Performance upgrade? I don't think there is a book specifically for that, anyway the best ever 996 book is: "Porsche 996 The Essential Companion" byAdrian Graham Streather

You're just thinking that the variocam is not working? Drive the car over 5000 rpm and check... next step could be to clean and check the MAF sensor.
-
Got it! I don't have this part because I'm not a US spec... it's the air injection unit, the hose code is 996 113 239 55 before '99 and 996 113 239 56 after '00, the other end is on a shut-off valve (993 113 245 01) located behind the alternator, look at this thread

I don't have this black part under the cooling reservoir in my 996... this look like the vacuum line for the brake booster... try with 996 347 443 25, any kind of leak from that hose?

In four days and alone? I don't think so... I changed my AOS too without dropping the engine...

The led lamp is usually 2 to 3mm shorter, try to pry out a little the copper contacts in the lamp case.

In my opinion this noise could be coming from the tiptronic oil pump with normal wear, should I just wait for the worst? or can I do something to prevent any future problem? Anyway I'm considering to have IMS and RMS service...
-
With my Durametric I also have code p0740 and an unknow 105... It seems that the rattle is louder when the car is warm.
-
I would like to paticipate as a guest on the next "Work on your car day", nothing in next august? I'll be there!

Hi! I have an intermittent noise (rattle) coming from the tiptronic during idle in position D or R, I lifted the car, engaged a gear, and noticed that the noise is coming from where the transmission is connected to the motor, it's a metal noise, not very loud and it's the same noise you could ear with a loose heat shield. I think that I always had this rattle but maybe now it's a little bit louder...
The question is, is that normal?
P.S. in N or P position I have no problems, the engine just run fine, i change the engine filter and oil every 5000 miles with a 5W40, I had my transmission serviced 30.000 miles ago.
thanks!!

update
I Will first try to weld something on the eccentric bolt and pull it out with a hammer extractor, second options would be to cut the toe arm inside the silent block socket, but for this option I'll need a joint ball remover tool and of course a new toe arm.
-
I have a misalignment on the rear left wheel and the toe as to be adjusted, unfortunately the eccentric bolt is rusted inside the silent block of the toe arm and when I try to turn it left or right it return in the original position, I've tried everything to move it out but I really don't know what to do know, I'm stuck. The internal nut and the eccentric plate came off quite easily, I filled every parts with wd40.

I've just seen that I have my GPS Alarm unit module fitted right on the top of the immobilizer! could be this after all?

From Durametric cable I also have the error code P1571 n°39 on the motronic

Wow! thanks, Ok, I can just trow it away, it's useless by itself!

Just founded a working unit in the Netherlands for 120€ I have the PIWIS cable with Durametric software can I code it by myself?
-
Thanks for the help, yes, it's a RoW car that actually I drive in Italy, it will be very difficult to find a shop with this type of experience here :( I'll try anyway! Thanks again, I'll post my results!
-
From the unit to the sensor? yes, apparently no problems
-

No signs of water, corrosion, flood or other, anyway I cleaned the mainboard with a spray cleaner but nothing changed!
The unit is a M534

the 996's are full of strange noise coming from every part of the car, the most of the case there are no problems, the only things you can do is check with Durametric or PIWIS for warning codes and doing the normal maintenance. But, if you can be mor specific with a single noise, maybe we can help!
