Hi Folks, Quick question to the Porsche driving and buying community. I'm thinking of getting myself into a Carrera GTS and therefore would like to sell my trusty Carrera S. Sad but true because I'm not made of money :-). The thing is that speaking for myself I would be loathe to buy a car like that from a private seller - I'd want the reassurance of gettingit from a dealer. Also I'm not too sure whether I'd want people turning up at my place to scope out an expensive car - you never know how might turn up! Sowhat I'm getting round to is can you guys think of any other options apart from selling it to or through the dealer on consignment or chopping it in against a new one? It such a shame to have it devalued by such a huge amount when sellingto a dealer. If I did decide to go down the private sale route can you guys suggest any good mediums? I will look into the New Jersey owner's club mag Ithink as a way just to reach out to genuinely interested enthusiasts - anyone got any other ideas? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for asking Philip. I had thought I had, well maybe I had given up on it, but after the dealer telling me that 'they all shift like that' I had sort of resigned myself to being VERY deliberate with my shifts to third and got used to thinking that the occasional balk is just part of the Porsche experience. I had even started to bond a with the car a little more! But last weekend I took it away for with my wife and it was being so uncooperative that I thought 'this is ridiculous! I've got to take it back to the dealer!' so I think I will. Really not sure what the next move is when they say it's fine and I say it's not! I'm a little concerned that a short shifter might exacerbate the problem though? Maybe I dont really appreciate how they work? I'm pining after a PDK car now :-) Sent from my iPhone
not realizing you are in a 25mph zone on a 3 lane highways does it.....! How fast do you have to get caught going to get a 5 point ticket ?

Thanks for the feedback Phillip - appreciated. I didn't drive for a few years before this car as I had moved to New York from London and had no need to but I've always driven manual cars in the past. I wonder whether it might be something to do with the fact that I'm used to changing gear with my right hand - perhaps I'm overcompensating / undercompensating with the movement. I think maybe I should ask to test drive another 911 at the dealer and see if the same thing happens - I guess that would sort out whether there was a problem once and for all. They have already adjusted the cables at the dealership. The car only has 12500 miles on it so would be amazed if it were a gearbox / clutch issue. Having said that every now and then, when pulling away from rest and slipping the clutch a little I do hear a bit of a squealing sound from the back of the car. I wonder if that might be related. Food for thought.
Hi Folks, I have had somewhat of a checkered history with my 911 - the fun factor has been diluted by lots of niggles like squeaking windows and creaking dashboards - basically stuff that I might have expected in 'lesser' car. Also the 5 point speeding ticket I got last weekend took the sheen off a bit but that was nothing to having just found out how my insurance company are going to use that as an excuse to gouge me for the next three years - still thats hardly the car's fault. One thing this is driving me nuts though is the cars tendency to bulk when trying to shift quickly from 2nd to 3rd. It just seems to take two stabs to engage sometimes which is annoying as when you are shifting quickly you are usually keen to accelerate quickly and theres nothing like the car refusing to take the next cog for killing forward momentum. The dealer says that the boxes are quite slow by nature and that they have to be stroked around rather than slotted home quickly (which is a little odd for an out and out sports car). Anyone else had this problem? Steve
I can see I'm on this thread a year or so late but have to say that the Bose system in my car is just as disappointing as the OP mentions. Yes, its loud but the sound quality is just terrible. The treble is so harsh as to be almost distorted and the bass is powerful but totally undefined. If I had specced this thing from new (I got my car with about 1500 miles on the clock) and had paid the premium I would be devastated. As it is - I have other things to concern me like the extremely obstructive gearbox (hard to get into 1st at rest and under power from 2nd to third it balks constantly) and intermittent rattle behind the passenger dash ( which i can temporarily cure by pounding on it hard with my fist). Not exactly what i expected from a Porsche but oh well.
Hi I keep a relatively close eye on the oil level in my car as I know they do use it up. I had noticed that it often reads significantly higher when its been sitting in the garage undriven for a little. Last weekend, after about 3hrs or so on the road I arrived at my destination and went off for a walk on the beach (for about 30 mins). When I got back I checked the oil level (which read about half - way lower than I'd seen it before - the car was on a dead flat surface). So I topped it up with a couple of little pours - up until it was reading about 2/3rds full. I stopped there as I wanted to make some allowance for the level being higher in real terms as shown when the car hadn't been driven for a while. I drove home for an hr or so and parked it. Last night I re checked it (wanted to make sure it didn't need another top off) and saw that it was absolutely full to the top (at the very top of the graph). I also noticed that the oil pressure seemed to be hitting the top of the dial with relatively little rev load as I drove it. So now of course I'm worried that 1) its over oiled - and what can I do about it 2) that the oil measuring mechanism is wrong / unreliable / erratic to say the least. Any advice guys? Steve

Hey Guys - can anyone recommend a rack for a 911? Preferably one that can be easily removed when not carting bikes about. I know its a bit of an odd question but thought I'd throw it out there. Steve
Hi Folks I have a 2006 Carerra S and there's a persistent 'flexing' noise over bumps from the rear right hand side too. I had thought it was some problem with the speaker grill / panel around it but had never thought of the rear window. Once you notice it it drives you NUTS!!! I took mine to Manhattan Motorcars (who are great by the way - if you use them ask for 'Lenka' - best customer service I've had) and they said they had cured it but it is still there (the only small blemish on their record). This gives me a new line of investigation. Good luck guys...
Hi Porsche people. I have to park the car in a building around the corner from my house (don't have a garage). Its a good carpark - assigned space, security camera etc BUT every time I drive into it the front touches down and scrapes audibly (also feel it through the wheel). Now I'm going in super slowly (pretty well at a crawling pace) and I've tried different angles of attack but always with the same result. I looked under the car last night and saw scrape marks on the underside of the very front of the car. My question is ... does it really matter? I mean i HATE the sound/feel but it is really going to do any damage to the car in the long term? You can't see the scraped bit unless you are underneath it so its not an aesthetic question. It would be a bind to move carparks as this one is inexpensive and secure but if i have to I will. Any feedback you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks Steve
Guys - thanks for all your responses. The idea of the jump starter sounds like a good one. Having said that, as long as the weather stays dry I'll be able to drive her regularly so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue. Taking the battery out also sounds like a solution albeit a more complex one! How does one obtain the radio code? Anyway loving the car. We are lucky people, people!
Wow I've never heard of one of those devices Scottiemac. Actually I had to google them to convince myself that you weren't kidding me. Sounds like a great solution provided it works with electric lights. I'm going to look into them. Have you (or has anyone) any experiences with using these things?
Thanks for the feedback but that's not an option for me as the car is in a public garage. I just need to know whether having the engine running charges the battery...
