  1. Hello, I've been looking around for quite a while now to find some nice wheels for my 1997 Boxster. I know that Porsche only recomends up to 17" So I want to stay within that because I might end up taking the car with me to Germany and the german TUV will know about that. So here is my issue: I want some nice 17" wheels. I realy like the O.Z. Alleggerita HLT here is a picture: but they are only available in 18". Does anybody have an idea where I can keep looking for something like that? Tire rack has nothing that I like in 17" and that will fit the car. I allready comunicated with OZRacing directly and they just say they only focus on 1998 and up Boxster (bigger market) which I can understand. Maybe someone here can point me into a good direction as where to look. Thanks
  2. Hi Brian, I'm in Pleasanton, I trust Kahlers in Dublin, they seem to know our Cars quite well. You could call'em up and see ...
  3. If the change happened after the shop did the work, it's up to them to remedy the issue. If they refuse, go to the dealer and have them spend an hour to diagnose the looseness. Take that invoice back to the mechanic with the explanation and give them the option to correct it, or reimburse you for the cost of repairing and diagnosing it. Because the airbag is housed in a loose unit, this is a potential safety issue. It's my $.02, but I'd make it clear to your mechanic that it's your safety and their reputation at stake. Mark +1 no matter how good their reputation is - mistakes can and will hapen as long as humans work on stuff -
  4. Thanks for the input ;o) Yeah I left all that stuff with no air bag in the doors out and so on ;o) After replacing the part the noise will be gone and the door will lock again. BTW I ordered a new bowden cable for the inside door handle and had to modify it a bit there was a clip on the cable that did not fit the door liner. No big issue ...
  5. Hi guys just wanted to give an update. The lock mechanism (finally) arrived yesterday and I replaced it. The door locks again without making a grinding noise ;o) But that part was pretty expensive ($430 ;o) ) At first they told me it would be $230 so I ordered all the other once were quoting $300 to $450 good deal *at least what I thought ;o) Then the part didn't show up so I called and he is like oh the p/N was updated we didn't contact you yet the new p/n is more expensive = $430 If I would have know that before I could have gotten it local without waiting 2,5 weeks ;( But its all good now. Thanks again for the help. B)
  6. Hi, just ordered the right part from the company formaly know as Star Recycling (now specialized parts planet). Got a brand new one because the don't have any used ones. Thanks for the help guys.
  7. hi pk2, I took it out last night and everything looks fine just a little dirty/oily. I cant see the original P/N anymore only 3 digits left ... bummer I'll contact Star Recycling in a few minutes, looks like the changed their name ... Thanks for the help.
  8. Thanks DC, will try to contact them. Any other ideas what else it could be or do you think I'm on the right path?
  9. Hello Guys, my 1997 Boxster has issues with the passenger sider door lock. When I turn the key to lock the doors on the driver side there was this grinding noise. And then the doors opend back up. I'm thinking ist must be the door lock mechanism. Went to my local repair shop and tried to get the parts but nobody seems to have the right P/N! and they are asking $400 (whithout knowing if it fits). Did some online searching last night and found a left door lock mechanism at German Auto Parts but for a 98 and the driver side ($130). I wrote them but they don't have the 97 passenger side. Does anybody have an idea where I could get that part whithout paying $270 more for it. Or am I searching in the wrong place? Maybe its something different? Please help me. Thanks.
  10. I just fixed my convertible cables and was worried about it too. After looking and thinking and a few smokes I realized it doesn't realy matter how you put the gear in! The only thing is the teeth need to be in contact with the other gears! I kinda middled it and then put the lever on. Alligned the lever with the marks on the housing and it was fine. Thenn the gear will be in the right spot. As stated in the previos post. You might see a little mark on the lever and a groove on the gear. Just make sure if you test it that the clamshell is attached to the lever. Otherwise the switch doesn't work and the gear will run out of teeth, the you have to start from the beginning Hope that helps a bit!
  11. Hi I have a 1997 Boxster, with a manual (cable hood release) The cable snapped out of the lever couple weeks ago. I fixed that and was happy until today. I tried to open the hood and the cable broke. I hope I can open it with some pliers ... I'm thinking about modifying the manual release to the electrical. Does anybody have any informations on what parts I will need for that and where to get them I searched the internet and couldn't find anything usefull. What I think I'll need so far is: - Latch for the electrical release - Wiring harness - Emergency release cable - buttons - ... - ... Does anybody know if there is a DIY articel out there? I could not find anything in here But maybe somebody did this mod allready would make it way easier for me ;o) Thanks for your help.
