  1. I'm in the market to purchase a home here in southern california...San Diego to be exact. So I'm going to sell off the toys and the boxster is the first to go. So whats it worth... here is specs

1999 Porsche Boxster Tiptronic Silver w/ Red Leather

    45k miles

New Tires less than 500 miles (BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2)

New brakes less than 300 miles (Mentex w/ wear sensors & Brembo, drilled and slotted Rotors)

    Brake system flush (synthetic DOT4)

Fresh oil, oil filter, air filter and Cabin air filter

    New rear window

I have a 1999 Porsche Boxster 2.5L H6 DOHC 24V, Tiptronic (auto transmission) that is my wife’s car. Upgraded onboard computer. 18” rim and tires. This car is always garaged and only driven on sunny weekend days. Non-smokers. I put new tires, brake pads and new rotors with in the last 1000 miles. After the brakes and tires I had the car aligned at Dieters here in San Diego. The interior is perfect with no flaws or signs of wear. The exterior is in very good condition with a few tiny dings and paint flaws all of which are hardly noticeable. This car is ready for summer fun. Needs nothing accept a new owner? My wife and I are buying a home and only need one car.

  2. Mine allready came with the lower left and right hand stalk. My original question was do most or all Boxsters come with an on-board computer. I have seen a few boxsters that did NOT have the lower left hand stalk. The one that controles the on-board computer. I was wondering if mine was a special order item from the dealer or some sort of upgrade.

  3. I have a 99 2.5 and I think I have an on board computer....we here's the deal. I bought my Boxster used a few years back. The company I bought the car from new nothing about the car. But the car was in great shape with no problems and really low miles at a great price. That was two years ago and I've had no big problems. Now my question is do I have some sort of on board computer. I know all cars have an on board computer but I have seen a tone of boxsters with only 3 hand operated signal type switches right behind the steering wheel and mine has 4. So 2 for the right hand and 2 for the left. I usually only see one for the left side. The switch controls the out side temp, MPG, MPH....not sure what it does. The obvious is that I don't have a owners manual. But any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Aaron

  4. It has been said Zimmermann makes the rotors used by Porsche. With Zimmermann you can get rotors with the holes for the base Boxster.

I was thinking of this type of kit I have seen on ebay that also has the pads and sensors. The kit in the picture is for the front on the base Boxster. We reuse the sensors unless the warning light is on.

Here is some info on pads.

    Thanks TP..................

  5. The e-bay zimmermans were the ones I was looking at....thanks for the post and I'm sorry to here about the rear-ender!!

    Aaron

I just did exactly this: rotors, pads, and sensors from e-bay. The rotors are drilled/slotted Zimmermans and look great. The pads are Mintex and went in fine, except that the fronts had no holes for the sensors. After examining the old pads, I chose not to replace the sensors. My brake wear light came on, but the pads have between 15-20% of their material remaining. I could have easily put another 3,000 miles of street driving on them. I check my pads often enough that I feel secure not relying on this technology. I got a Motive power bleeder and did a full fluid flush while I was at it. This was the first time I had done my car's brakes and it took a little over 4 hours including a test drive and garage clean-up. All in, it cost less than $550. I don't know what the dealer would charge, but I'd bet it's waaaay over what I paid.

For what it's worth, the next day (yesterday) I got rear-ended while sitting at a stoplight totalling the bumper and right rear quarter, so I can't tell you how well they work once broken in, but the car was braking better then it had before. Sure hope I get her back soon [1999 986 2.5]

I have seen various kits on ebay over the years.

Make a link and I will take a look.

    here you go TP

  6. has anybody used or know anything about the brakes being sold on e-bay. I'm doing my homework befor I need them. I would like to replace everything at once....rotors, pads and sensors! The drilled Zimmerman look the part...what have guys heard!!

    Thanks Aaron

  7. Hello Renntech,

I just purchased a full set of BFGoodrich g-Force KDW-2 tires for my 99 boxster. They replace PS2. The tire have a great review and they feel much better that the PS2. My question is based on the alignment. I had it aligned at a local Porsche/BMW/Merc...shop. They preformed a 4 wheel alignment. The car still pulls to the right as I was notified of this before I picked up the car. The owner/manager stated that I would not get uneven tire ware that the reason the car was pulling to one side is that the "knuckle" might have been damaged and that they adjusted as much as they possibly could. Have any of you guys heard of this.. in all honesty it sound like this could happen as I have 18 inch rims and low profile tires which don't allow for any give in the tire department. What do you guys think!!!

