  1. ok guys, i get pretty paranoid when stuff like this happens and i start trying to cover all my bases.. when i get the car home tomorrow, do i remove the alternator from the car to get it tested at AutoZone or do they test the alternator while it's in the car? (probably a REALLY dumb question) also, im going to let them test my current battery as well. would it be smart to replace the battery and alternator at the same time? i would think that putting a new battery in with a faulty alternator would damage the new battery, and putting a new alternator in with the existing battery may not fix my issue so... just trying to get my ducks in order to get back on the road as quick as possible (borrowing the folks' car and you know they love that *rolls eyes*) also, does AutoZone sell the serpentine belt, and if the alternator they have does not have a pulley on it (ive read this on other threads), is this ok? thanks!
  2. what a lovely day I had.. 2 final exams today (which were VERY hard) and on the way to class, my battery light starts flashing and shortly after, the ABS light goes on... lovely.......... MY'00 2.7L 43k miles (no issues prior to today) what is my course of action here... my dad and I were able to jump start it but it would not hold a charge very long and would die shortly after. i had no symptoms prior to today (it really was OUT OF THE BLUE, but it was our first really cold weather here in quite some time Texas) although i am dreading what i think it might be, ill go ahead and ask.. if it IS the alternator, can I buy one at autozone (part # for tiptronic) and can i buy the serpentine belt there as well? how hard of a DIY is this to do (one day? few hours?) I believe the battery is fine, but it won't hold a charge while the car is running... only when it is connected to a jumpered vehicle will it maintain the charge. thanks gentlemen... my poor car is locked and sitting in a campus parking lot for the night.. i am very nervous.. AND i have an accounting final tomorrow too! bahhh thanks
  3. MY - model year. sorry im no help on the first question -Steve
  4. replaced em both today! was a breeze! thanks so much!
  5. ahh ok, where are these tabs? i do have my owner's manual so i'll check it out. might even answer the above question! thanks so much! so 7506 is the correct bulb for that?
  6. Hey gentlemen, it was brought to my attention that my driver's side brake light is out (all other bulbs work) (MY00) i pulled back the carpet in front of it, but wasn't sure how to continue. looks like there's a fuse panel in the way. manual won't be here till Christmas so I'm asking for help on how to change the brake light bulb. any pictures? i dont see any screws or anything to undo. thanks in advance, steve
  7. i'd be curious to see those on a black box zman, link to them?
  8. yea maybe squirrelly was too strong as well.. it was very windy today and i could feel it fighting me spoiler works, all panels in place, alignment and tires all check i guess at a certain wind speed, there isn't much you can do?
  9. newer member here, wanted to ask an aero question. when im overtaking a car on the highway in the 85-90mph zone, the car feels, i hate to use the word "unstable", but it seems "squirrely" Its a 2000 Boxster 2.7L with no body kit mods or anything like that, and it has the stock retractable spoiler. I have 17" rims (8" wide i believe) and just recently added front and rear strut tower braces. is there anything i can do to improve the stability at higher speeds? for example, it was pretty windy here in the great city of San Antonio, Texas!!! and i hit the 85mph mark on the highway. right away, i could feel the wind moving my car slightly in the lane... i want to be more confident doing 85mph, and would think the boxster would be very stable and be able to maintain a fairly straight line in windy high-speed conditions. thoughts?
