  1. Having read all the threads regarding the conversion of a footwell light switch to other uses, I assumed there would be such a switch in my 2000 Cab when I picked it up. In fact, the Owners Manual shows the switch (left side of the console) and details the automatic and manual operation of the footwell lights. My problem is that I have no such switch, and no lights that illuminate my footwells, automatically or otherwise. On the right console are door locks, Cab top, and rear defroster. All left console switches are blanks. My questions for those in the know: 1. is the footwell light switch an option, or is mine just missing? 2. are the lights on my lower door panels, near the rear edge, the footwell lights, or should there be lights within the actual footwells? I can find none when crawling under the dash. Thanks for any light (footwell or otherwise) anyone can shed. Kim
  2. Lessons learned today with the installation of the Porsche child seat air bag deactivation device: 1. there is no reason to remove the pax seat, which is the first step in the TSB. Just run it all the way back. 2. After you install the underseat bar, if you choose to make the electrical connection while you're under there, be aware that your airbag warning light will then remain on until programming is complete, even if the male portion of the connection (from the child seat) is not inserted in the device buckle. 3. Even though the TSB states that the seat rail covers cannot be reinstalled with this device in place, it can be done easily with a little trimming of the plastic covers to fit around the device's bar. This looks neater than the bare rails. Went to my independent shop for programming, since he was willing to walk out to the parking lot and do it right away .... as opposed to an appointment with the dealer. Learned the last lesson here. 4. The TSB says that following programming, and with the child seat installed, the airbag light will flash for 10 seconds to indicate that the airbag is deactivated successfully. My tech and I watched it flash on and on, well past the 10 seconds. So, we used the tester to undo the programming, then start over. Same result. Finally, I vaguely recalled reading somewhere that, in some cars, the flashing may be for 60 seconds, vice 10. We turned the key once more and waited. Sure enough, light out at the minute mark. Once home, I discovered it was in my Owners' Manual that the 60 second figure is found.
  3. My used 2000 Cab came with a hard top tool, the locking lug nut socket, and jack/handle. Should there be a tool kit? If so, what should it contain, and is there a part number for the kit? Thanks, Kim
  4. Scouser, If it worked as you describe, then I agree it would not be worth the bother. My experience with after market systems has allowed me, in the past, to use a standard keychain remote (momentary push) to close BMW windows & sun roof, via the use of a timed relay module triggered by the remote. I had hoped someone might have attempted the same thing, using the timed signal from the module to raise/lower the top ... after a single momentary push on the keychain remote. My limited experience would suggest this might could happen if the module closed the same connection that the Porsche top switch does, simply jumping around the switch. Kim
  5. I have a new (to me) 2000 C2 cab. I have ordered the Smart Top module to enable top operations while moving, but would very much like to be able to operate the top (and windows) remotely. My key has single button and operates only the security and door locks. In the past, I have made extensive use of 3rd party remote door lock systems (key fob actuator) to operate door locks, windows, sun roofs, lights, etc. on Porsches and bimmers. Does anyone have any experience using a unit like this to operate older 996 windows and cab tops? Kim
