4S in about 3 to 4 years old, can someone to tell is there a certain year model I should avoid? Is there a certain common problem on that particular model? Is it a reliable car? I learned my lesson, I bought a CPO 04 Cayenne S , I thought even it is so called "under warranty" , there are still alot of things not covered, so this time I think I should do a little more research.

    thanks

  3. My 04 CPO CS has the airbag faulty warning, I asked my stealership, they said it is not under warranty and will cause me one thousand to fix it. I am in Vancouver Canada and there is only one Porsche dealer, everyone got rip off by them. I am really not happy with PCNA, they don't stand behind their CPO warranty, when they sell the car, everything seems to be covered under warranty but then nothing is ever covered. Has anyone had this warning light go off and had it fixed by warranty or CPO? Is there a way fix the problem by myself?

  4. Guys - the locking rear differential is not standard. It is included as part of the Advanced Offroad Technology Package. This package also includes nice things like ruggedized wheel wells, hydraulically disconnectable stabilizer bars for greater off-road wheel articulation, and front, side, and rear skid plates. From the Renntech homepage, at the top bar click on Documents. The ordering guides give a good overview of available options. For some year-models you have to go to the second page. When you find the one you want, you can download the PDF document with the download button at the bottom. The interface is confusing but the information is out there.

I looked high and low to find a used Cayenne with this option but I could not find a single one in the US because it is very rare. If you are lucky enough to be ordering a new one and you think you might ever use it, I would say definitely get it. You will make somebody's day when you decide to upgrade to a 2014 Turbo and you will be clearly differentiated in the market.

That said, realistically this option is massive overkill for the average user including me and I will certainly do some mild offroading. The first click of that left switch will put you in 4-low, which is just a 2.7:1 gear reduction for more power. The second click will lock the center differential in loose traction conditions. This will help if BOTH the front or BOTH the rear tires loose all traction. Here's my point - most of us will never miss the locking rear differential because other technology is compensating, namely ADB or Advanced Differential Braking which apparently works pretty well even with one wheel completely off the ground. Just smoothly apply more power and let ADB do its magic. Check out some of the videos on youtube and can see it in action

Disclaimer: I am not an engineer or a technician or an experienced offroader. I have just done my homework and this is why other people and forums have told me but this should be better information than you can get from your typical "what color do you want" salesperson. (My apologies if you are a more than typical salesperson)

Cheers guys, and happy motoring. I love this car! I stopped by the Garden of the Gods (aptly named) outside Colorado Springs on my way home from the dealership yesterday.

Thankyou very much, that explained all these things that the owners handbook and the Porsche service expert can't explain !

  5. It is really weired, nobody seems to have try locking the differentil.

Not sure if I'm understanding your inquiry correctly but I can also only engage the low ratio and lock the diff (illuminating ONLY the top two lights on the selector) as the third, lower, light comes on once to go back to the high ratio. I didn't notice a conflicting statement in the manual but the way it's working makes sense to me because you can;t have a high and low ratio at the same time.

The square light is indicate you are in "4 low mode", the top light indicate the center differential is locked, and the lower light indicate the rear differential is locked. It is clearly stated on the owner's manual. I just can't lock the rear diff.

  6. I can put my 04 cs on "reduction" mode, then I can lock the center differential, but I can't lock the rear differential and the lowest light on the center console doesn't come on. My dealer said the rear differential can't be locked, but according to the manual, it can be locked and the third light on the center console will come on. Also according to the manual you don't need to step on the brake to switch to reduction mode, if the car is slow or stopped in neutral, but the dash warned me to step on the brake before I can swith to "reduction mode".

Anyone knows it is my car failure or the handbook was printed wrong.

    Thanks

  7. If the glass door switch is made in Germany, you got the right one. If the switch is made in France, they give you the bad one, take a look on the back side of the switch. If the switch looks OK there are other things to check, lock, wiring, button in drivers door , etc. your dealer can find it out with his PIWIS tester.

If I disconnect the swith and it still happening, does that mean the problem is not the switch ?

    thanks

  8. Hi, this problem normally occurs by water entering the rear wiper cover and ultimately through a poorly sealed microswitch housing. There was a campaign and then a campaign to replace that one. If you dont use the glass that often then do the following: open the glass, remove the plastic cover around the glass side locking pin. there is a smal electrical connection in there. Unplug the connection, refit the cover and close the glass. It wont open again unless you use the remote control on the key. If you want to fix it properly, go to the dealer and purchase the latest part number microswitch. usually the part number changes when the part has been improved. from latter 05 onwards this issue was resolved. Let me know how you get on.
Thanks for the instruction, I disconnected the plug, but it still show the warning sign on the dash, after went over a bump. Any ideas ?

    thanks again

Hi, did you insulate the plug? Does the glass open when the light comes on?

No, I just unpluged them and yes, the light came on.

    Any input please ?

    thanks

A good dealer would check it for you anyway. Sounds like you have a lazy dealer...

    From the TSB:

"The affected Vehicle Identification Numbers are contained in the following VIN Ranges:

Model Year 2003 & 2004, US and Canadian Vehicles

    WP1AB29P53LA60240 to WP1AB29P03LA60890 (M.Y. 2003) Cayenne S

    WP1AB29P44LA60005 to WP1AB29P54LA71031 (M.Y. 2004) Cayenne S

    WP1AC29P54LA90028 to WP1AC29P44LA92126 (M.Y. 2004) Cayenne Turbo"

No, My vin is not in the range.

I don't understand why it still got triggered even though the switch is disconnected.

I changed the switch and it is still like that !

    any advise ?

    thanks
