  1. Yes...it seemed to be running and starting well...
  2. Hey all. Just wanted to get some feed back on the following issue. My car went in for a major service at my local OPC and the very next morning started normally but after driving the car 30 miles and then leaviing for a few hours, did not start on first attempt. This then went on every day. I took it back to my OPC and they stated all was fine but the problem did not disappear. This has gone on for weeks but recently the engine struggled to fire on all attempts and over the last couple of days I have heard a distinct rattle and oily smoke on ignition. It was at this point I told Porsche it needed to come in for a more thorough check. It was at this point my OPC said it sounded like the camshaft problem described and that several cars had been fixed with the same issue. Porsche have come back to me and confirmed the following: We have carried out a diagnosis on your vehicle in regard to the excessive cranking required to start it and have concluded that the camshaft rotor vanes are out of alignment. To rectify this will involve removing the engine and reinstalling it (10011900 - 8.0), hall senders removed and reinstalled (28392050 - 0.5), cam covers removed and reinstalled (15822050 - 3.2), adjusting the camshaft rotor vanes (15050699 - 1.0) and then carrying out a final system test via the diagnostic computer (03350053 - 0.2). Total labour = 12.9 hours x £115 per hour + VAT = £1706.03 Parts = £117.48 + VAT = £135.10 Total cost of repair = £1841.13 Have chatted with a few more knowledgeable folks and this issue seems very unlikely....comments welocme.
  3. Hi all, I know at the top end there is the BOSE sound system available. What are the other options and relevant sound quality and retrofit upgrades? Chris
  4. Well, took the car into Porsche and they took it away for an inspection. When the car was returned I was told that someone had been lazy following the recent service and not clean off old oil after it had been changed! I suspect the sump plug was not put in securely....anyway all well now...!
  5. Couldn't get under the car but did leave white sheet underneath over night. There is definately oil leaking and it seems to be coming from sump plug. Spoke to my dealership today and they are taking the car in later today. My car is just out of warranty but because I am about to extend it Porsche have confirmed they would fix any issues inc engine failures without charge. I'll come back with feedback later...
  6. Thanks for info. I'll get underneath and see if I can wipe it clean first and see if it pools again.
  7. Hey all... Recently purchased a used 987 3.2 S. Love it. It was due for a service which has now been carried out and had a full check over - work carried out by Porsche Dealership. Anyway, driving to work this morning I heard a loud thud...got to work and checked things over quickly as I thought I must have pulled up a stone on the road. Got home tonight pulled out torch for a better look and discovered an oil patch of fresh oil at almost the mid point of the car underneath. It looks like its gathered around the sump plug (there looks to be a screw in plug). I'm wondering whether on oil change residue was left over although I have completed a good 200 miles since the service and with road conditions being wet would have expected that to have been washed away. I hope I'm not being paranoid especially since buying the car I've heard horror stories about the RMS and IMS! Advice appreciated....don't really want to turn up at the dealership unless there may be an issue. Chris
