  1. Hi Loren I checked last night. The fuel door does lock when the central locking is activated. It seems as if the ring is supposed to retract and if that is not happening? Does that make sense? What would you suggest? Take care
  2. Okay, thanks for that. I'll check when I get home. I didn't hear anything break though, just the fact that the ring with cable attached is dangling where it shouldn't be worried me.
  3. Thanks Loren!! ****....lot of work for one tiny little pull ring.... Could have been worse I suppose... Thanks again
  4. Hi Guys I had the battery on my 997 Carrera 4S run down completely due to being away on holiday. While struggling to get the bonnet/hood open to gain access to the battery (stupid me, forgot the trick of connecting a spare battery to the contact in the fuse box) I saw this ring attached to a cable situated on the driver side between the door and the front wing (car is right hand drive). Needless to say, I pulled on it, thinking it might be an emergency bonnet/hood release cable or something. I have since got the battery recharged and everything is fine, apart from this cable with ring attached that is now dangling in the gap between the door and the wing.... What is this and how do I go about fixing it??? Please help before I break something else... Etienne
  5. Thanks very much for this very informative reply, much appreciated!!! Take care
  6. Hi Guys I own a 2006 997 C4S which I bought 10 months ago. The car has now done 30 000km's. I have noticed a progressive slow cranking over the last few weeks. I use the car on a daily basis for short journeys. When I had it serviced recently I asked the dealer (350 km away) to check the battery due to the slow cranking. They reported that the battery was fine. On Friday the car would not start at all. I removed the battery and had it tested at a battery shop where they said it was fine, just completely drained. What do I do now?? I had the same problem with my previous car, a 996, last year, when I gambled and tried to drive to the agent. I made it half way before the car stopped in pouring rain with the battery dead in a remote area. Not something I would like to do again... I would really appreciate any suggestions. 7. Thanks very much, I DO love it;)) Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to extend the warranty when it expires in another 2 years time. Take care Etienne
  8. Thanks very much guys!! I took delivery yesterday of a 997 Carrera 4 S with 23 000km's on the clock after trading in my 996 Carrera 4 Cab. WOW!!! What a change! Etienne
  9. Would you mind explaining this please? What is the IMS? Sorry for the basic questions..
  10. Hi Guys The replacement part showed up at last. I replaced it today. Fortunately it was just a 15 minute job. As a matter of interest, I found a screw that just about fitted into the stuck piece of the plastic pipe (part that was stuck inside the hose) and succeeded in pulling out the piece of fitting from the hose. Next question, and quite an important one I think. My car has the green coolant, the replacement coolant that was sent i the pink stuff. Do I need to drain the existing green coolant completely before filling with the diluted pink stuff? It would be a whole lit easier just topping it up! There was some story about the compatibility of the 2 kinds of coolant though.... Thanks very much for any advice!! Take care Etienne
  11. Hi Thanks for the info. I was wondering how I was going to get it out! Take care Etienne PS: I ordered the part from AutoAtlanta. Pelican has no option on the net for ordering from abroad and the local agent can only deliver the part in 3 weeks time.
  12. Hi Loren After looking at the diagram closely it seems as if the item in question might be #18, rather than #16. What do you think? See this side-on picture: Would #17, the bolt, then be the bolt in the background with the cable tie hanging from it? If so, should #18 (A 996 106 226 51 - Socket) be bolted down with the bolt in question? Why are there 2 #18's? A 996 106 226 51 as well as 996 106 226 52? Thanks very much Etienne
  13. Thanks Loren!! Anybody know where I could order this part from? Some dealers does not want to send to South Africa... Take care Etienne
  14. Hi Loren Okay, after closer inspection I think you are right, it does seem broken. Sorry for these stupid questions, but what is the "AOS"? Why does that joining piece have such a strange shape? Does that "lip" attach or hook somewhere? So, is it as simple as replacing this broken piece and filling up the coolant system again? Thanks very much for your time!! Take care Etienne
  15. Hi Guys I was on a long distance journey today with my 1999 996 C4 Cab when I noticed the engine overheating warning flashing. I pulled off the road immediately and noticed a lot of smoke coming from the engine bay. After opening the engine compartment I noticed coolant everywhere. My car has done 70 000km, has a full service history from the agents and has had a major service 500km's ago. After getting the car home I noticed that there seems to be a loose connection with coolant coming from the bottom end. Please see pictures attached. Why would this fitting come loose? Is it as simple as refitting the pipe and adding coolant again? I would hate to have to have the car taken to the dealer on the back of a tow truck (400 km journey) if that is all they will do... Any advice please? Thanks very much Etienne PS: Oh yes, what was attached with the cable tie to the bolt?!?
  16. Hi Guys I own a 1999 Carrera 4 Cabriolet that has one very annoying problem. With the soft top up there is quite a loud "knocking" sound from the middle of the top of the windscreen over every imperfection in the road. With the top down the noise is gone. Does anybody have any idea what I could look for? Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks very much Etienne
  17. Hi Guys Further to my post above. I took the car to the closest Porsche dealer and left it there to be sorted. Close to a 8 hour round trip. The dealer called me to let me know that they are changing the light bulbs as both are blown (I didn't check that) but they can find no further fault with the car. They are saying that it has to be a coincidence that both bulbs blew at the same time. Sounds like rubbish to me!! Oh yea, I also realized later on that the clock in the car was reset when the bulbs blew. Sounds like a short circuit to me? Does anybody have any thoughts on this please? Thanks very much Etienne
  18. Hi Loren Thanks, that was quick!! I am trying to find info on replacing the switch, no luck yet. Could you point me in the right direction please? Thanks Take care Etienne
  19. Hi Loren OK, the ignition switch does not seem to have an effect. Should I replace the light switch? How do I diagnose a faulty switch without replacing it? Take care Etienne
  20. Thanks Loren I'll do so today and report back. As a matter of interest, how big a job is it to replace the light switch? Nearest Porsche service agent is a 8 hour round trip away... Take care Etienne
  21. H Guys I own a 1999 C4 Cab that has the following problems. Firstly, the soft top goes down when I push the dash mounted button but wont go back up with said button. If I push the button on the key, it does go back up though. This morning I had the top down when I switched the headlights on and all of a sudden the lights are gone! The parking lights still work as does the high beam lights, no driving lights though. I checked the fuses and all seems in order. Any ideas? Thanks very much Etienne
