  1. Hi,Well I have got 06  987 now at 51000km with just normal servicing every two years at Porsche with new front rotors and pads all round, and one new set of tyres, that is all so far. In fact my last car was a 01 986 and that was just the same, dam good cars. You need to drive them every day, all year like I do.

    Good luck.

  2. I recently purchased a Porsche 911 Carera 4 996 2001 from your country (US).

A super car, if I say so myself (had never ridden a 911).

Germany, the country of speeding UNLIMITEDLY is situated next too our country and

off course I tried the maximun speed of my car....

The car drives smoothely but does not seem to have the maximum power; it would not

    go faster than 259 kmrs/hr or 161 mls/hr (downhill...)

The brochures all say that 280 kmrs/hr or 174 mls/hr should be a possibility....

Does someone know if there are speedrestrictions issued/built in in America's Porsches???

The Porsche specialist that checked my car said that there is nothing wrong with the engine

and combustion; so why does it not reach its maximun speed???

    Hi,

I too live next to Germany and drive on there Autobahns, at least once a month at high speed.

Your 911 spent the last nine years going slow most of the time in the USA, I would change the spark plugs, plus are your wheels standed size or bigger? if bigger that would slow you down a lot. And turn off the AC on a high speed test.

    Good Luck with it.

  3. The year of 2010 is coming up, I wish everyone doing well. Merry Christmas and happy New year to all of you.

I am looking for a Porsche 2010 calendar or any calendar that has Porsche cars. Do you know where or which web site I can buy one?

I live in SoCal and like to buy it from a store.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Merry Xmas and happy new year to you.

I got one in the post today as a Xmas present from my Porsche dealer that I got my car from, and they service it every two years as well. Just put it up looks nice. Email your dealer and ask them. Last year got a bottle of honey vodka from them.

  4. Sorry I've no tips for you but would like to give a welcome.

Thanks for the welcome! I see you are from Canada and probably have the same winter storage problems that I will have being in the snowbelt of northern Ohio. I will keep it garaged and under cover w/ trickle charger, my question is about the oil changes. I have read other posts that you should store with fresh oil. Since the service intervals on the 987's is only 1 oil change every 2 years, would it still be recommended to change the oil before winter storage?

Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

    thanks!

    Dan

    Hello,

Why not get a set of good winter tires like Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 and keep going all year round.

I do here in Poland, and it gets down to -30c.

    good luck.

  5. I just bought a 2005 Boxster S as a replacement for my totaled 986 (flash flood). On my 2003, the options sticker was on the inside of the front hood. There is no sticker like that on my 2005. I've looked everywhere and can't find it. There is also nothing in my service manual. I've search the forum and can't find anything either.

Any ideas where they hid it on an '05? Thanks.

    Hi,

There is not one under the front hood on a 987, it is in the service manual which comes with the car from new.

  6. I realize there are many posts on coolant leaks, which I have read in an effort to find a solution to my problem. That said, I've not seemed to find a similar problem to the one I seem to be having. I need some ideas and help before I have my porsche carted off to the dealer...which I'd like to avoid.

I have a 1998 Boxster and returned home after a week's vacation. Took the car out and noticed the red oil light came on when I slowed at a traffic light. Stopped at a gas station and checked the oil (always keep a quart of Mobil 1 in the trunk). That said, I added the quart as it seemed to be down a bit. I also noticed what appeared to be condensation on the inside of the trunk lid above the radiator/oil caps. There also seemed to be a slight bit of radiator fluid that seeped from the cap. Cleaned the very small about of fluid and condensation and decided to run the car very cautiously and monitor the problem.

Took the car out two days ago in about 90 degree heat with the A/C running. Seemed to run fine, temp gauge was about 210F and toward the tail end of the 20 minute ride I pulled up to the driveway to let my father-in-law out...backed up so he could pull his car from the driveway and I could put the Porsche away. Noticed a stream of radiator fluid in the street. Pulled the car in the garage and all hell broke loose....fluid started gushing from the passenger side in front of the tire/wheel well area.

Ordered the Bentley Manual, which arrived today and began to review the coolant section. I've gone through the following:

    1. Jacked the car up, checked for coolant drips underneath, but the only spot seemed to be what appears to be the overflow hose (a small tube in the vacinity of the rear passenger tire).

    2. No sign of any broken hoses underneath. All hoses appeared dry and intact.

    3. Checked trunk area to determine if the resevoir had cracked...completely dry.

    4. Removed cover to engine compartment to inspect hoses and found no sign of fluid spray, hose breaks, etc. All looked good.

    5. Removed panel behind driver/passenger seat to inspect hoses and water pump....no sign of a break, leak, etc. Every thing was "bone dry".

    6. Inspected water pump from underneath and found leaks.

    7. Refilled radiator with water and found no leaks.

    8. Also pressurized the radiator by opening and closing the pressure valve.

    8. Ran the car for about 30 minutes at 2500 - 4000 rpm with A/C on and off, with heater on and off....no leaks.

    9. The A/C performed normal and cold, the heater performed normal and hot. Temp of engine during this was about 210F.

Does anyone have an idea of what could have casued the problem? I would be very grateful for suggestions or ideas.

The only thing I haven't done was test the vacuum on the radiator cap as I do not have the tool and a replacement cap is probably cheaper. I have changed the air filter and cleaned leaves and debris from the front radiator's. At this point I am puzzled and a little afraid to drive it to the dealer 30 miles away if I have to.

    Hi,

No problem, that is normal, it comes from your A/C. it is in the handbook.

  7. It's really best to drive as many examples of the 987 as you can to get the measure of the vehicle. Opinions on the internet vary so much and what I consider a harsh/rough ride might be just right for yourself. Best of luck in your search.

    Hi,

I did the same two years ago. The 987 is a much better car all round. If the roads are that bad stick with 17" wheels as I have because sum of the roads in Poland are crap. PASM makes a big change to how hard the ride is. There is not much difference in the power from 220 to 245 because it weighs more.

I have all the upgraded audio, but I mostly drive with it off as the sound of the 987 is so much louder and nicer than a 986.

    Good luck.

  8. I'm just wondering whether the mass production of so many 996's has also had a strange knock on effect on the sale of private plates. There are so many 996's around now that they are so common place and I wondered if this means no-one (in the UK) is interested in spending cash on a dateless plate?

I sold my 996 over a year ago and to date haven't been able to sell my 996 plate. I've had it on Pistonheads, EBay, 911 and Posrceh World Magazine, a couple of commercial web sites, and no interest at all?

What does everyone think - it's HSJ 996 by the way on retention and priced at a very reasonable figure (IMHO).

    Hi

That is one of the bad things about the UK.

The year plates, after six months you have an old car to drive.

Here in Poland my car is now three years old but looks brand new,

    to all the other drivers.

Spring is almost here....Put some new 19" on the BOX, and washed her up....its still a bit chilly, but warmer days are near! :D

Wheels look Great! could you tell us what the width is on those 19's and did you need spacers? How does the ride quality feel?

Great choice, they really look great.

    Bill

Not yet here in Poland, as it was -4c last night. +4c now at 1340.

I will keep the hardtop on for a bit longer, and the winter tyres.

Looking forwood to +35c in the summer.
