I have read the pelican parts OBC hack and had a question. Does the use of one switch control both the up mode and down mode? Will the one switch also activate the speed gong. Does anyone know if gloss switches are still available?

Check your option codes that are located on the white label (sticker) in very front of the front trunk or on page 1 of your maintenance book. You can also check the label on your 4 channel AMP. If you have the 490 Option you need a HAES 6x40W AMP with the following:
996 COUPE M490
996.645.311.00
Other AMPs may work but I know this one does for sure. Perhaps others can chip in.
You do not need a DSP module with the AMP that I referenced above. I've installed both AMPS 4x40 and 6x40 while using the stock rear speaker kit. The stock kit contains 4 speakers 2 per side and the HU 220 (15 AMPS) powers the stock OEM rear speakers very well.
I checked and it is the 490 option.
Don't you get with the added power from the 6x40 a better balance to the rear speakers? I have read in other threads when using the radio amp you get that "I added the speakers and heard no difference."

I want to add rear speakers but I want to make it worthwhile to hear them also, so I would like to change the 4 channel amp to a 6 channel.
I have access to an M680 amp w/ DSP controller from a 996 part no. 996.645.322.00. For my year the number should be 986.645.324.01. Its from a 996 coupe with the M680 sound option. Part # on the matching equalizer is 996.645.201.05. For my year the matching part no. is 996.645.201.01. Will this fit the same bracket and harness for the the 2001 Boxster or should I go aftermarket for the amp? Do you need the DSP module to run the rear speakers with the 6 channel amp?
Is your original 4 channel amp a M490 model or an M680 amp?
Regards, Maurice.
I assume it is an M490 since it is a 4x40w amp.
I only have the front dash and door speakers with the the CD-220 head unit. i will probably be upgrading each of the speakers in time, but wanted to add the rear speaker package initially. I have the storage box already and i just have to add the speakers and wiring harness back to the the head unit or amplifier.

Can the Bose sub/speaker package for the rear shelf plug straight into the standard 220 HU? If not, does it need the to plug into the 6x40 amp (I currently have the 4x40) or a Bose amp instead? Is this the same for the remaining door and front dash speakers also?
I am new to the forum and if this has been answered in another thread, I could not find it doing a search.
Thanks. Just got my first used 2001 Boxster 2.7, 5 speed, yesterday and i already want to start tinkering.

The HU holds separate settings for each band and each input so you need to set the bass, treble, fade and balance for each radio band and for the cd.
