  1. Everything is back together and functional at this point. Here is what I ran into. I did the install in a 2005 with Navi and "ASK" amp in the front trunk 1) The cable that came with the kit is too short to route through the firewall and to the amp. I believe it is designed to plug into the back of the radio. So, I wasted additional time splicing additional length on... 2) Routing through the firewall was not a trivial task. I had to remove the battery to access the 2.5 inch round grommet behind the battery. I was concerned about the radio locking as I dont have a code. So, I plugged a portable jumpstart unit into the cig lighter...this seemed to work. The rubber grommet are glued on the back side and punch out pretty easily. 3) Once you get to the amp, you need to splice INLINE into the blue/blue (positive right rear spk) and the corresponding blue/brown(negative right rear). Do the same with the white/white (positive left rear) and corresponding white/brown (negative left rear). This is fun as the wires are twisted and there is little to no slack. I actually cut the wires, untwisted them and spliced everything together using a short piece...Again, you need to splice inline. Again, these wires are on the amp... 4) All in all, it took me several additional hours because the kit did not have the appropriate length and the directions were not for a Navi with amp. Of course the fader option doesnt appear...i believe I need the dealer to activate this using their special super duper device....
  2. Firewall is the physical area of the vehicle that seperates the engine compartment and the cabin (person compartment) in a traditional vehicle. In a boxster, the firewall is the physical seperation between the front trunk and the cabin... Basically he is asking if you were able to get the wiring from the front trunk into the passenger cabin (under dash, etc)...
  3. I didnt need to dremel anything in my 2005. The grills popped in. They are tight by design and you need to ensure you have one side set before putting the other side in...
  4. Jeff, This helps tremendously. I basically have my car ripped apart and have not got back to it yet. I will be installing into the amplifier instead of the radio. Hopefully, I can augment your instructions when I am done. Thanks for demystifying the wiring colors as it was completely confusing to me as well... thanks again!!
  5. Hi, Did you ever get the pin out info for this amp? If so, would you be so kind as to pass it along? Thanks, cseoni
  6. The amp is in the front trunk located behind the compartment containing the compressor and tire change kit. Remove that panel and you will see the amp attached ...this is for a 2005 and (i assume) above...PM if you have additional questions...you may not have an amp unless you chose the i490 option. I dont believe they are standard. If there is no amp, you can connect the speakers directly to the back of the stereo...it should be described in the instructions that came with the kit.
  7. What year boxster and what type of head unit? I have the speakers as well with Nav and plan to wire them directly to the amp...
  8. I spent 2 hours tearing up the car and looking for this staged harness...no luck. Surprised that nobody has no advise?! :P
  9. It appears that the 2005 amp located in the front trunk has a different wiring config than previous years. The amp (if it is in fact the amp) is located in the front trunk behind the panel holding the air compressor (no spare tire). This amp has a large black plug. I believe that the rear speaker wiring is preinstalled regardless if you have rear speakers. The question is: where do these speaker wires terminate on the other end in models with no rear speaker option. I would assume somewhere near the rear storage compartment. I am installing rear speakers and would love to save myself sometime running cables all the way to the front, if in fact they are pre-run. RIGHT REAR SPEAKERS + A6 blue/ blue - A16 blue/ brown LEFT REAR SPEAKERS + A7 white/ white - A17 white/ brown
  10. Did you ever find out any info about "our" amp? Is it the amp? thx I should know something tomorrow evening. The person I bought my speakers from is going to the dealer to demystify the amp and wiring harness. I will let you know what I find out...
  11. I dont believe so. They replace the outside storage bins. I believe (will know soon) that the center storage area remains intact...
  12. Great - I appreciate the help!! WP0CA29885U710102
  13. I just got one from Euro MotorSpeed...I will install in the next week and post pictures...having some issues with their instructions as they dont cover a Nav system (removal) (their instructions are very detailed and good though). I am also trying to verify if I have the amp on my 2005. There is some control module that looks like an amp in the front trunk, however, I am not sure that it is the amp based on looks, etc.
  14. Hi, I am looking for a quick way to get a list of options on my car without going to the dealer. Does anyone have access to some resource if I provide my vin :-)? Thank you!
  15. Bought the same speakers from the same company. I have an 2005 and was questioning the amp location as well. I have the same module you described, however, I am not sure if that is the amp or some other control module. Basically, I have the same question you do :-).
  16. Thank you!!! Looks great and exactly what i needed.
  17. I am installing the rear speaker kit in my 2005 boxster. I dont believe I have the amp (M490)...at least its not easily visible in the front battery compartment. Does anyone know how to remove the Nav system before I start removing side panels, etc. Any help would be appreciated...I will post install pics of the rear speakers once completed... Also, if you know of any other location of the factory amp, please let me know :-). Thanks, CS
