  1. Is there any simple way to fault test the microswitches in the car directly from the alarm system or using a jump wire?

    I have a a single-beep of the alarm horn on locking since over a year, the Porsche dealer could not solve the problem after billing me 600,00 € for a new interior monitoring sensor, Oddment compartment microswitch, Front lid microswitch, a new Radio contact and the PST check.

    As a result they told me that I should leave them the car at least two or three weeks because they have to take out the seats and other parts to solve the problem... I paid and drove back the car home.

  2. Any idea on how to make a 996 rear lights look like the 997? I was thinking, maybe using the rear fog lamps, as if they where stop lights, so fitting inside a two filament bulb could make the effect closer to a 997...

  3. I'm changing out the throttle body on my 1999 C-4 with e-gas next week and was wondering what to expect. I looked in the DIY forum and here but did not see a posting that describes it. Can I re-use the bolts? Does the ECU (DME) need to re-learn the new throttle body? Any special tools needed? I'm changing it out because its making lots of funny noises and does not behave well when cold (surging hesitating) codes are P0102, P1503 and P1506, once it warms up all is fine. Already replaced MAF with no change. Any information is much appreciated.

    I think that you already know all the answers that you need :) for sure I can tell you that you can keep your bolts!

  4. I believe differential fluid change is part of the 90K mile service. Unlikely changing the fluid will make any noticeable difference to the driver assuming normal wear of the differential.

    The 911 Carrera 4 is a four-wheel-drive system with a viscous multiple-plate clutch, the front wheels consistently convey a minimum of 5 per cent and, if required, a maximum of 40 per cent of the engine's drive power to the road. The viscous multiple-plate clutch is housed in the front axle drive unit, conveying drive power to the front axle and compensating for any difference in engine speed between the two axles. Like a multiple-plate lock, the clutch is made up of inner plates fastened to the hub and outer plates connected to the housing. Silicon fluid comes between the plates in a totally sealed compartment. As soon as there is a difference in speed, shear forces between the silicon fluid and the plates transmit torque and drive power to the front axle as required.

  5. I also have a 99 Porsche 996 but C4 and I was changing my front brake pads today and found some gease on the brake line. So looked into it further found my front passenger side outer CV boot is crack wide open and there were barely any gease in joint at all. I look into the company you mentioned but did not see any part for that was for the porsche. Did you order part that was for other cars? I think I did feel my car shakes a little a month or two ago but I check the wheel and no gease was found so I just thought I was being too sensitive but now I think the shake was indeed from the crack CV boot. Any pointer would help on finding new replacment boot or even changing out the whole axle. Thanks in advance.

    I had the same problem last week... I just had the part from my porsche dealer, the part number is 996 349 291 00 and it's called "dust bellows"

  6. Ok, lift up the car, dry out the diff oil, remove the lower wheel arm and try to get enough room space to pul out the joint

    Take out also the 6 screws and nuts fixing the last part of the joint

    Now you have enough space to remove all the screws and the dif cover

    Clean everything, put the new Oil seal and remount the cover.

    Now fill with transmission oil to the level (until oil start to come out from the filling hole) and remount everything in reverse order. you are done!

  7. Want to try a cold air intake like the schnell type? Do you already know that a modified air intake have as result only a great sound and almost nothing in hp gain? So... let's do it with less than a $ spent...

    Loose the wraps

    Take a 50 cent plastic tank

    put the middle plastic cap inside the secondary air inlet of the OEM air intake

    Check if everything is all right and remount the intake with the original wraps

    Let the MAF sensor read the new air volume and you are done!

After lots of research on the forum and even a PM to Loren I was looking if some one can help me with a step by step instruction on how to replace a front joint boot on a 996 C4, the last time I worked on it (to change the front dif oil seal) it was very very hard but I'm sure there is a simpler way to do all this stuff... unfortunately I don't have the Porsche technical manual but only the PET, so if anyone have a DIY documentation it would be great to share it there...