    Thanks Aaron

  8. The latest fix really isn't all that complicated, though the latest technical info calls for a different fix for the pre 00 cars than the newer cars.  Both involve new belt buckles and new connectors and connector housings.  If you have a basic knowledge of crimping and soldering and can follow instructions you can do it yourself.  Pretty much the only tool out of the ordinary you will need is an E12 torx socket, which you use to remove the seat bolts.

    Sent you a PM.

    Hi PTEC,

I also belong to the legions of pre-00 Boxster owners with the airbag light problem. Local repair shop cleared it once but it reappeared after only 3 days. They are willing to fix it again, I just don't like the wait period to get into the shop. Appreciate if you could also send me the instructions you have.

The instructions to fix the seat belt buckles are in a TSB.

Contributing Members here can read ALL of the TSBs... hint hint ;) ;)

    Hello Loren,

I'm now a contributor of the site however all I can do is see the number no fixes or directions of any kind!!! Thanks Aaron

    Hello PTEC,

I have the same problem and I also would like the directions to fix this little problem.......thanks in advanced Aaron

  10. took my '98 boxster in for oil change and to turn off airbag warning light...i was hoping it was just an electrical fault from the battery being out over the winter, but it was the driver seat belt buckle...don't get me started on this given that there were at least 3 TSBs on this "faulty" component...dealer wants $400 plus to "fix" just the driver side...i can buy the updated wire harness and buckle for $100 so i figure i might as well DIY it...was hoping someone might have the TSB and/or instructions on the fix...i realize i'll have to have the dealer clear the light after do the job...thanks

Let me know whay you do as I have the same problem!!

    Aaron

  11. I have the airbag warning light on...  I have done a search and is there another way to solve this problem without going to the dealer. Is there some sort of DIY fix for this.  Thanks Aaron

    Aaron,

I own a 2000 Boxter S and had the same problem.

I had to take my car back to the dealer 4 times wherin the mechanic changed the switch in the seat belt connector.

The first 3 visits and switch exchanges did not solve the problem.

On the 4th visit, the mechanic called Porsche Corp. and was told that there has been a problem with the switches and ordered a recall and a TSB.

The final solution was a switch with GOLD PLATED connectors. It was ordered and subsequently, installed in my Boxter.

The fix was right on! I have had no problems with the airbag light since then.

    Sincerely,

    FlightleaderK4.

Look like a trip to the dealer for some GOLD...Bling Bling in the seat belts...thanks for everones input!!

  12. check your battery...there is a drain tube up front.

    hope this helps

    Aaron

I have noticed a clear liquid that seems to stay/stained on the driveway.  It is a clear liquid coming from the front of the car.  Is this A/C related?  Checked all the fluid levels and everything seems ok.  Should I be concerned about this?

The reason I say check your battery is on the passenger side of the battery there is a drain tube from your battery that drains pretty much straight down. If a problem exist with your battery this could be the reason that you have a "stained" driveway as water from the AC unit would not stain your driveway. Your gas tank is also located up front same with your steering box that has power steering fluid run to it. There are lots of little things to check out. Look for areas of moisture or dampness up front. Good luck in locating it.....let us know what you kind out.

  13. I also have a 99 and I was having the same problem only I was getting P1123 and P1125. I cleaned the MAF with electronics parts cleaner from radio shack and I changed out the stock gas cap with the recall gas cap. A couple of hundred miles with no light. First check to see if you have the original gas cap and if you do take the car to your nearest dealer to have them replace it. If you have already replaced the gas cap clean your MAF. The way I cleaned mine was obviously take it out and spray the cleaner on generously let it dry repeat the process a few times. I also used a can of compressed air to speed up the drying time. I'm not sure what was the cause of my CEL because I replaced the gas cap and cleaned the MAF all in the same weekend. A day after everything was done the light went off by itself. hope this helps good luck Aaron

  14. hello all,

I have a 99 boxster 2.5 that had the exact same codes. There was a gas cap recall for the 99's not sure if yous falls in this category but solved the problem for me also make sure you have a good seal at the dip stick and oil cap. I also cleaned the MAF with radio shack electronics parts cleaner as this seems to be a common problem. I have put about 200+ miles with no CEL. Good Luck!!

    Aaron
